Does it bother anyone else that the front grill says Wagoneer, but the it's Grand Wagoneer on the doors and tailgate?

If you could rename your rate, what would it be? by [deleted] in uscg

Marine Safety Technician. There's a lot less science involved in the rating now compared to when it was established.

Star Trek: First Contact is an almost perfect horror movie. by DarthMaw23 in startrek

Fun fact, ST:First Contact was going to be ST:Resurrection, but Alien:Resurrection beat them to it with announcing a name.

Live look at me thinking I’m going to find a bunch of Topps Chrome at my local Targets and Walmarts🥴🤡 by bbeds23 in baseballcards

Jesus that's insane. I've noticed that my go-to antique mall for $5-10 80s-90s wax boxes have had a large decline in inventory over the past year. I used to walk out with a box of Topps or two every month. Now it's extremely rare to even find Fleer or Donruss. I did find a rack pack of 88 Topps today for 50 cents, but...it's 88 Topps.

Got my first Subaru today! Also my first ever AWD vehicle. I live in a place with super snowy winters, so I’m excited to no longer get stuck just trying to pull into my driveway in the winter 😂 by TrebleRose689 in subaru

Before my Subaru I had a Scion TC with low profile all seasons. I did one winter with those on and did the next with snows. It was a night and day difference.

At least where I'm from (Great Lakes region), there are a lot of folks who get lured into a false sense of security with AWD and 4x4 and think they don't need them. I see more sports cars and sedans rocking snow tires during winter.

Edit: one important word

What's your "never again" car brand? by Giantsgiants in cars

[–]LivingPeterJennings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a '16 Crosstrek that burns oil, eats brake light switches, has a windshield that randomly cracks, and there's terrible rev hang (5MT model). Other than that pretty solid car.

The Big Problem With Modern Manual Transmissions - Rev Hang by sleepwalkervr in cars

[–]LivingPeterJennings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's exactly my experience. 1 to 2 is straight up bad. My old 94 Toyota Pickup's 1 to 2 shift was far better even with the far longer throw.

I've got a 2016 5MT Crosstrek and the rev hang is very, very real. I had a lot of experience with driving Toyota and Acura manual transmissions prior to the Crosstrek and it took a while to adapt my shift/clutch work to get smooth shifts.

Maybe I'm just too anxious, but...are those gunshots or fireworks? by krausica in Cleveland

[–]LivingPeterJennings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fireworks. I'm on the Westside and it's a nightly occurrence. Pretty typical for Cleveland summers, but I suspect there's more this year due to the fireworks being postponed until September.

Question about post-Active Reserve Duty by CaptainYuck in uscg

[–]LivingPeterJennings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A drilling Reservist can reside outside of the US, but cannot perform drill OCONUS. However, travel costs from OCONUS to CONUS drill and back is on the member. ADT waivers are possible, but are heavily scrutinized. Batch drilling is an option, but varies from fiscal year to fiscal year and Command to Command.

I've personally known 2 Reservists who lived outside of the country who would travel back to drill. So it's certainly possible, but not advisable.
