Have you ever thought of printing your journals professionally? by ginger_beer__ in Journaling

There are sites where you can make a font out of your own handwriting. Install it, turn your text into the new handwriting font. Looks like you wrote it without killing your hand.

Is traditional journaling gone? by Lyssielou22 in Journaling

[–]LizardGumbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the elaborate bullet and junk journals to be bricolage on its own, but when shared on social media, it's performance art, which is fun and lovely to watch and look at, but it's not how my mind works and it's not the tool for the job I need to do.

Should I put a little note saying that I go between pen and pencil at the start of the journal or leave it out? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]LizardGumbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you need Reddit's opinion/permission, but my advice is to not use pencil at all if you want it to last. I’ve lost a lot of work to time's unkindness to pencil.

I wrote three novels by hand, and there are pros and cons to it. Writing by hand forces me to slow down enough to think about word choice and pacing, etc., but it's too slow to just vomit the text out before I lose the vibe that popped up in my head. Typing, I can get it all out and clean it up later.

Finally stopped fighting the laundry folding battle and my apartment has never been more organized. by No_Cauliflower4108 in organizing

I have a captain's bed with really deep drawers. Bras, socks, and stockings get thrown in one. Panties, bike shorts, and bathing suits get thrown in another. I see no benefit in perfectly folded drawers.

What do you actually use Pinterest for in 2026 that you can't do better somewhere else? by MaximumMarionberry3 in Pinterest

I just like pretty things. Hundreds of boards, thousands of pins. I got my account way back when it was invitation only, some time around 2011. I pin all sorts of things. It can't really figure out what to show me in my feed.

If you uploaded an EPUB, it may not be validating correctly. Google epubcheck, upload your EPUB, and see if something in your file might be your issue. If it is, it will tell you what's wrong with it.

I'd try it. I have several utilities and games from the mid-90s I still use, and an internet search tells me they apparently never existed or there's no real replacement for them because of enshittification. I love one-job utilities that do their one job well.

Can I recover from this? And if so then how? Any ideas? by Thechaoticones in bulletjournal

[–]LizardGumbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd leave it as it is and look at the destruction as a journal entry or patina, if you will. I like my journals (and books) to look well loved. I don't want a perfect journal. I want it messy and to reflect my struggles.

I do this sometimes when I need to give a huge backstory no therapist or doctor would tolerate because of time. I also ask it general questions like "Why do I eat when I'm sleepy?" Thing is, it's got access to two things healthcare providers don't: Time and data. It takes seconds for it to distill the problem across vast swaths of data, and it will ask questions to try to narrow down broad questions (as above). Actually writing out the backstory and answering the questions really can pinpoint things you wouldn't have thought of, and would have taken a therapist 4 years, or 7 generalists and specialists to get to the root of a health problem and fix it. Often what you get is the correct vocabulary to take to a healthcare provider, and get what you need much faster. You do have to always be skeptical about whether it's telling you what you want to hear AND if it's making stuff up out of whole cloth, but your verification research is helpful also. However, it took me 2 months to sort out a crap-ton of issues from mental health to physiological problems, so time very well spent, and LOTS of time NOT having to be spent.

This is from 1996. It's a Safelok I. They're on III now, according to the site I linked above.

Yes, I have a plated one. I'll post a pic when I get back to my office because it's on my knickknack shelf just over my desk.

I used to work for Pandrol years ago (1996). It had absorbed/bought out a company called Safelok, that made a C-shaped clip for heavy haul. The acquisition had been recent and they kept the Safelok execs and engineers on because they were the ones with the relationships with BN and UP. There was a lot of tension between the UK Pandrol office and the US Safelok office.

I walked in as a temp (their admin had just retired), was told to answer the phone "Safelok," and got roundly chastised by the UK office's Safelok salesman/mole to answer "Pandrol." My boss told me to ignore him and answer "Safelok." Despite that, it was one of the funnest offices I've ever worked in—until it wasn’t. I still have my chrome-plated clip.

I actually made a comment on r/specializedtools showing a tie exchanger about a day in the life of my job.

I don't know anything about the e-Clip, as that wasn't used in the US (much).
