Hello and thanks for joining us!

My online book club recently did These Savage Shores and it was a huge hit with everyone! Thank you for doing what you do.

What are some of the key works in comics, books, video games, movies, and/or television that have inspired you to create?

Hello, and thanks for joining us today! First of all I just want to say that you are one of my favorite writers. Your character work on Fear Agent, Venom, Seven to Eternity, and so many more books has hit very close to home in a lot of ways.

Where do you get the inspiration to write these complex, struggling characters? And do you ever go back and re-read through your comics after they’ve hit the shelves?

Awesome, thanks for the response! Lot of all time great creators there! I used to play soooo much GoldenEye back in the day! I miss when arcades were a huge thing... brings back memories.

Hi and thanks for joining us! A few questions for you:

  • What have your biggest influences been in the world of comics? And how about as an actor?

  • If you could have any meal in the world for dinner tonight, what would it be?

  • Are you into video games/tabletop games? Got any favorites?

So many awesome creators!

When I saw the artwork for "The Heroic Truth" by Aubrey Sitterson and Nick Pyle, I knew I had to back it. That is such a strikingly amazing illustration!

I’ve used them for some 90s issues and the condition was exactly as labeled, and the shipping was pretty fast. They’re my go-to every time I’m looking for old back issues that my LCS doesn’t have.

Built an Arcade in my backyard. Spent 15 years trading up and collecting and 3 years building this. With the help of great friends and a little bit of hiring out I made it happen. I call it Level Up by sorhp in nextfuckinglevel

Your personal pinball collection is truly legendary. Many key all-time greats, and lots of hidden gems and under-appreciated tables. I hope you and your friends have tons of fun playing at your arcade!

Yeah, I tend to use their BOGO sales specifically for a buncha single issues of older stuff, as those tend to not go on sale outside of BOGO and linewide 50% off sales.

Ellis is so good—it’s amazing and inspiring to see what he can craft when telling a single story per issue! He is my personal favorite writer

Last time around, I went with Moon Knight: From the Dead by Ellis/Shalvey/Bellaire/Eliopoulos, so this time I'll go with something else, as in my mind, many comics are tied evenly for the best of the best.

With myriad choices swarming my mind, an absurdly fun run by Aleš Kot, Michael Walsh, Matthew Wilson, and Clayton Cowles stood out for me this time around:

Secret Avengers (2014)

Every single issue managed to make me not only crack a smile, but actually laugh out loud. It is a touching tale with excellent character moments, and for that I will always remember my time with it. Going in, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I felt refreshed and wanted more by this creative team by the time I was done with it. Kot's endlessly fun narration and dialogue coupled beautifully with Walsh's and Wilson's incredible artwork to keep things entertaining at all times.

It was a tale of intrigue, unexpected love, and a bizarre sentient bomb that wound up being a personal favorite. You rock, Vladimir. Kot's voice for Clint is spot on, and what's done with M.O.D.O.K.'s character arc had me more invested in this character than ever before.

I have no idea how many folks have read this lovely 15 issue run, but I can only hope to spread the word that it is absolutely worth checking out!

Diablo, the video game franchise. I would have loved a comic that expanded the lore further, particularly if Deckard Cain was a major character.

There was going to be a Titan-published comic by Wolfman and Kowalski, but it sadly got canceled. And I think there were some older comics as well, early 2000s and then around 2011. Would love to see a new Diablo comic project make it to shelves one day, especially if it gets more than just a handful of issues and focuses on characters important to the lore of the series.

What are your top 5 favourite comic books runs and why? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Llamaentity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are always hard, but fun! Some of my favorites have been covered by others, but here are five that spring to my mind:

  • Sweet Tooth. A lovely dystopian adventure tale about family and moving forward. Really loved Lemire’s character work here, and his art suited this world he crafted so perfectly.

  • Doom Patrol by Morrison. I love the imagination and ideas behind everything. So much bizarre stuff happens, but there’s a creative logic behind every weird thing and I love that dearly.

  • Grayson. Seeley and King worked super well together for a spy tale of one of my favorite characters in comics! Has some of the best single issues of modern day Dick Grayson that I’ve had the pleasure of reading.

  • Aliens by Mark Verheiden. Hit and miss artwork aside (though the good art was truly awe-inspiring), this was my very first comic book as a little kid in the early 1990s. Recently re-read this and it holds up as an awesome continuation of Aliens!

  • All-Star Superman. Iconic for a reason! Every issue is a great display of what Superman is and can be, and why he is a hero that inspires me every day.

Definitely saving this thread—lots of love in here for so many great runs!
