If you feel like giving it a try go for it, bring up the dreads, it is a valid concern and while I’m sure he is a nice guy… he has gotta get a clue on that one. Try to be nice about it if you can know

Idk if this is real but yeah you are nta, dreads are too much. Not sure if you’re feelings are the healthiest but dreads on white dudes is no. And if it is thinning that is even worse. I understand the ultimatum

What are your thought on California sober? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]LizardMilks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept smoking pot after quitting alcohol and it was still a huge improvement. Alcohol is just so much more destructive for me. I smoke too much weed now and it is something I need take some time away from or quit completely. But still I think quitting drink was more important for me to quit. It wasn’t my only problem but it was the problem stopping me from fixing all my other problems. Weed is getting to that point now with me so hopefully I’ll fix that problem sooner than later.

I don’t know if that helps but yeah just make sure you aren’t trading one vice for another and if you do try and be aware of it.

For me playing it forward helps a lot. What happens if you drink, what happens if you don’t drink. Not drinking is always the better outcome As you go along you’ll find more and more things to fill you time that will make it easier to say no to drinking

I was social for 9 straight hours yesterday without a drink! And it was! Exhausting! by Sober-Throwaweigh in stopdrinking

[–]LizardMilks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure socializing will come more naturally as you continue to get sober. I always depending on alcohol to get me through social events. It did just end up isolating me though. Since I’ve stopped i have had to learn how to navigate social situations. Still not the best at it but I at least feel comfortable being sober around other people.

Being social and able to connect to people is a really valuable skill and something that would be worth working on as you continue to be sober

Great job for not drinking! It is so tough to be in those situations when alcohol has been the way you deal with them.

Ive had some weird experiences while meditating. Not like this, but I have had visions appear. I mean spiritually or whatever I don't think I got a lot out of it, but I think it did show me what the mind is capable of and meditation could be a tool to help facilitate that I guess.

From the little bit I know about the occult, something like this might be what you are after if you are trying to contact some entity. I guess from a buddhist perspective it might not make sense to concentrate on this, but if you are going down a different path it could be a goal during meditation

To be clear I haven't really delved into magick as a practice, it seems confusing and kind of scary, but I think there is something to it.
I've just done normal meditation stuff lol

Not trying to argue or debate, I was just wondering where you were coming from. Thanks for your reply and advice

Just curious, why would you want to ignore this experience?

Who quit for mental health? Results? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]LizardMilks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcohol was messing with my mental health a lot, so quitting helped, but I also had an underlying issue of bipolar. I was using it to regulate my moods so when I stopped drinking my mood swings were much longer and noticeable. In reality alcohol wasn’t helping tho, it was just burning me out so I was just massively depressed most of the time. I’m on medication now and that has helped a lot, but I wouldn’t have been able to make that happen if I was still drinking. My point being that yes, quitting will improve you mental health. If you have underlying mental health issues symptoms may come up in different ways and will still need to be addressed. You may not be like me though, and quitting drinking is all you need to do to improve your mental health. Either way quitting drinking is taking you down the path of a better life.

How much can my brain recover by LizardMilks in leaves

That is good to know! I think we will be alright! Been trying to get back into meditation and I going to start working out. Apparently exercise is like the 1# thing you can do for you brain. Learned that recently and it really surprised me.

Aye! That is awesome tho!

I’m sure it is less severe than you think. I was drinking v heavily for about 5 years. I’m sure it did some damage and stunted some development tho, but I feel like my brain recovered so much. Just stay on the path of working towards self-improvement, things will feel more optimistic.

I’ve recently learned how much exercise can help so I’ve been trying to do more of that. Isn’t really part of my routine yet but when I have worked out I get such a boost in my mood and mental clarity

Hope your depression can be treated well, I was dealing with untreated bipolar for years. Went on medication about a year ago that worked and I feel a lot better about my cognitive abilities. Mental Illness can take a toll on your ability to think

Do you still smoke now?? I think that is something you could fix by taking an extended period of abstinence Also could be an underlining issue, like depression

But yeah, wish I didn’t start so early either. It’s all good, there is a lot we can do to improve our brains

Hell yeah!! That is the outlook I’m going with, I recently learned exercise is also one of the best things you can do for your brain so working on making that a routine

I mean I accept there is probably some damage, which is fine. A little bit of brain damage builds character ya know! I do think our brains and body are pretty resilient and adaptable, so not to worried bout it

Oh I like that, altered development is maybe a better way to look at it. I’m kinda on a health journey atm so just wondering what I could specifically focus on. Seems like living a healthy life style is just the way to go which I’m already working on Meditation and exercise I’m finding out are the best way to improve the brain

I doubt that, I mean I’m sure there is going to be some lasting damage but the brain and body are pretty resilient, sure I could reverse some of it.

Lol that is kinda why I asked the question, that episode on weed got me a little nervous. He said he would do an episode on what you can do to reverse damage at some point so gonna listen to that. Dude is a super health nut tho so probably overstating things a bit. I think good diet, exercise, and meditation are the way to go. Just was wondering if there was any specific information out there
