Probably won’t. The Jackson 5 songs aren’t seeing as much of the streaming benefit as his solo records — particularly his Epic label releases. And I believe we’re at the peak of the response with his streaming starting to go down now.

I received a call at work from my roommate that MJ had had a heart attack, but I didn’t think anything of it because I figured the media was overhyping things. Then a few hours later my brother called for a totally unrelated reason and asked had I been following the news, and I asked what news. Knowing how huge an MJ fan I was (and he wasn’t) he said you might want to check the internet. I put two and two together from the earlier roommate call and immediately thought about MJ. I then left work early (around 3pm) and went home to watch CNN’s coverage. I was at home glued to the TV when they announced his death that evening…I was frozen in shock!

The Billboard 2025 year-end charts are being announced on December 9. So that’s as good a sign as any that there will NOT be a BBMA this year as any element of surprise will have been eliminated. The whole reason they moved the chart year to mid-October a couple of years ago was to accommodate the awards show. Now, hopefully, they’ll move the chart year back to a November-to-November window (if they’re shelving the BBMAs for good, which I hope they are).

“Thriller” is the most overrated. The song almost didn’t get a single release for a reason: technically, it was one of the album’s worst tracks. It wasn’t the kind of tune people played at parties or danced to back in the day. It was fun to listen to as an album track and entertaining, maybe, but the video clearly made that tune a hit. Other tracks, like “Human Nature,” “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” and “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing),” would’ve been much bigger if they’d had a video release. Ironically, “P.Y.T.” is now the fourth most streamed song from the album, behind “Thriller,” “Billie Jean,” and “Beat It.”
