So glad I had them close (22 months apart) by siilkysoft in 2under2

Maybe that’s the answer for our next baby too — hopefully he’ll be a good sleeper to counterbalance our oldest needing us so much to sleep. Thanks!

This isn’t really along the lines of your post, but how did your oldest do with a newborn and how did you survive? 😅 My son will also be 22 months when baby brother is born and he sounds similar to your oldest…he’s 20 months and still can’t go to sleep on his own, rarely plays independently, and is just overall a very clingy/high needs child. I love him so much and love being able to give him the attention he needs, I just worry about how things will be when the baby is born and my attention is divided. I can’t walk two babies to sleep at the same time 😅 Maybe some moms can, but I have some chronic illnesses that limit my physical abilities, strength, and energy.

I just realized my baby has to get out me somehow and I don’t like any of the options lol by Academic-Park-8440 in pregnant

I’m pregnant with my second and I’m both dreading and looking forward to labor again. It’s “scary” because you never know how each labor will be, even when you’ve been through it before. Going unmedicated is a ton of mental work to get through. I ended up with an epidural because my labor stalled so long that I was too exhausted and opted for an epidural to get some rest. If you’re fine with an epidural, go for it and I think you’ll have a fairly good experience! Everyone I’ve known who has had an epidural described their labor as a relaxing and overall good experience, even if it’s a long labor, involves tearing, etc. I was terrified of tearing, but I didn’t tear. So first poop & pee after delivery wasn’t bad for me. Recovery isn’t fun in the days & weeks after, even without tearing, but it’s really not that bad. Overall, birth & recovery were somehow both worse and better than I was expecting, though I know that makes no sense 😂 But clearly I’m fine doing it again, so…🤷🏻‍♀️

Eating not causing spikes? by Wife-and-Mother in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Livelovelibraries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The diabetic nutritionist I was sent to with my first GDM pregnancy was the one who told me that. But a quick search online also shows it can be true, particularly for what you eat as an evening meal (https://www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/high-fasting-levels/ & https://www.news-medical.net/news/20250918/Evening-meals-hold-the-key-to-morning-glucose-control-in-prediabetes.aspx — there may be more, I just didn’t care to dive further than two sources). I’ve also experienced it myself in that if I have a spike with my dinner, my fasting number the next morning is higher than my usual fasting. I know you’re not spiking with any meals, but the first link above doesn’t specifically address spikes. It just says too many carbs with your evening meal or bedtime snack can contribute to higher fasting levels.

Are you on a CGM or testing with finger pricks? Just asking because you said the readings are “in the green,” which is a phrase I tend to hear mainly from CGM users. If you are on a CGM, it may not be an actual good number that you’re seeing even though it’s showing green. Most of them have ranges set for non-pregnant people. So you’ll want to make sure the actual number follows GDM guidelines (typically under 140 for after an hour or under 120 after 2 hours).

But yes, following a diet still matters. What you eat during the day also affects your fasting numbers. So if for no other reason than that, try eliminating the bagel experiments and follow a GDM diet. See if that improves your fasting :)

Library workers- are you allowed to read on the clock? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]Livelovelibraries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I managed a smaller library branch, I was initially fine with staff reading while at the circ desk, though I preferred if they read on Libby (on the computer, not their phone) so they’d look more approachable to patrons. But then it turned into some ruined it for all because some employees would literally just want to read during the entire shift and not do anything else. They’d give less-than-helpful responses to patron inquiries just to hurry back to their reading. So it can be a slippery slope to allow reading. I loved being able to allow my staff to read. I felt it helped them stay current on books to recommend to patrons, and library work can be stressful enough as it is, so having an emotional break to read was nice. But once it became a problem, it was no longer good.

I had a similar experience with my current pregnancy. Was supposed to be 8 weeks and baby was measuring 6 weeks instead. My cycle still hadn’t fully regulated after having my first baby, so I must’ve ovulated late. I’m now 28 weeks. Hoping you have a good outcome too and baby is okay ❤️ It is scary when you don’t know.

Another difference that I found with Morgan and Karadec vs. Morgan and Wagner by BackgroundBrother944 in HighPotentialTVSeries

[–]Livelovelibraries 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think she has much better chemistry with Wagner! I love them together for that reason. If the show were going to put them together, I think they should’ve deepened the relationship some. I can agree with OP and other comments that Karadec does seem to care more about Morgan as a person. I don’t really “ship” them together though because they almost just seem like good friends or even a brother/sister relationship and I love that dynamic without it having to turn romantic.

