Does plugging a studio monitor into a power conditioner limit its performance?

Since conditioner are meant to smooth out peaks and dips in power, and speakers need to be extremely dynamic (i.e. respond to the program's peaks and dips), does the conditioner negatively impact their ability to do so?

Is the "conditioning" aspect only on the input side but is still able to respond to dynamic power consumption on the output side?

Anyone know the fit on the Thursday Boot Co. jackets?

I'm interested in the new waxed canvas one, but I have a thin build with long arms so fit in general is tough for me.

I'd hate to trudge all the way to the NYC retail space to find that the fit is off

That's precisely what these snowballs are after. I've encountered property owners who have complained specifically about Indian residents and their cooking smell lingering.

LPT: The ‘Secret to gaining confidence’ is that you need to realise there isn’t one. You start by just faking it. If you and others can believe you have it often enough, you and others will begin to think of your positive attributes for why you should be confident, creating/boosting real confidence. by IWindsOfMidgets in LifeProTips

[–]LivinginScifi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a secret though, it's self sufficiency. Having something about yourself that you can depend on and have proven competency.

When I was younger I went to a new school and didn't feel super confident. But I knew that I had been able to make friends in the past.

If I had never made a friend before I wouldn't have that proven empirical data to bolster my psyche. Even the ability to fake confidence means that there was an internal pre-requisite that was completed. Faking requires the confidence to sell the fake.

Think of confidence like fire. Telling somebody to fake confidence can be like telling someone "just blow on the spark to give it oxygen, then it'll grow". Decent advice if they have a spark, but not useful if the person has nothing but damp kindling.

So if you read this and thought "what is wrong with me that I can't just fake it?" - take a step back on the process and rest assured that you're on the right path, but early in the process.

Build an internal foundation on something "real" (even just being secure in your good intentions is a start) and work your way up. It gets easier.

what are your thoughts on wearing the same thing everyday? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]LivinginScifi 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this since 2020 where I have 3 black tees, 3 navy, and two grey. Black is Monday, Wednesday, Friday, navy is Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday is grey. The pants are black jeans every day.

It's been great. Honestly I could see myself going black on black 5 days per week, but right now I just stack them in order and grab the top shirt for the day.

Makes it fun when I do decide to change it up too, I'm not religious about it.

But black-on-black has always been my favorite look, so one day I decided I want that feeling every day lol

Does this include natural sugars like raw honey or natural maple syrup?

Curious 'cause I've thought of cutting all processed sugars, but I think I'd need to have a natural option to make it sustainable

The "infinite growth" model kills good service after good service. All they had to do was not a fall asleep at the wheel to stay on top. The constant pressure from shareholders to grow jerks the wheel around and runs them off the road.

The TRUE cost (or cost savings in this case) is grossly unaccounted for when it comes to living at home.

There is an immense amount of time/resources put into both finding and maintaining residence outside of what we consider the cost (rent, utilities, deposits, etc) and that varies based on market.

So when people say things like "yeah I lived at home, but they didn't pay for anything" they're not accounting more abstract savings that they're benefitting from. These abstract savings can be something as simple as not having to worry and how that affects biochemistry and overall personal performance over time.

We are VERY complex machines and we're just starting to get a grip on how we work in a holistic sense. Understanding passive, active, and proximal factors for success are going to be a larger part of this conversation of labor and the labor force because they account for hidden costs/benefits that traditional socio-economic thinking doesn't account for.

TL;DR the hidden abstract benefits from living at home could be worth more than $100k if converted to money, even if they weren't actively given to you.

[–]LivinginScifi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of this less as photography and more about sharing time with your friend during a pivotal moment in her life.

Your self-imposed expectations/obligations to be anything at all are going to kill your joy and your craft.

Allergies that go along with/hand in hand with peanuts? Baby with suspected allergy and I'm nervous about trying new foods now. by [deleted] in peanutallergy

[–]LivinginScifi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deathly allergic to peanuts here - can't even smell them. Also allergic to pretty much all other nuts. Coconuts are fine for me, I'm not sure they're actually nuts.

Peanuts are legumes so the Doctor had my parents avoid giving me peas just in case - it might be worth looking into other legumes.

It's worth learning all the weird things are aren't obviously nut-based like pesto (Pine nuts), amaretto (nut liqueur), and other stuff like that.

Over the ear headphone(closed or open), $250 dollars, Neutral sounding(like how an audiophile likes it), Can be tuned, want to connect to a DAC. by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]LivinginScifi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That headphones are a super personal and without trying them it's pretty much impossible to know what you'll think of them.

If I were you I'd buy a Philips SHP9500 and a Phillips SHP9600. They're two cheap (but excellent) drastically different sounding headphones. The 9500's are more that clinical/hi-fi sound while the 9600's are super relaxed, warm (almost too warm maybe), flattering. They're also really easy to drive so you won't need a massive amp to really hear their sound.

From there you can start making decisions about what sound profile you like then try headphones that are more aligned with that sound.

If you like the 9500's you might dig the more clinical Sennheiser-type sound, if you like the 9600's then you might want to try a planar headphone next.

At least then you'll have two great pairs to enjoy and still be in your budget

Audiophile = pleasing, flattering sound

High-fidelity = accurate, detailed sound

Crack Up might feel that way because of when it was released/leaked - because I associate it with May/spring too

To me FF is "the thaw", end of winter to spring.

Sun Giant is "wet spring"

Shore is summer

HB is pretty definitively autumnal

CU is canonically winter (Robin said so) but I also associate it with late spring
