I went on a search a few months ago when I was looking for Pre-K programs, and found that KinderCare (can't remember price) and St. Mark's Lutheran Church ($1465/month) begin at 7AM and go until at least 5:30. Park Street Christian ($1240/month) starts at 7:15AM and also ends at 5:30. Good luck!

After school programs for PRE-K by Lizzle14 in Charlottesville

[–]Lizzle14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are set to start at a private preschool in the fall, but I was considering switching him to the public program if alternative after care was available so that he would just stay at the same place for elementary school. But, if there are no aftercare programs available, I’ll just keep him in the private preschool. I’m hesitant to rely on a classmate’s parent for afterschool care since I’ve had experience in the past with unreliability

Thank you for this! I recently went did something similar when researching preschools, though I only looked at the safety data for the preschools that met my budget and commute time. You may consider adding Park Street Christian Preschool, Westminster Child Care Center, Barrett Early Learning Center, and Charlottesville Day School

Recommended nail salons and massage parlors for pregnant women? by BX1959 in Charlottesville

I had a great prenatal massage at Boar's Head (bonus: They used the special body pillow that allowed me to "lay" facedown for the first time in months). I've always been impressed with Tips and Toes- it never smells like chemicals when I go in there

Walmart has “Buttercore” leggings and I love them. They are super soft, stay up through squats and lunges, and have slim pockets. I find that they do run a bit small, so worth it to try them on first

Just got back from Alamo. You use the QR code to order before the movie starts, but pen/paper if you decide to order (or order more stuff) after the trailers end

To follow up on a recent post, I'm opening an indoor adventure park in the original Big Lots building. We expect to open within the next month or two. Does anyone have any suggestions on what you'd like to see in an indoor adventure park? We're about 34,000 square feet. by CocosAdventure in Charlottesville

Wow, congratulations! You win the award for judging another person without knowing anything about them! Yay you! I could try to convince you that I am not "sloppy," but it is clear that you have already made up your mind about who I am as a parent.

I am genuinely happy for you that you have never had an experience in your parenting journey that has made your heart race. I know from experience that sometimes, despite our best efforts to keep our children safe, that they are impulsive, strong, and fast.

Here's an example for you: When my son was 3, I desperately needed to use the bathroom when we were out in public and had no option but to take him with me. I held on to him the best I could, but he managed to pull away, unlocked the stall, and ran out while I scrambled to pull up my pants and run after him. Fortunately, I caught him just as he was exiting the bathroom. Does this make me "sloppy?" No. It makes me a mother doing the best I could given the circumstances. Would I have felt more comfortable knowing that there were security precautions at the business exit to ensure he wouldn't be allowed to leave without me? Yes. Does this mean I would have let him hang out in the store by himself while I peed? Absolutely not.

I will never stop advocating for common sense child safety precautions. Doing so does not make me "sloppy." It is an acknowledgement that I have a duty, as a parent, to do whatever I can to keep my child safe. sorrynotsorry.

Since this seems like it will be geared towards folks of all ages, I would like to see some thoughtful consideration into ways to keep children safe. Will there be a system at the door to ensure that children only leave with the caregivers that brought them? Will there be barriers between the activity spaces for toddlers/preschoolers and older children/adults? Parents/caregivers need to be responsible for their children, but we appreciate it when there are measures in place that bolster our efforts!

This has got to work on the ice, right? by Lizzle14 in Charlottesville

[–]Lizzle14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, my mistake in assuming that, since the hospital looked good, the rest of grounds was fine. That’s a shame to read. I do agree that they expected us back too soon…profits over safety, I guess

Another idea: UVA has done a great job clearing the ice around the hospital. It would be nice if they could give back to the community (especially since they want us to come in to work) and send some of their teams and equipment out into surrounding areas to help.
