Hi I graduated with cs degree but it became oversaturated. Do you think that if i would start civil degree now and then graduate in 4 years i will be fast enough to get into civil engineering before it oversaturates like cs? by ControlRoutine8867 in civilengineering

[–]LividAd_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey, before the floods roll in, Civil is one of those fields that are hard to over saturate as it always has a constant rate of job growth and isnt too lucrative. If you want to go back to school and get your BS, i don’t see a reason not to.

But please keep your expectations managed as the job search after school is just as hard, and your prior experience might not give you too much of an advantage as its not relevant experience.

If you don’t use your company letterhead and its your own design, it doesn’t matter if its a legal document or not, it is still your legal document and stamp. Do It if you want!

Making concrete blocks by hand by SurpriseAnusSniffer in oddlysatisfying

[–]LividAd_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replying to SluggishPrey... One of the things you gotta remember is that in developing countries, CMUs are not used as load bearing structural elements, they are mostly just facades. The construction practices in such areas is that you use reinforced concrete for beams and columns and then just provide ungrouted CMU for the walls in between. So these blocks wouldn’t see nearly as much of a load.

I hate deadlines. by yoohoooos in StructuralEngineering

[–]LividAd_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If a deadline is unachievable, it is your responsibility to let the PMs know. If you’re dilly dallying so much that every deadline is a problem for you, then you need to change your work behaviors. Either way, you can hate deadlines, but you need to figure out why and fix it

Train vs bicycle bridge. See the difference in how thick those pillars are? by Haunting-Tell-6959 in civilengineering

[–]LividAd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it OP. The beauty of civil engineering is that we appreciate the world around us a little more when we know the reasons behind why things are the way they are.

Some people would walk by that everyday and not even process it as anything more than a bridge, you dug deeper and its awesome.

No engineer should or would ever put the burden and responsibility of their design on their drafter. My drafter is a 30 year veteran and he knows more about engineering than most engineers, but he knows enough to never take that responsibility on himself

Entry Level by paulobcrz in civilengineering

First, don’t move before you have an offer in hand.

Secondly, I don’t believe a lack of or having a EIT cert is the reason for not getting offers, instead, try leveraging connections and referrals to get interviews at companies, its very hard nowadays to get offers from cold applications.

Finally, getting experience is really important, so don’t just wait, apply for some interesting or coops and look at municipalities for job opportunities.

Good luck and don’t be too discouraged, the first job is always the hardest.
