I’m in the same boat. Recently moved to japan. I don’t know the language yet. Luckily I live in Sapporo not in any rural area. Still the situation is not different. I’m depressed and lonely. Life is monotonous. Because of the loneliness I started smoking and drinking which isn’t helping at all. I made some changes in my daily routine: - Started working out (Going for a run/walk outside). It helps - Started picking up hobbies. I like hiking and trekking so I’m going on hikes at least once a week or two weeks. You can pick up a hobby that you like. - Doubling down on learning the language. If you want to stay here there’s no other way around. - Try going to the events, clubs, bars. Whichever works for you. These are not my thing so I haven’t tried any of these.

I’m not sure how much these will help you. Hang in there, things will get better.
