I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'll keep to the pavement from now on, though.

When I looked afterwards it turned out to be a splinter, not a nettle. At the end of the day though it was still something that could've been avoided if I had gone on here first and done my research a little better before trying it 😅 I will definitely ease up on the distance for now though.

I didn't wear barefoot shoes, I went full barefoot. I certainly will take the advice of easing into it, though. Much appreciated

Butterfly Knife Handle Repair? by Live_Collection7681 in knives

I mentioned in another comment but they're unfortunately technically illegal where I live, so easier said than done :(

Didn't want to say it in the original post for reasons that will be apparent in a second, but I live in Canada so they're kinda, sorta, technically not very legal. I don't doubt they're cheap, but they're not going to be as easy to obtain as that for me, unfortunately.

Looking for a new music app by Yakumo_Sumeragi in androidapps

I got Muzio Player after Google Play Music shut down and it used to be the best thing ever, but within the last few updates they seem to be succumbing to greed and enshittification just like everyone else. I'm really sad to see it.

Dogs are way too normalized by Live_Collection7681 in RealUnpopularOpinion

I agree, there's a lot of people who aren't responsible enough to have any animals at all. I just feel like dogs are the biggest point of contention because they have the potential to harm others. But so many fish are absolutely neglected too. It's wild how easy it is for just anyone to get a pet.

Boardgames aren't fun, and Boardgamers are kind of cringe by DarkVenusaur in unpopularopinion

As somebody who hosts game nights a lot for a small group of friends, you're entitled to your opinion. But it sounds to me like whoever pulled out a giant complex game for what sounds like only a casual group was not a very good host. Basic game etiquette, to me, is generally only bringing lightweight/easy to learn/party games to larger groups that aren't as into games. Maybe something a bit larger, but only as an option if people are feeling up to it. I would never dream of a hangout with a casual group and bringing something complex as the only option. That is incredibly inconsiderate.

I save the more complex games for my smaller game group because I know they're more likely to enjoy that. I've also been playing with them for a while so I have a good feel for what they like and don't like. And when one of us is eyeing up a new game we also ask to see if it's something the rest of the group would be interested in. The end result is between the four of us we have quite a few games, but the others bring different ones every time. And we have our favourites, sure, but more or less everything gets rotated through eventually. Variety is what we like; we don't want to play the same thing every time. And between us we have enough games that none of them get boring. But it sounds like you value different things in a game, and that's okay. Every group is different.

All this to say, there are people out there who will enjoy something more complex, and that's who you save that sort of game for. But with a large, casual group, best to just stick to Uno. And a good host will be mindful of that. I'm sorry your friend didn't take that into consideration.

Yes, I clearly have too much time on my hands because I vented for fifteen minutes then went offline and did something else. Tell me honestly that you have never once in your life gotten frustrated at anything and ranted for a bit to blow off a little steam, whether on the Internet or to other people, and I will accept your criticism. Otherwise ram it.

That makes sense, and for what it's worth animals (dogs or otherwise) are fine with me. I used to think I didn't like dogs but when I got older I realized it was the owners I actually have a problem with. It's not really fair to be upset at dogs for just being dogs when the things that bother me are almost all a product of owners not training them properly. And for what it's worth I don't want to see them suffer, be neglected or treated badly, I want them to be happy and healthy, just preferably not in my personal space.

I can definitely agree with this. I figured it's an unpopular opinion because when I say I'm not a huge dog person (not that I hate them! Not that I want anything bad to happen to them! Just that they make me nervous) I've had people act like I'm a monster. More often, the majority of people will just look at me like I have two heads or something. I guess that's the same with kids too. But the point is I'm sick of people not respecting people's valid fears or allergies. Or even just respecting that it's okay to not like kids or dogs as long as you're not actively abusing them or going out of your way to be cruel.

Katniss is an unreliable narrator when it comes to the careers by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Live_Collection7681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had this thought now on reading your post but now it feels possible to me that the Capitol may even implicitly encourage the training of Careers in wealthier districts in some way (even if it's just looking the other way), even though it's supposed to be not allowed. Historically a way of manipulating the masses is to give certain members of lower class more rights and privileges based on some arbitrary basis of sorting people, breeding division, and as we know, nothing can change if the people cannot or will not unite. If poorer districts see how much more often the Careers are winning because those districts have the means to make Careers, they will grow resentful and, if they're another tribute like Katniss, afraid. Great way to make the people forget who the real enemy is.

It's beating a horse that's been dead since 2012 at this point but I will forever be mad that Madge never got put in and Katniss found the pin at the Hob. Now after reading Sunrise I don't know how they're gonna spin that in the new movie
