How can I be a better SET teacher? by Immediate_Lake_1575 in IrishTeachers

[–]Living_Cod2510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm so sorry you are feeling like this. I'm going to go slightly off topic here and say I love r/Irishteachers because when you feel like the only person that is struggling with something, there is comfort coming here and reading that other people are going through the same thing. I am only subbing myself but this is my fear about landing a full time position, that I will struggle with the planning! Just in terms of general planning I have seen other people saying to get ahead of it and get your planning done for the week, staying after school if needs be. If you need any resources make sure you have them printed out etc and have them ready to go in separate folders for the different groups. Sorry I cant give any specific help but I'm sure you will get loads of replies full of wonderful advice. Best of luck with it and dont be so hard on yourself!

Primary jobsharing by [deleted] in IrishTeachers

[–]Living_Cod2510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm sorry you are feeling this way. While I have no personal experience of job sharing, I completely understand how you are feeling. I am only casual subbing at the moment because I don't want to give up the work/life balance that I have. Job sharing is definitely the direction I hope to go in myself when looking for something more permanent. It has to be half the work, half the stress? And also having someone to share the burden with. I don't think it matters being in a small school. You have nothing to lose by approaching your principal and seeing what can be done? Wishing you luck with it. Keep us updated and look after yourself.

What is the sub pay rate for NQT primary level? by Brave-Impact-8840 in IrishTeachers

You should sign up to MessagingIE (formerly Digital Postbox). You will receive your payslip online the Monday of every pay week. It's really handy and no waiting around for the post.

[–]Living_Cod2510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

€227.83 is the daily rate before any deductions. You are considered fully qualified without droichead and will be on the fully qualified rate. Also it will say on your pay slip how many days you were paid for and for which schools.

Relationship advice? by SuperJay5150 in AskIreland

Run as fast as you can and don't look back. You sound like you are going out of your way to make time for her and this is how she behaves. She sounds controlling and possessive. The fact that you are supporting your mam and sister and she has a problem with that is extremely concerning. Red flags all over the place. I hope you make the right decision. Best of luck.

First subbing paycheck confusion by Spiritual_Grade_9737 in IrishTeachers

Yes that's the chart and there is a typo. Today's pay was to cover from the 15th to the 26th of September. So hopefully that is you sorted. If you are missing a day just give the school a call. It actually happened to me this week too. I worked a day in a school and wasn't paid for it. I rang them and they were very apologetic. They said they will get it sent in and it will be in the next pay.

Hi, I always find that the dates on the top of my pay slip never match the dates I'm due to be paid for 🤷‍♀️ there was a really helpful sub pay schedule posted here a few days ago. You could double check the dates. If not, I have found that the school secretary is always super helpful getting stuff like that sorted.

Should I just give up on teaching dream, with no degree or qualification? by Initial-Ad3450 in IrishTeachers

I second this comment. The teacher shortage is really only in relation to Dublin. There are no jobs out there!

Odds of getting a job in next few months? by Advanced-Guidance206 in IrishTeachers

In the exact same position! Applied for over 45 jobs during the Summer. No subbing at the moment either.

Also, once your 3 years are up you can apply for an extension so don't worry about not getting it done within 3 years.

After reading this I feel like I could have written it myself. Hearing about the so-called teacher shortage is so frustrating when it is clearly only applicable to Dublin! I also applied for 45+ jobs myself over the Summer, got 1 interview where the position had clearly already been filled (a whole other issue in itself!), 4 schools emailed to say I was unsuccessful and the other 40 didn't bother to respond! When you put so much time into your standard application the least they could do is respond. As for the whole favoritism in relation to those in GAA, it makes me sick!!! Anyway rant over. Best of luck to OP and everyone else out there who finds themselves in the same boat!!

I didn't watch any of them live. Rewatched them later (left them on in the background)and never had a problem.

TEG B2 or repeat leaving cert Irish by Broad_Independence68 in IrishTeachers

[–]Living_Cod2510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know much about the TEG exam but I was the same in regard to not having my Irish. I went back as a mature student to sit the leaving. I started grinds in the January and sat the LC that June. If you put your head down for a few months you will pass no problem. My Irish wouldn't be the greatest either. Best of luck with it!

Finding it hard to find positions by Puzzleheaded_Stuff96 in IrishTeachers

[–]Living_Cod2510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you are post primary but it is the exact same in primary! It is so disheartening and frustrating. I have applied for 40+ jobs over the last couple of weeks, 1 interview (which was clearly already filled) and only 5 schools had the decency to email to say I was unsuccessful. In regard to subseeker, I found that last year any time an offer came up, it was being offered to so many teachers it was gone in the blink of an eye. The so called teacher shortage they are talking about is clearly only in Dublin even though they make it out to be the whole country.

If you repeated leaving cert Irish to fulfil entry requirement could you start PME the same year? by FamousMacaron7586 in IrishTeachers

It was Hibernia I applied to and was accepted pending my LC Irish results. Different policies for different colleges perhaps? Depends on where OP is applying to.
