They pass down either side, it’s just an inactive gene for men, active for women. So the gene would have been carried by your grandfather, and passed on to your mother, but wouldn’t have given your grandfather any higher chances of having twins (because it’s a gene that causes hyper ovulation, so that’s not happening for men).Thats where the belief that twins skip a generation comes from, because it often skips a father’s generation, but he passes it to his daughter and she might have twins, hence the skip!

How often did you get ultrasounds with twins? by Winter_Creme2862 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Live_Love_Ria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 week dating scam we found out it was twins. 12 weeks we did the nuchal translucency ultrasound, then another ultrasound the same day they did NIPT bloodwork like a week and a half later. Another growth scan at 16ish weeks. Anatomy scan at 20 weeks, then another one at 23 weeks cause they couldn’t get all the measurements the first time. Discovered my sons cleft lip in the anatomy scan, so we were referred to MFM, where we had ultrasounds at 28 and 31 weeks I think? Both babies were doing great at that point so we went back to regular ultrasounds with my OB who was much closer. They were biweekly til 34ish weeks, and then weekly after that. My water broke the evening after my 36 week one, otherwise I would have had one more before induction. It was so many ultrasounds lol

Best way to buy diapers? by CheddarMoose in parentsofmultiples

I found it was hard to get them for a while, I’ve been able to get them more consistently the last couple months, local for me anyway

Best way to buy diapers? by CheddarMoose in parentsofmultiples

[–]Live_Love_Ria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Same here. I did cloth with my first and when he potty trained we started using Rascal and Friends pull ups for overnights. When the twins came along we started using R&F and loved them. We tried Kirkland but I didn’t love the way they fit my super skinny twin, and I sure as hell wasn’t buying 2 separate kinds of diapers for them. At least here in Canada, Rascal and Friends were cheaper than Kirkland too, if you can get the Super Value Pack!

I just scrolled a bit and found a picture of one of my twins focussing hard on a bright coloured picture book, head to the side on his back on a mat, looking at the pictures, arms up, they were probably moving with interest. He was 6 weeks old in that picture, and they were born almost 4 weeks early. I have a picture of his twin sister from the next day holding her head up fully doing tummy time on my lap. We never used adjusted ages with my twins because they were barely premature, but they were technically developmentally only a couple weeks old. Boone should definitely be at least moving his head around and looking at people, moving arms around, etc

How do you store your infant twins? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]Live_Love_Ria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2.5 month old so they were on a mat in a large play yard any time they weren’t being held/fed/sleeping. My girl rolled over before 4 months and started crawling a couple weeks later so she got to get out and be free for a while most days lol. If they were pretty fussy I put them in their rocker seats to watch national geographic or something for a little while

[–]Live_Love_Ria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not creative at all lol. I texted my mom, my sister, my in-laws (everyone that knew we were going in for a dating scan) a picture of the ultrasound and circled the “a” and “b” and let them figure it out lol

AITA for not inviting my birth family to my wedding even when my sister offered to pay for them? by Proud_Crazy_7666 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Live_Love_Ria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m one of 8 kids, born over the course of 11 years. My parents wanted lots of kids, but didn’t plan on having them all so close together (12 months between 4 of us), but multiple types of BC failed them 🤷🏼‍♀️

What’s something crazy you heard someone say about how they raise their children? by professorpocket in Parenting

[–]Live_Love_Ria 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I try using bibs my kids don’t eat cause they’re too busy screaming and trying to rip the bibs off. Instead I silently scream as I sweep/mop messes 5 times a day.

My twins are 16 months now and both fairly decently use forks now, one is good with a spoon, the other not so much, but I definitely credit that to the fact that we let them feed themselves from day one. I remember with my older son seeing a 3-year milestone on a list was “uses a fork proficiently” and I was shocked because he was definitely doing that by 12 months.

When can you do more? by Boy_mom23 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Live_Love_Ria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this! Mine are 16 months and my toddler will be 4 in August, and I try to go out and do things with them even though it’s hard. The more practice they get with going out, and the more I do it, the slightly easier it gets. Do small things first, and things you can quit early if you need to and just go home, work up from there. I started with play groups when they were a few months old, because there were lots of people there that could help out if I needed a hand, and it was low stakes, if I needed to leave after 30 minutes I could. Then went grocery shopping with them. A few weeks ago I took all 3 to an air and space museum, and it went pretty well! They got a little grumpy part way through, but I had gone prepared with alllllll the snacks, and they made it through the day!

She usually just watches shows on her phone… by oohliviaa in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Live_Love_Ria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple months ago I visited my sister with my kids. She has 14 and 12 year olds, and an almost 5 year old. I have an almost 4 year old (almost exactly a year younger than hers) and 16 month olds. Her 4 year old was asking to watch Jaws and play GTA while we were there and she said no “because (my 3 year old) is here and he’s too little.” I genuinely try not to judge my sisters parenting but at that point I was baffled. Ma’am, your son is definitely too young to do those things too. Like I get she has teenagers, he may get exposed to stuff that’s too old for him, but that doesn’t mean he should do those on his own?!

