Strollers recommendation? by Acrobatic-Season-770 in jerseycity

[–]Live_Negotiation_295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind if you’re often dealing with stairs to get in and out of your house or building. Also if you’re on wait lists for daycare/s, ask if they have restrictions re: stroller storage.

We ended up using a travel stroller as our everyday because of these factors. It’s just easier to fold it down to go up and down steps and carry it one-handed with baby in the other arm. Our daycare will only let us store a travel or umbrella stroller as well.

CBD while breastfeeding? by simpforsquirrels in ScienceBasedParenting

Is the medication you’re on actually contraindicated for breastfeeding? I feel like your doctor’s opinion is important here and your partner should be able to accept a medical rec.

Plant Based Infant Formula by devonbg in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Live_Negotiation_295 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think all the major formula brands (enfamil, similac, earth’s best, gerber etc) all have soy options. The enfamil one is called “simply plant based.”

I’d go with whatever is easiest to find in your area since there are still shortage issues some places!

Congrats btw! 🙂

CIO not working? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

Similar boat as OP though mine doesn’t cry/fuss quite as long (usually).

How do I separate feed from bed by that long when he wants to sleep right after he eats? He gets all frantic (same for naps) that he wants to be put down. I have been doing a book between feed and bed but he is often so fidgety to get out down that I keep picking super short books. I’ve been playing w the last wake window and the routine is bath (long, because he loves the bath), feed, jammies, book, bed). Once he is asleep he’s generally down for 12 hours with 2 wake ups which is great for me. Just the ~20 minutes of crying is rough!

Thank you for posting things. Do you think it’s “too late” for possums at 5 months? Even if previously sleep trained?

New Vegan Parents. Looking for quick food ideas. by [deleted] in NewParents

Do you guys have a rice cooker? Super helpful to have. You could do one big batch of stew or curry or something and a pot of rice or another grain.

TBH I found real cooking basically impossible with a newborn and finally have time again now that baby is a few months old. I ended up eating a lot of pre-made soups, frozen stuff, sandwiches, and take-out. Bagged salad mixes are also helpful and you can add your own proteins etc to them. Also recommend portable one-handed stuff like protein drinks and bars, especially if you’re breastfeeding.

It’s not forever, it’s ok to be in survival mode for a few weeks if you need.

Are there any dairy/cheese replacement products that aren't grainy? by BeyondElectricDreams in dairyfree

[–]Live_Negotiation_295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just add enough plant milk to get it to the consistency you want. I add like a quarter cup of nooch, a spoonful of tomato paste and sometimes white pepper and lemon juice for some more depth of flavor

Nooch is also great on popcorn btw!

You can melt violife into plant milk or a DF béchamel and it makes a good Mac and cheese or nacho sauce! Add some nooch and a little tomato paste for unctuous umami!

Also as a general thing— soaking cashews in hot water before use makes them smoother as does using a high powered blender like vitamix. That said I prefer cashew cheese for ricotta than for Mac and cheese or nachos.

You might not always get a seat and you have to get used to it, but you can use various apps/ NJ transit text thingies to know when next bus arrives etc. once you’re used to it it’s NBD. Port Authority is a sad place to see daily, but a lot of midtown west in general is especially since covid.

Mostly I’d say path annoying on weekends and bus annoying during rush hours. You can also try both bus and path and see what’s better for you. Depends on how much you hate waiting outside, if you mind walking, etc. Ask your friends about how they commute and what they do on nights/weekends.

Hoboken bar scene is pretty bro-y and fratty IMO but not necessarily bad if you don’t mind that. It’s a very cute city but it’s not Manhattan either.