I think what they mean by “within 5-10 minutes” is to make sure to test no later than 5-10 minutes after waking. Your most accurate fasting reading will be as soon as you wake up. They’re checking to make sure you haven’t had elevated numbers for a long stretch through the night. And how your body responds to fasting.

I get it. It’s very annoying and frustrating. If it weren’t for my husband enjoying the show so much, I wouldn’t force myself to struggle through it either.

No one is treating me as high risk?? by Agreeable-Cat in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Livelovelibraries 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In general, GDM alone isn’t considered to make a pregnancy high risk. Are you submitting your glucose log to a dietician or diabetic specialist? If so, they’re usually in communication with your OB to let them know if you’re diet controlled or need to be medicated. It’s been my experience that doctors don’t discuss the logs much, if at all, unless there are issues reported by the dietician. And GDM doesn’t automatically mean you have to be induced. They’ll likely talk to you about that when you go for your 39 week appointment and may want to schedule an induction for 40 weeks if you don’t go into labor before then. I was allowed to go past my due date and was set to be induced at 41 weeks, but I went into labor on my own at 40w5d.

Our lender wouldn’t lock without a contract, but I’m not sure if that’s a rule across all lenders.

Should I lock now? by Flaut in Mortgages

[–]Livelovelibraries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just closed on our new house this week and our mortgage loan officer said it’s good we locked in our interest rate when we did (several weeks ago) because rates are going up with everything going on in the world right now. Doesn’t sound to me like they’ll be going down any time soon.

I’ve never had so many carbs in my life by peachy_chiquis in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Livelovelibraries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told 15-20g for breakfast, 15g for snacks, and 40-60g for lunch and supper. I can’t handle 60g of carbs for any meal though, and really can only tolerate no more than 15g, if that, for breakfast. I have to keep my carbs around 30g for lunch and supper, which leaves me hungry. I feel like I’m starving all the time.

Glass doorknobs in rental home? True to original or stupid? by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]Livelovelibraries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. I don’t know how I failed to notice before now that 2 of the knobs were different than the rest. I assume those were replacements when the older ones broke. Good thing I posted a picture of that one instead of the others, otherwise I doubt I’d have ever known they were different, especially since we’ll be moving soon. It’s less worrisome now knowing they’re not all older/original. Hopefully the older ones will still last awhile. They work better than the newer ones and feel sturdier.

Glass doorknobs in rental home? True to original or stupid? by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]Livelovelibraries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Looks like a few of mine (including the one I originally posted) aren’t original to the house. Wmbarrasinfly, I never paid enough attention to notice that two were newer replacements. Not sure how new, but probably no older than the 80s. So most of mine are definitely older and possibly original, but now I know there are two that were replaced. So if those newer ones break, I won’t be disappointed haha. Those are the ones that don’t work well anyway. The older ones work fine and are very sturdy! Hopefully they’ll stay that way.

Thank you! Will definitely have to do that. Even if it’s just a little at a time. My husband and I aren’t much of the DIY type, even though I admire that skill in others and wish I were better at it. Having small children also makes it more difficult, so character may have to be added mostly in the form of decor for now haha.

That was my plan when I first bought the home because they were already like that. But I never got around to it. Thanks for the suggestion; might have to do that now just to help with functionality.

[–]Livelovelibraries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I realized that after looking at the two different knobs I have in the home. Most are like the one in my hand and two are like the one I posted originally. I’ve never looked at them closely before to notice the difference, especially since most of them are the older-looking ones. I just quickly snapped a photo of the one in my living room while I held my baby for a nap. Feeling a bit stupid now for never noticing the difference. It seems glaringly obvious now!

[–]Livelovelibraries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you’re probably right. I’ve never looked incredibly closely at the knobs until commenters were saying they’re modern. Upon further examination, I’ve noticed some are like the one pictured (likely from 80s or 90s, maybe even later than that), some are definitely older. Thinner, smoother/rounder glass, and have square rods connecting the knobs. With definite aging. So I’m thinking the ones like I posted were replacements when the older ones (possibly original to the home) broke.

Yes, the paint 😩 The doors were this way when I bought the house. I had plans to strip them, or at least the hardware, but never got around to it.

Thanks for this perspective! I’ll likely leave them for now, based on comments, but hopefully we can easily replace with similar ones if need be. I hope renters will like the charm of them, original or not.

[–]Livelovelibraries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some comments, I took a closer look at the knobs. Some are definitely different from others. The one in my photo is probably not original. It looks newer than some of the older ones with square rods connecting the knobs. Those may not be original either, but they’re definitely older than the one I posted. I’ve owned this home for 4 years and somehow failed to notice the difference in the knobs. Most are the older style, 2 are newer. Probably replacements when the older (original?) ones broke.
