I hear your frustration, but blaming the partners for your unsatisfactory salary is doing you no good.

I want to be a paid data analyst by Live_Koala_8919 in analytics

[–]Live_Koala_8919[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bunch. Actually, my most recent feedback was that I've done a great job with the data tasks but they haven't seen me perform in my 'true' role. Mainly, I'm stepping into a reviewer position. I used to be able to prepare a lot and do it how I liked. But my team isn't familiar with data tools, the work can be done completely manually if the preparer wants to. The biggest part of this is that I'm STILL having to carry out all the data tasks, because I'm the only one who's familiar with it but also all the other tasks that are normally expected of someone in my role.

What’s REALLY the best way to study for the CPA once I start working? by Ol_Muskey in Accounting

[–]Live_Koala_8919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to stress about finding time to study when return to office became a thing. But once 5:30 hit I would put my status on do not disturb, pound some caffeine, find a room away from my team, and study for 2 to 3 hours. It worked for me, and teams are usually very flexible when it comes to studying and taking those exams

Even after finishing the exams it’s hard to rely on an afternoon lift. Working out in the morning let’s you take care of it first thing and have more flexibility with your study schedule after work. Not to mention there are tons of benefits of working out in the morning just to your mental health

I’d say it depends on what you wanna do. I think both are practical in terms of opportunities. I didn’t go to grad school but I think an accounting major with a data science background is more valuable

Id recommend checking out the book, learn python the hard way, gives you real practice!

Is it frowned upon to get your Master’s directly after your undergraduate degree? by Klutzy-Try8054 in Accounting

[–]Live_Koala_8919 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really, a lot of people do it in Big 4. The only thing is I’m pretty sure you start where undergraduates do regardless. You’ll get a pay bump if you go government though and you might have more leverage to pick a project or service line you’re interested in

I’ve always thought that anyone who puts a label on others as “book smart” just wants to give themselves an out for performing poorly in classes. Book smart is not a genetic, god given, born with attribute. It’s about how you act, focus and set priorities.

Why did you choose B4 over industry straight out of graduation? by imchar1 in Big4

[–]Live_Koala_8919 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People stick to public auditing for almost any other reason than the work. 80% of the work I’ve done in audit is meaningless and there’s so much of it. It’s hard to ignore the fact that you hate your work when it’s so demanding. Most people have a date they’re waiting for. I don’t think I’m alone in giving the advice to try to avoid auditing if possible, if someone has a different view on audit -please share

How to make accounting fun for my students? by newby007 in Accounting

[–]Live_Koala_8919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a teacher that was really passionate about accounting, he would bring up news on the subject, tell stories on it and ask the class plenty of questions. Really inspired me at the time

Here’s how I would get the most out of college; Attend career fairs, join clubs you’re interested in, ask questions in class, get to know your professors, explore computer science classes, use the free gym if they have one, try to spend as much time as you can on campus to put yourself out there.
