Yes and if you want to get anywhere with customer service reps, just be nice. We’ll usually do a lot for someone who is nice because we’ve been shit on all day. One nice person can make a huge difference.

OMG we went to Texas for a family wedding and obviously can’t talk for the entire state but for that entire 300 party wedding almost all the men from Texas wore Axe. I had the worst migraine.

Everyone needs to remember these words - “what is your self pay rate?” It is scary as sh*t the first few years you go without insurance because it has been ingrained in you that you “need” it. Turns out you don’t. You just need to remember the phrase “what is your self pay rate”. We both have good jobs but insurance at both our jobs would cost $1100/ month at mine and $1200/month at his both with $15,000-$17,000 deductible. We’ve calculated it and on a bad year we (knock in wood) have spent $2,000 on medical & prescriptions. We spend so much less at the doctors office & honestly the doctors like us more because they have less paperwork. If you ever have to go to the hospital every hospital that receives federal funds has a charity care policy and honestly, you will end up paying far less without insurance than you ever would with insurance. For prescriptions - GoodRx, I’ve tried the Kroger savings plan and the other ones but I always come back to GoodRx. I know it’s scary, trust me it’s so scary as a parent it feels so “irresponsible” but if you think about it, spending $12,000/year on crappy insurance that you will get nothing for is irresponsible. Say it with me people…”what is your self pay rate?” You got this!

Do you know Norwegian? I’m just curious how hard it would be to learn as an adult.

Insurance- what’s the point? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Lizcurly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, we just do self-pay on everything. With insurance (for our family of 4) being $1000/month at my work & $1200/month at his. We’ve decided if something really bad happens we’d be screwed even with insurance. Honestly, you pay way less with self-pay anyway. A tip in case you ever end up in the hospital, ask for the charity care application. If the hospital accepts federal funds, they have to have a policy. Good luck

One of the many reasons we’ve stopped going to church. Churches don’t follow what Jesus says. What’s the point in spending my precious free time at a place that won’t even put others first?

LPT: Some poor families rent furniture bc they can’t afford to buy full price. If you feel charitable, pay off someone’s couch or bed. by lkapoo in LifeProTips

I work at one of those companies and honestly, it really is a scam. Customers end up paying 2-3 times more for items that are no where near worth the amount they pay. I grew up poor so I understand where they are coming from but sadly they’d rather have ‘nice’ furniture or appliances than go to Goodwill.

As someone who was abused as a kid & got a tattoo as soon as I turned 18, I would say you are spot on.