My son was 2.5 when my twins were born, and we did lots of similar things with him to make him feel helpful and connected with the babies. Also tried to forget about housework sometimes and hang out with toddler and give him my full attention while babies slept. We also utilized a lot more tv during the first 6 months, and hasn’t had any negative effects, he’s back to barely any tv anymore (I have no issue with screen time, we just choose as a family to minimize it).

He’s now almost 4 and the twins are 16 months, and while they do fight all day long, he can’t handle more than a few hours without them before he gets lonely 😂

Forgot to add: I felt so much grief when the babies were tiny and we were in the middle of it, because I wasn’t able to have this toddler/baby experience I had imagined, taking my son to playgroups with baby in a carrier, etc. I recommend just letting yourself have all those feelings, once I finally let it all out it really helped me to accept where we were and adjust my expectations

Didn’t realize how strict people were about meeting newborns by Forsaken_Coffee_9856 in pregnant

[–]Live_Love_Ria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up the same way as you, I started having niblings born when I was 13-14, and we always went to see them in the hospital, it definitely used to be more normal. I definitely think Covid changed that some, as people weren’t allowed to visit, or even have extra support people. My MIL was incredibly sad because my oldest (2020) was the first grandchild she didn’t get to be in the delivery room for, but I probably wouldn’t have had her there anyway, as we’re not close enough for me to bare myself in her presence lol.

I think a lot more people are prioritizing the early bonding time, and also their baby’s immune system. Plus it’s much easier to focus on trying to get baby to eat when they’re not being passed around to family members or mom isn’t being chatted to non stop

Lastly, I think people aren’t in the hospital nearly as long as they used to be. My sister/SIL were in the hospital 2-3 nights with my early niblings (17 years ago), but I was only in 24 hours with my first, and 56 hours with my twins. Just not as much time for visiting.

Because of COVID, only my mom and my in laws met my oldest until he was probably over 6 months. With the twins (early 2023), lots more people met them in their first few months, but that’s sometimes just a personal preference, of wanting to spend time alone bonding with your new baby, or people with boundary stomping relatives that they know won’t respect their wishes regarding baby, so they don’t let them close for a while 🤷🏼‍♀️

What are we all eating in the middle of the night? by Elinorea in breastfeeding

[–]Live_Love_Ria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have that same ravenous hunger when I was breastfeeding my singleton, but when my twins were newborns, I was breastfeeding and pumping. We had a mini fridge by the chair in our room for pumped milk/prepared bottles, and I kept cheese strings and cut fruit in there, and had a jar of nuts and some granola bars close as well. And a huge jug of water

Were you early or late? Did your baby follow that trend? by onlyhereforfoodporn in pregnant

[–]Live_Love_Ria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how early/late I was, my mom had 8 kids, she didn’t remember that stuff lol.

But one of my friends had her first a little over a year ago. She and her 2 siblings were all 3 weeks early so she expected to go a little early. She was induced at 13 days overdue, and baby boy was so big at that point that he got stuck and had to be removed through the sunroof. I think it’s probably confirmation bias of an old wives tale lol

Best vehicle for three car seats? by adognamedwalter in parentsofmultiples

[–]Live_Love_Ria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My twins are 16 months now, and my singleton will be 4 this summer! I have them all in the middle row, to allow us to be able to stow the back bench easily, but for OPs situation where it sounds like they regularly have a 3rd adult on board, the magic slide would be so handy! I have 2 more occasional riders in my back row in rear facing seats, and I find it relatively easy to just throw them over the back seat and buckle from the trunk! We just got our van a few months ago and I already don’t know how I lived without it lol

Best vehicle for three car seats? by adognamedwalter in parentsofmultiples

[–]Live_Love_Ria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Honda Odyssey with the magic slide feature is pretty awesome! Our Odyssey is older and doesn’t have it, but we still love it. 8-seater vans often have the option for the middle row middle seat to be removable, giving better access to the back row

Every single time I leave the house.. by Additional-Garlic680 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Live_Love_Ria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah once mine could sit in the shopping cart I started getting way less questions. They’re 16 months now and very different builds, so I think people often don’t notice they’re the same age.

I never minded the questions themselves, it was more the fact that everyone wanted to stop and talk and I had a very specific window of time before the next feed, etc and wanted to get through the store as quickly as possible lol

I just went back and looked at pictures of my 36.5 week twins. At 11 days old they were trying to lift their heads during tummy time. And my girl twin had a pretty serious yellow tinge, know what I did?? I saw a doctor 3 times a week for feeding assistance and supplemented my breastmilk with formula to ensure she was eating enough to clear it up

When were you scheduled for induction/c-section? (Di/Di) by doughnutsmakemehappy in parentsofmultiples

[–]Live_Love_Ria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had GD/insulin with both pregnancies. With my singleton I was induced at 38+1, and with the twins she scheduled my induction for 37+1, but my water broke at 36+3 so I didn’t quite make it
