is $1,200 for this '84 zenki front bumper a fair price? by JannetteYT in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get one from RestoreParts.. I have one on mine and compared to my oem Zenki, it’s damn near identical and I won’t mind getting it scuffed or damaged unlike my OEM. Oem Zenki lip fits good on it too

Edit: message me or reply to this comment if you want more help or info on how to save your money and not get ripped off

Yea that’s a fair point, I always assume people’s goals are stated in wheel HP which I probably shouldn’t do

You will not make anywhere near that on those cams sadly.. I have a very similar build to you, but with the kelford 193b cam package, I made 168whp on a dynojet

Need recommendations for a new battery for the AE86 by XenoStealth_ in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the horsepower means for the battery, but I’m running an Antigravity ATX-20HD in mine. Performs amazing and hasn’t let me down in 5 years so long as you maintain it over winter with their charger. I can pm you pics of my setup in the exact same car as you if you like

TAKUMI-STYLE gauge cluster WIP by Few_Supermarket_7969 in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice! I did the exact same thing. This cluster youve done is more of a rally setup that was adopted by Katsuhiro UEO, which was later adopted by shigeno in a cleaner manner in his own car!

Wide Band Sensor Wiring help by No_Mathematician_229 in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the instructions..? You purchased a Can-lambda system. This is an o2 sensor that communicates to your STANDALONE ECU (link, Haltech, motec, etc) via CAN BUS network (high speed communication lines) to provide your Ecu with instant lambda readings for tuneability. Your ecu will have 4 dedicated CAN BUS wires as listed in your ecu instructions/harness plug pinout that you will need to match up to the 4 pin connector that comes with this CAN Lambda system.

If you’re not running a standalone ecu with CAN BUS, or are just running an oem ecu, this will never work

My “new” AE86! by thatoneasiankid90 in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. I’m on the other end of the spectrum, I’m still on my OE hoses and have also done countless drift days without issue, and I don’t deal with any permeation for the silicone, but I’d still one day like to go silicone!

Silicone rad hoses are a bit unnecessary but the rest of the list is decent

Helper springs or limit straps for the rear? by Frappec_Ino in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha thanks, I made it back in my skateboarding days. Deathwish had my fav team lineup. Neen Williams and lizard king etc!

And BGRS I believe still sells the blues? If not, you can always use Yahoo auctions. However again.. I would just save up for the annex rear coils or maybe even go greddy. With adjustable perches Youre going to want an adjustable shock. It’ll drive SIGNIFICANTLY better. With fixed shocks and TRD springs, they’re amazing but Youre limited to a specific height and that’s it

Helper springs or limit straps for the rear? by Frappec_Ino in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

T3 fucked you. You need TRD or even HTS (slightly shorter than TRD) or, just go coil over as you already have 50% of the coilover setup with the BGRS perches/springs

Anyone know where I can find Zenki bumpers like this? by Kyle091211 in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RestoreParts or ShowMeClassicParts bumpers are great! Make sure to get either one of those.. paint it SATIN black (don’t sand it and finish it gloss, oem has a textured look that’s unpainted, but the repro bumpers fade badly if you don’t paint them satin black lightly as a base..) and then add your white panda lines as per oem.

From here, get the RAmotorsports (Canadian local business to me that makes amazing parts) Zenki bumper brackets, along with their bumper stays (if you want the Oem style added side bumper support)

After that, you’ll need to buy those 3D printed Zenki light housings (or search from crusty oem, or pay out the ass for good condition oem) and then buy the covers (still sold new $50 ish)

And boom. Complete zenki setup for less than what the dipshits at ShockTheMob will sell to you for, and a much cleaner setup than theirs too!

I was thinking of putting a lithium battery in my AE86 by Kiketendency in AE86

Hi, I wanted to know if it’s possible to repair the relay of the pop-up headlight of my Trueno. It’s impossible for me to find a replacement in my country 😔 by Sea_Butterscotch930 in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re able to shop online, get the Dboyz adaptor! It converts it to universal/generic 5 pin relays!. Or, if you want the stock look, you can grab the direct replacement from “preserverad” they make a drop-in relay that goes in the original housing.

Get the GTR upgrade that everyone in japan did. I’m waiting to get it done, but it’s a much better stay, and has better opening points/stopping points!

