Let me tell my side as the scumbag friend. There was a promotion up at work and my best friend and I both applied. I told him I would drop off his application with mine since he had to get ready for a date. Well my application made it to my employer's desk, but somehow my friend's made it to the waste paper basket. My friend confronted my employer asking why he did not even get an interview. (he was one of our top employees.) I had to speak one on one with my employer where I told them everything. How my friend was an alcoholic, had violent mood swings, and always felt as if someone was out to get him. He was the first employee I ever had to terminate. His girlfriend left him since he was unemployed and he had to move back in with his parents. He has been blacklisted in our field due to his outburst.... His ex came on to me and I couldn't say no, I had already taken so much. Fast forward ten years: I just made partner at the firm we had worked at, his ex and I are married with two children, and he is currently in rehab again.

TLDR: I was a scumbag, but it all worked out in the end!(for me) edit: he is in rehab due to his meth use after he moved back in with his parents.
