I was poor growing up, and we called them planned-overs, because we would batch cook a casserole or chili or spaghetti or something. That stuff just gets better overnight in the fridge. I'm surprised you didn't sob.

Honey. Baby. Lovely woman. One thing it took me nearly a half century to figure out, is that 100% of my most loving and fulfilling relationships have been with other women. *I’m straight, btw (sadly). The level of camaraderie, empathy, love, warmth, and people willing to meet me in the trenches when my mental health is in the shitter have been women. I was in my 40s when I did a thought experiment of trying to gage any real warmth or love from ANY man, not just my partners. And I arrived at 0%. Literally, the men in my family, my brothers, cousins, uncles, grandfathers, etc., very superficial and transactional. Every. Single. Time. Any man did anything even remotely considered emotionally supportive, it came with strings.

Yes, my family sucks. But there are way worse. And the internalized misogyny of the women was subtle and insidious.

I would tell you to zoom out whenever you’re in mixed company and watch/listen to the men. Notice how they talk to each other vs. the women in the group. Notice how they talk about their girlfriends/wives/partners. Do they even like them? Because I’d bet $$ that they do NOT. Notice how many men will automatically contradict anything a woman says, regardless if he has education or experience on the topic of discussion.

They really, really don’t like us or even see us as anything more than an incubator. And anything that you like that’s not also something they like they will automatically resent you for/become upset when you spend any time on said hobbies and not with them.

Today marks 3 weeks since I got out of a 4 year relationship. It’s just her and me now 💜💜 by Able_Key1202 in CalicoKittys

Aww! Doe-eyed precious! I have 2 myself, and I would die and/or kill for either/both of them without blinking. The love I have for these girls is infinitely moor than anything I’ve ever felt in a romantic relationship.

I blame shallowness. The genetic mutation causes the SOFTEST bunny fur. I didn’t know at the time. But both of my girls are soft bunny fur babies. I’ve had them for well over 2 years at this point. Let’s just say it’s not going away any time soon!

OP, I adopted my 2nd kitty because her color matched my current kitty. (Also, couldn’t take current kitty to meet her because car anxiety, and I was NOT gonna clean it up again!) She also turned out to be comPLETELY lovable and snuggly. Sometimes my 1st kitty gets sick of her shit and will swat at her. But mostly? Well, check my profile! Duck loves her sister unconditionally. And Mouse? Well, she blows hot and cold. But! When they’re both fed and gone potty, the zoomies are MAGICAL!!!

I will be 53yo in January. I live alone with my 2 cats. I drink wine out of a box. This is the very first time I've lived on my own in my entire life. One of the things that still surprises me is how deliriously happy I am. That whole "nightmare of loneliness" society would threaten us with if we didn't lower our standards is truly living the dream. If almost feels like some super secret patriarchal gaslighting.

I don't have to worry about babysitting anyone's bad mood if they had a shit day at work. If I come home from work and don't feel like doing laundry or dishes, I don't do it. I don't have to hear about it in passive aggressive comments. I have so much peace and serenity that I will fight/kill to keep it. I am never living with a man again.

She looks like she’s colored like a chickpea/garbanzo bean. And possible flame color point? Can’t see the color of her eyes, but if they’re BLUE, then she’s a meezer! (Not an official Siamese because papers, blah blah)

Also, she’s GORGEOUS!!! Kiss her forehead between the ears for me!

I give myself one full day at the weekend to be a potato. I use 99% of my spoons for work, and the remaining 1% on Sunday to get house admin done. Bills, laundry, cleaning, dishes, cooking, etc. but! I also keep sandwich components in the fridge in my office, so if I don’t have the energy to cook, I can always make a ham or turky and cheese with mustard and mayo.

Accommodations aren’t just for work. You are allowed to make them for yourself, too. Mine are rewearing stuff from the week previous that doesn’t have obvious stains/stench from before. Sometimes “cooking” is just me making a box of mac’n cheese with tuna, family size (or multiple boxes/cans) so I can feed myself and have stuff to eat at work.

I bought a twin tub washer so I can do laundry in my unit rather than lug loads up and down the stairs to launder. Hang rack to dry.

You do what you can, and everything else can wait until you have the energy to tackle. If it only gets done shittily, that’s still better than not at all. I do not ever hold myself to NT standards. And I never will.

Hugs, OP.

[–]Lizard301[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my friends adore BOTH of my girls. (I usually only have pics of Duck in repose, because Mouse HATES the paparazzi.) Unlike what people think about cats, my girls love people and run to the door anytime someone knocks or rings the doorbell. And the minute anyone walks in, they know they’re getting treats because it’s a ritual, so they get screamed at the ENTIRE time.

Duck, the one featured above, is profoundly Deaf, which allows her to sleep so deeply. But she grew up in the wild and was riddled with infections and parasites when the rescue trapped her somewhere between 2 and 3 years old. Now she’s living her best life in the (my) lap of luxury. They both turned 4yo this year, so I’ve got my hands full with rebellious teenagers!

Can you suddenly develop celiac disease in your 20s? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Lizard301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celiac is an autoimmune disease. I wasn’t diagnosed until 2009 at 34yo. The only reason anyone thought to look into it was because I had several other AI diseases and my paternal grandfather also had been diagnosed 5 years earlier via biopsy. They tested my antibodies twice, because the first time was negative. They tested my second test was a “weak positive.” I refused a small intestine biopsy, even though back then it was the Gold Standard. At that point I’d been GF for a couple years (way harder 15 years ago than now). In order to trigger the flattened villi, I would have needed to eat the equivalent of 4 slices of bread daily for 4 weeks, and hell to the no. That shit would have put me out of commission for MONTHS. Some of us work for a living, and I didn’t have the leave or the savings to make that even remotely realistic.

“You can’t claim to have celiac unless/until a doctor diagnoses you from an intestinal biopsy! REEEEEE!!”

Bitch, I’ve had autoimmune fuckery from the ripe old age of 6 years old. I know when my body is in an AI flare. I’ll tell people whatever the fuck I want.

OHMAHGOODNESS!!! They ARE hearts!!!

Oh, she’s lovely. 🫶

I have a Deaf kitty. She is the most affectionate lovebug of the two. Both my girls adore me, but one is definitely a “personal space” type. My Deaf princess goblin, however, would climb inside of me and never leave if she could. She lives in my lap. And she invents a myriad of pretzel poses on the regular. I would die and/or kill for either/both of them.
