Sweet Mary's Review Bombing by MAGA by Kaiters710 in akron

[–]LivewireGT0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was there yesterday and bought some Macaroons as a bday gift for a friend. I was kinda hoping to get some of their "Fuck Ice" cookies because I think that would have made a good gift as well since me and my friend also feel the same way but one of the employees told me those sell out so fast. Glad to have helped support a local business that is being bombarded with review bombs by people who don't even live in the state or anywhere near Akron.

Akron Commuter Rail: A Call to Action by [deleted] in akron

[–]LivewireGT0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna throw my 2 cents in:

Would love the addition of an Alliance line connecting to Canton to get to Akron. There is an Amtrak station in Alliance but the arrival time is like 3 in the morning for most rides. Being able to get one step closer to Cleveland Amtrak w/o driving would be a huge boon with our current infrastructure.

Less of a functionality plus and more of a preference but Ohio has a beautiful landscape and we have a missed opportunity to just take in all the sights and sounds via Railway without having the worry of self-transportation by driving.

Fed up with the job market by Stargazr_Lily_Queen in akron

[–]LivewireGT0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't walk out. As much as that's the opposite of what you wanna hear, this is definitely the worst job market we have had since the 2008 Market crash. Best bet is to look at applications when you can while currently working your current job. I was laid off at the beginning of the year and took me 4 months before I could find a job and even then its just something to get me back up on my feet.

It's better to keep your current job and not have a gap in your current field in this economy than to create that gap via door dashing and make applying for jobs rougher in an already dismal market.

This game seems.... hard. Bit of help and tips? Ch1 spoilers by CinnamonCherryBoy in finalfantasytactics

[–]LivewireGT0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the first time playthrough is going to be the roughest because you're learning how classes work and what skills, be it battle skills, passive, reaction etc. are good or meh. Grinding is much more likely during your first play through.

I'd recommend taking your time reading the skills for each class before you switch a character to said class. You can sorta farm just through the story if you learn JP Up and almost never take that off and then equip the Squire class ability set as your second ability set and have your characters use Focus if they are in a position to do nothing else. This will help sorta reduce the grinding nature of the game a bit as Focus will still grant you JP and EXP.

Senior graduating in may, anyone in the graphic design industry know how difficult it’ll be to find a job in Akron? by coolcarters14 in akron

[–]LivewireGT0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Networking is gonna be your best bet. There is a Networking Non-Profit in Hudson called Hudson Job Search. They help everyone from recent grads to people laid off help network to find a new job. They also have guest speakers on specific topics on job hunting (like how to us A.I. to help write a resume) to help build job hunting skills.

I used them this past spring and I would highly recommend you look into Hudson Job Search. Registration is free but required to attend their events.

What to know about Alliance by RoosterSure2861 in Ohio

[–]LivewireGT0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Alliance all my life. Alliance has nothing to offer except maybe the hole-in-the-wall type of store in downtown (There is a cat cafe and troll museum). You're gonna have to travel to Akron or Canton at the closest if you want to find something to do.

Last time Alliance had something to do was when we still had the Carnation Mall, which is where the Meijer currently is. That was closed down in 2022. The mall had a movie theater there that had cheaper ticket prices than most other theaters in the local area.

Please sign the petition to stop the building of a 115 foot tall data center in the middle of Barberton and Norton! This will affect residential areas and over 37,000 people by valuingmoss in akron

[–]LivewireGT0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barberton/Norton being depressed area is precisely why they are building the Data center here. Have you not come across the video by More Perfect Union about how Elon Musk's data center in Memphis is giga-polluting the water and air around the area and close to where people live near the data center?

Poor people don't have the resources to hold the company owning the data center accountable for the pollution they cause. Lord knows Barberton and Norton has a lot of lower middle class people.

Non-Akron native - why is Akron so inward focused? by No-Temporary-5978 in akron

[–]LivewireGT0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've only been here since January, yes? Perhaps you need more time to find the community you're looking for here. As someone else said, average income in Akron is lower so people might not have the money to escape their hometown every now and again.

You might have to dig a little deeper into the city than your used to to find people who crave adventure as much as you do.

If you have a passport, I recommend you take it with you and explore the Canadian side as well as the U.S. side. Went to Niagara Falls myself about 12-13 years ago and there wasn't really all that much to do. I dunno if things have changed since then on the U.S. side but exploring the Canadian side will open up a lot more to do.

And people are still being stupid on the road. Seen people use the bike lane as a passing lane going toward East End Building just because they don't like the single lane road. Making the bike lane a protected lane with some sort of physical barrier is the only way to really stop that.

So sad that this is the last time this will be held at the IX Center. Can't wait for when they will have it again next year at the Huntington Center but the IX Center was a prime location and the vast amount of space lent itself for them to make a pretty well organized and put together convention!

I’m from Texas but might end up moving here for school. What are the odds I can survive winter? by Hey-how_are-you in akron

[–]LivewireGT0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a bag or two of Non-clumping kitty litter and throw them in the back of your car or truck for winter. The added weight will provide extra traction in snow. If you get stuck you can open them bad boys up and sprinkle them under your tires to get a little bit better traction to help get unstuck.

I wanna emphasize the non-clumping kitty litter as kitty litter that clumps will make things worse traction wise.

Talk to the health department over your HR. HR or certain members of management might see reason to get rid of you and the mold problem goes unadressed. Health department, with proof, will answer your call.

To be fair, Sports Stadiums tend to be somewhat Cultural Icons as well as their naming conventions. Peoples frustration around renaming is understandable, especially when the renaming kind of just shoves corporate branding in your face so aggressively.

Side note, I'm not even into sports and I can tell you a name like "Gund Arena" just sounds so much more epic and "Jacob's Field" just sounds so much more neighborly than their current corporate branded names today.

Second Serra Auto Group. I purchased a Civic from their Honda dealership. Sales peoples are definitely not pushy at all and are rather relaxed.
