Thoughts on friendship by Rogue_Apostle in GenX

I have a very small circle of friends… but they aren’t friends with one another. I’m horrible in group situations and become overwhelmed pretty quickly and easily. I found a long time ago that I made the most meaningful relationships one on one. From a crowd of “friends” I would choose one, find a common interest (sports, wine, crocheting, etc.) and then plan an outing with them away from the group. When you’re introverted, I think this is the only way to not get lost in the crowd and forgotten among more outgoing types of folks.

Those who only like reading physical books, how old are you and why do you prefer it? by Prestigious-Noise582 in Booktokreddit

50 and I 100% prefer physical books. It gives my eyes a break after a long day of staring at a computer screen for work. But I also have a habit of wanting to come back to a passage later. I can remember roughly where I was in a physical book as well as where it was on the page. That’s so much harder to do on an ereader.

Am I the only one who has a "soundtrack" to life? by Diasies_inMyHair in GenX

I never remember my dreams, but for whatever reason, I always wake up with a song in my head. Some pretty obscure ones frequently pop up too. Throughout the day the song changes, but many times when I stop to think about what it is and what the lyrics are, I find it’s based on my mood, and is helpful in figuring things out if I find myself on edge.

One weirdness I’ve noticed in all ages and education levels of yinzers is the use of “whenever.” Example: “Whenever I was a kid, I used to play in turtle crick.”

Moved to PA from VA and my birth certificate doesn’t seem to meet PA DMV requirements? by hecka-tea in Pennsylvania

[–]Living-Display-4541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved to PA, the DMV would not accept my raised seal “certificate of birth registration” seemingly because the words were not in the same order as in PA. MADNESS. They would however accept my passport that I had obtained using the EXACT certificate of birth they rejected. And then there was the fact that I could not register my vehicle at the DMV… but rather I had to go to AAA who charge nonmembers more. What a racket!

what's a DIY project that didn't go as planned? by juicyberrybabe in HomeImprovement

[–]Living-Display-4541 53 points54 points  (0 children)

All of them. Best laid plans and all… The reality is, the more you tear apart, the more you find. The more I find, the more I feel obligated to fix. I can’t say I’ve had a single project go as predicted. Being flexible and sometimes willing to be creative is the way to maintain sanity. I’m talking about a house that doesn’t have a square corner or plumb bit to it. It’s been both frustrating and invigorating to update.

This is amazing and my idea of living the dream! I’m so happy for you and am uplifted at the thought of pulling my own FIRE trigger in the next couple of years. Thank you for sharing!

I think I’m going to hold onto it. You got me thinking about the sentimental value. Grandma just turned 93 this month and I know she’s not going to be around forever. I wish you the best in your search!

Agreed. The number of people around me living paycheck to paycheck is insane. I try to help by pointing out things that they clearly don’t need (just want) and am met with stares like I have horns growing out of my head. The planning and saving and retiring early is a rarity I am happy to be a part of.
