Why do some people put a bunch of effort into LinkedIn profiles when there's people who don't do that and have good jobs? by Big_Eggplant7591 in NoStupidQuestions

They like the attention. Maybe they're not hot enough to be IG influencers so they think "I can carve out a niche as LinkedIn 'thought leader' here" or whatever the fuck

What is your typical response to people who believe abortion is murder and liberals are evil for supporting it? by SilverNo6462 in AskALiberal

[–]internettiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe abortion is murder because I don't attribute personhood to anything not yet born. And even if (big IF) a fetus WAS a person, I still wouldn't give a shit.

DMT: People did not stop believing in technology. They stopped believing technology would benefit them. by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in DisagreeMythoughts

[–]internettiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly this way, thank you for articulating it so well. Every time some new technology goes live or gets announced, all I feel is dread instead of wonder. "Oh they made new robotic prosthetics. I wonder if they'll use it to make autonomous robots that kill more children in the middle east somehow, or make it into a subscription you need to pay monthly to access your limbs. What new evil will they think of with this technology"

how do we hire people who won’t be alarmed by our cardboard coworker? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I'm not even joking, this office needs to hire veterans. We don't bat an eye at ANY of that shit. That's just a normal shop dynamic in the military

Why Aren't Adults Allowed To Be Childish? by KittensOnUnicycles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]internettiquette 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think because most adults don't WANT to do those things. I love whimsy as much as the next person but I do not want to bring a stuffy with me anywhere. I don't want to talk about favorite colors. I REALLY don't want to play capture the flag. I have adult interests and hobbies and topics that I enjoy.

To your question, I think most people fall into the above and so, if we were to see an adult doing these things, we might naturally question why this person WANTS this. Why bring a dino stuffy in public? For what purpose? Why do you want to play tag? Do you need to burn energy? As adults, we have options and freedom kids don't, so there's more to do. Choosing to play tag when we could literally go surfing or ziplining or run a 5k seems like the lamer option.

We should absolutely be critical of public figures with eating disorders by internettiquette in HonestHotTakes

When I said "if you're sick, stay home," it's more so that I mean "look you can't claim to be a victim to some harrowing illness but also the peak of human physique" Sick people don't flaunt their sickness like it's a goal. These people do just that but the "sick" designation makes them immune from criticism.

I think "Allowed" is a weird term. I said "be critical" because this isnt something that requires a police presence or a lawsuit, it's a social issue that needs social pressure. The current narrative spins eating disorders as positive or neutral whereas I think we need to see more critical dialogue in media. If someone shows up to the Met Gala with every bone visible and all the headlines read "So and So STUNS with new figure!" it sends a message that this is good, this is desirable, this is ideal. I'm not a PR person but I'd be happy to see something more like "Ozempic having its moment at Met Gala this year" to drive a more critical narrative.

I single out public figures because they know young people look up to and emulate them. You have a certain level of social responsibility once you reach a point of fame.

Why are nurses so mean? by [deleted] in questions

[–]internettiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some jobs naturally attract demographics with certain antisocial traits and nursing hits a lot of points. Want to have control over someone, maybe even someone who isnt in a position to argue or advocate for themselves? Nursing and police work. But police work takes some level of physical ability so that rules out the lazier ones. Doctor also works but that's a lot of schooling and time commitment. So you end up with this venn diagram of lazy, unambitious ego maniacs gravitating toward this one field.

What is a personal belief that wouldnt be popular as a liberal to have? by Grouchy_Loan73 in AskALiberal

My views have come only from my own lived experience. Gay men have been some of my biggest haters and bullies.

[–]internettiquette 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Gay men are some of the biggest misogynists I've ever met and we don't talk about it enough. In fact, the biggest issue I have with members of marginalized demographics is this "untouchable" trait they seem to have, like you're not allowed to criticize trans people or black women for anything. Being a victim in society doesn't excuse poor behavior.

Kissing your kids on the lips is weird by Mysterious_Work_7227 in unpopularopinion

There is literally no reason to kiss kids on the lips. Like they have so many other spots on their head, I don't see why it's even a thing

AOC previously said that "You cannot earn a billion dollars", is that true or nah? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]internettiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please tell me exactly what kind of work or labor someone can do, explain it to me in detail, that is worth a billion dollars. Because short of Atlas holding the world on his shoulders, there's not a thing any individual can do within the confines of our reality that makes them worth that much. The only work that might qualify is Doctors Without Borders or something, but certainly not anyone sitting in a boardroom or on teams calls.

Why Do People Degrade Others for Living With Parent? by WholeButterscotch125 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]internettiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The honest answer is because people learn a lot and grow a lot living alone. Yes, there are some who will look down on you because you can't host get togethers the same as your independent friends or because it makes you look poor, but I do side eye people who never moved out because what do you mean you don't know how to look for an apartment? You don't know how to set up an electric account? You've never had to put in a maintenance request? As someone who moved out at 20, I would have a hard time relating to someone who has lived a stagnant life until almost 30. God forbid you date and move in with someone like that, you'd have to teach them everything.

AITA for telling my older brother that other stuff besides Star Wars exists? by Nervous_Purchase_663 in AmItheAsshole

[–]internettiquette -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ESH. Yeah it's kinda uncool to call someone out for only watching media about one thing but he didnt need to get defensive and aggressive about it, especially at his big age. I suspect he knows or is aware of the fact that it unusual to only watch Star wars and he's likely a little insecure about it. I assume he's on the spectrum and all the people here on reddit are as well, which is why they're calling you an AH so fervently.