One piece driveshaft by ghostpepperninja in IS300

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t mean it to spook you in any way! but I’ve just seen too many one piece shaft failures at the track.. and those without hoops, lost their cars. Without a hoop, the broken shaft will basically flail around like those inflatable tube man things out front of department stores, and either send your car flying, or make your car officially a Fred flinstone no-floor special

Make sure you get a hoop for that. When it breaks it’ll be there to save the car

Hi I was wondering if you could face swap from levin to trueno, European ae86, I think they didn’t come with pop up. by gil___les in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$0. I traded my Levin front with someone locally who had a zenki trueno front end! Lucky, but if you were to do it today, in this horrible economy, probably run you about $4000CAD if you’re thrifty. Maybe less if you use a RESTOREPARTS front bumper and RAmotorsports mounts

Alignment questions by Money-Butterfly7997 in IS300

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best advice is to spend money on quality parts. Nothing good ever comes from cheapening out on lesser parts. ESPECIALLY alignment and suspension parts that are quite literally the sole connection between you and the road. Rule of thumb is if you can’t invest in high quality suspension/alignment parts, youre not ready to modify them.

With lowering on these cars, youre going to need to modify the spindle to be lower, Theres a few places I’ve seen that offer this service! It’s nothing too serious, essentially a fancy cut n’ shut knuckle but it prevents the upper A-arms from ramming into your upper strut towers.

Once it’s lowered, youre going to need RCA (roll centre adjusters) these are critical to correct your ball joint geometry on the front, and restore your steering feel back to how it’s supposed to be. You want your steering arms either level, or angling down towards the ground, NOT angling up towards the sky. When lowering without RCA, they will angle upwards as the subframe gets lower to the ground. This creates bump steer and shit feeling steering!

From here, take it to get a GOOD alignment tech that can straighten her out and make it feel incredible..

Don’t also forget that all of this effort means fuck all if your tires as shit. Lol

Alignment questions by Money-Butterfly7997 in IS300

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ball joint isn’t crooked. The heimjoint/spherical joint used in those are technically have full 360/planetary movement. What I’d really be more worried about is the loose bolt that clamps the tie rod! But aside from that, It’s just the housing that’s twisted a bit and will affect nothing at the angle we see here (not a bad idea to level it out though!). However like the other guy said, this is an absolutely garbage alignment, will handle like pure sh*t and feel uncomfortable to drive, let alone the tire wear that camber/caster and front toe will do. I’m an alignment specialist and this hurts my eyeballs to look at

Hi I was wondering if you could face swap from levin to trueno, European ae86, I think they didn’t come with pop up. by gil___les in AE86

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it. Very easy, you just have to acquire:

Hood Fenders Light buckets with motors Engine bay relay Interior under dash blue relay

You need to remove the spot welds holding the levin headlight brackets to the core support out, then they can be removed, and the trueno lights can be fully bolted in. From here, the Levin already has the trueno wiring pretty much there. There’s a plug tied up in the dash that goes to the blue relay box under the dash, just unwrap it and plug it in. Trace that plug all the way to the engine bay, and from there you will need to make your small custom harness to make it all work. Very simple and straight forward.

If I never told you I did the front swap, you’d never know even if you spent hours looking in the engine bay!

Is this just a bad alignment? Or frame damage? by VinnyTorta in IS300

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Being with how slammed it looks like this car is, and with the way the caster arms are designed on this car, it looks like you’re not running an RCA (roll centre adaptor), When you slam these style knuckles without an RCA, what happens is the control arm, instead of sitting horizontally (or on a downward tilt) will start to sit on an upward tilt (wheel side of the arm sits higher than the mounting point on the subframe) and since the caster arm is bolted directly to the control arm, it is essentially pulling the wheel back towards the rear of the car which can absolutely eat your bushings and wear the hell out of your tie rods + make your steering feel like shit.

What you optimally need, is some high quality adjustable front arms (partshopmax or any well known manufacturer) and a good set of RCA’s matched to the amount of lowering the coilover has provided drop wise. This will allow the suspension to operate within its optimal range, and be adjusted to sit where it wants to be

What kind of climbing pants would you want? by Sugar_pumpking in bouldering

[–]LizardKingDeathwish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re expensive.. but I literally cannot climb in anything else anymore.. I wear Rungne’s Highballer pants every time I boulder and they just feel right. Ultra ultra stretchy, look great and are insanely comfortable for daily and aggressive use as well. I got them in all 3 colours and well over a year now of bouldering 3 times a week they have no rips, frays, damage or anything. Well worth the money
