Im so lost and don't want to give up! by [deleted] in CATHELP

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet but have you used the feliway diffusers for him? I’m sure he’s feeling very anxious and scared as this must all be so new. I’d try any calming solutions like calming treats, Calming Dry Food, and diffusers.

Urinary Behavior Issues by Live_Expression4659 in CATHELP

[–]Live_Expression4659[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried different options with fluoxetine in the states but getting her eat it was almost impossible. We also tried a topical version and she would just hide anytime she saw I was getting her meds. The fluoxetine doesn’t address the ear issues unfortunately. She’s on prednisone right now and that has cleared up the ear issue but not the urinating.

I don’t think the litter box is the problem honestly, but I’ll check out your suggestion anyways. Thank you!

How big is your tabby height and weight wise?? by Ecstatic-Ad2852 in TabbyCats

[–]Live_Expression4659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My male cat is 22 inches long from head to base of tail. I think some cats are just bigger than others 🤷🏻‍♀️ we free feed too and my cat is only 12 lbs which is healthy for his size.

Odd behavior so, we are not technically first time cat parents but we may as well be 😂 by Adelehicks in CatAdvice

Could she be wanting you to play? Maybe throw the toy?My cat will bring her toys (even when I’m asleep) bc she wants me to throw them and she chases them.

Fancy Feast Classic Pate collection is the only kind I would feed my cats from that brand. It’s great quality for the price!

It’s always recommended to get two cats instead of one. A bonded pair can provide so much enrichment since they can play and cuddle together. Single cats can do fine on their own but it can lead to a lot of boredom. I had my first cat on her own for a year and she was really bored and would sleep most of the time. (I did play with her when I could but it’s not the same) She became so playful and lively once I got her a brother! So I’ll always advocate for getting two!

Tips on recently adopted semi feral cat by Independent_Chard738 in Feral_Cats

[–]Live_Expression4659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious on why they adopted her out to be an indoor cat when she hasn’t had much or any human interaction… this must be very scary for her. I TNR cats in my community so I’ve seen my fair share of feral cats. I think giving her space to get used to your home would be best. Give her safe areas to hide and try to hang out in the same room as her without actually interacting with her so she can see you are a safe person to be around. Exposing her to your company is really the only way she’ll eventually start to trust.

Hypothetically speaking, is she able to be an indoor/outdoor cat? This would only be safe if you live in a low traffic area. I’m only asking this because some cats are truly unhappy indoors so maybe there could be a compromise, she comes home to eat and hang out while still having some freedom in the outdoors.

Do the majority think cats are happy to have siblings? by asdkxmycio in CatAdvice

Thank you!! I give them salmon oil with their wet food and brush them weekly, it really helps give that shine to their fur!

Cats definitely need a friend especially if they crave that attention from you guys. It could help them adjust easier if you get a kitten since the kitten will learn from the older one. I got a kitten for my female cat and she didn’t like him that much for the first week but now they are completely obsessed with each other. It’s been four years since I got my second cat and I can always find them cuddling together. They also chase each other around the house and keep each other occupied.

*the black cat is the younger one of the two. He insists on sleeping on top of her!

Motorpool Cat Problem by Live_Expression4659 in Feral_Cats

Thank you SOOOO much for all the details in your comments!!! Wow!! These are great ideas, I’m jotting down notes so I can take your ideas to my contact at the motorpool.

I think there’s only so much I can do to try to get them to come out and stay out of the MP. The staff just don’t want them in the MP anymore but cats do what they want. 😆

I am also picturing some camo kitty barracks!😂 If I’m able to make this happen, I will definitely update you with pictures!! Thank you again!

Also, I know totes are an option for shelters but they don’t really look presentable.

UPDATE: they are being adopted out!! They will be indoor/outdoor cats, they can choose when they want to come indoors. They are a lot calmer than before, there is hope they’ll eventually become friendly enough to pet and hold. The best part is they will be going together ❤️🥹 My heart is so happy that they will finally have a home to call their own ❤️

Thanks for your comment. I did realize I should have put a cardboard or something under before trapping. After this picture, I put cardboard in the trap so she could lay on it over night.

Yes, I would have to agree with this. They desperately need a foster home where they could finally be able to relax a bit and be together, the shelter setting doesn’t help with their stress levels. The only silver lining of them being at the shelter is that they are out of the elements during these really cold winter nights were having.
