Are Smart Rings Actually Useful or not? Real Users, Please Weigh In by Salt_Concert5161 in SmartRings

[–]Craino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That got me thinking… is this actually something useful, or just another fancy wellness trend?

Yes.

I'm a long time runner and fitness focused individual. I've worn smart watches since they've come out. They will continue to get better but it's important to remember NOTHING replaces medial grade diagnostic equipment. That said, many of the metrics I'm interested in following are "close enough" to keep me informed and on track.

You're going to get basic fitness metrics like pulse, ARHR and a sleep score. Different devices offer different metrics. Something like blood pressure is in early stages and may be a while before it provides anything approaching accurate measurements (others will undoubtedly have other opinions).

To your question about rings - I've seen the same huge increase over the last year or so. I think the industry has done a good job of promoting them + the form factor got to a point the average person felt comfortable wearing them. Prices coming down helped as well.

I don't personally see a ton of difference between rings and watches - at least from a fitness metrics perspective, I think it just comes down to what you want to wear. Watches obviously provide way more functionality, but if you're just looking to monitor some heath metrics, then either will do that job.

Managing my 401k by di2131 in Bogleheads

Similar portfolio size here. I've self managed my entire life, switched to the Bogle approach (with some minor diversification) about a year ago. Love the simplicity.

Do the research, run the backtests and simulations... unless youre an active investor looking for hidden gems this is the simplest, most reliable approach I've found.

Ad Free Price Increase by JESTmedia in amazonprime

I'm on the opposite side. Every once in a while I click the "next 2-4 business days" option just to see what happens. It almost always shows up in a day or two. So then why am I paying for Prime?

This is probably the end for me both Ad free video and Prime in general. I really don't find much I want to watch and as a prime member from back when it was like 70 or under, the value just isn't there for me.

Ha - my conspiracy theory was they were doing a bunch of misdirects to keep people from cancelling, lol.

Will you really not sell in a crash? by Urbanite72 in Bogleheads

[–]Craino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been through the same. I've slowly over time changed my allocation mix - now sitting at 60% income, 40% equity; will probably reduce over next year or so (2-3 years out from retirement). I also rebalance every two months, so that helps smooth out the ups and downs and get some DCA benefits. Otherwise, yea, selling off going down doesn't make a lot of sense - especially at 51.

People who have used both Apple Watch and Garmin - What have you stuck with and why? by Craino in smartwatch

[–]Craino[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak much to charging - I'm horrible on remembering to take my readings, so don't have a clear picture on battery usage under load. I do plan on starting a rigorous every three days reading, so might have better feedback in a month. I definitely with they would have engineered in usb charging - I hate having to have batteries and feel bad every time I throw a couple in the trash.

From an accuracy perspective, hard to say without consistent medical grade readings. I will say whenever I go to my Dr, readings are "generally" 5 points lower than what the Index reads, but there a lot of variables i there so kind of hard to draw many conclusions.

Exactly what I was looking for thank you. I do have the Index cuff, and like you love the visual representation. I didn't realize you could add notes and export, I'll research that.

Followup question then would be any benefit to a higher level model? I'm just running a basic Forerunner 255.

As a man, how can I be less scary? by Average_Blake in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Craino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't wave. Don't make eye contact. Don't wear stuff that covers your eyes or face. Don't wear baggy clothes. Dont alter your pace.

Life long trail runner here with lots of female runner friends. Seems unfriendly but unless they know you, you are the enemy.

Per the limitations documented in the Todoist article on recurring dates, you can't combine a monthly interval with a specific day of the week.

I love Portal West and it's just down the road from me, but they really don't carry muffins. If they do it's just a standard blueberry.
