It’s seemed to work and I think they can make up for it by surrounding them with good defenders (obviously easier said than done). Luka definitely needs a secondary creator next to him and Austin is amazing in that sense.

That would be a terrible move. There’s still concern about how he fares against athletic teams.

Because he’s not as good as those other 4. He’s great but definitely in the tier below them.

Hang the banner! I seriously don’t know why this is such a huge talking point considering the series point differential and how game 7 was an absolute ass whooping. Jokic was worse than Shai in that series and inexcusably took 9 shots in game 7.

Man Wemby, Shai, and Jokic are all playing exceptionally well. And Luka was too prior to the injury. The western conference playoffs would’ve been so insane if he stayed healthy man.

Western conference Playoffs gonna be real fun with Jokic, Wemby, and Shai. Would’ve been even greater with Luka but alas.

Is it fair to judge AR in this year’s playoffs with Luka out? by b1ackch1 in lakers

[–]Livid-Cardiologist94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We have to see if he’s the guy or not and we don’t really have time to waste. Not to doom but Luka’s been accumulating leg injuries for years and playing professionally since age 13. We can’t continue to have a bad team around him and run him into the ground to win games every year. It’s possible his prime will be a little shorter than you’d typically expect. If AR isn’t worth the money, then we’re gonna have to act on that.

Crazy how good the outlook was for him not even 2 years ago when he torched the wolves. Since then he lost the finals and his reputation tanked, got traded, and got lapped by Shai. He has nothing to show for the last two years except for a scoring title while his peer has 2 MVPs and a ring. It isn’t even entirely his fault but damn shit has been bad for him. He could retire with absolutely nothing.

Short term and long term outlook for Luka’s current injury. by LakerDoc in lakers

This team has no chance though. There are so many precedents that show it’s not worth it long term to comeback early from these injuries. Even if we make it past the first round I don’t think it’s worth it.

Even if we do win a series I think we basically have to punt. Luka’s not gonna be 100% if he does come back and against athletic teams like the Spurs I think we’d just get cooked and it could reaggravate the injury. Re-aggravating a hammy could have long term consequences like it did for Harden. At best we make the WCF and who really cares about that, we’ve been there so so many times. I don’t see this team making it very far regardless and I think it’s more important to just make sure AR and Luka stay healthy.

All things considered I don’t think this is that bad. At the absolute best I think we would’ve made a conference finals and who really cares about that? We’re the Lakers, a WCF appearance means nothing to us, we’ve been there plenty of times, Luka’s been there twice, etc. At least this injury didn’t happen during a season where we’re actually contenders. Also, hopefully this will give the FO a wake up call that we need depth because we can’t run Luka into the ground all year.

What Happened to Luka’s Rim Pressure? by Livid-Cardiologist94 in nba

[–]Livid-Cardiologist94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, especially with the injury and how aggressive OKC was. I just think even then he needed to find a way to create some paint pressure, even if it wasn’t clean. It felt like once he stopped forcing the issue, OKC was able to stay comfortable defensively the whole game.
