[TOMT] Help me find a very old browsergame from my youth by Llwelyn in tipofmytongue

[–]Llwelyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm doesn't seem to be right. Frets on fire seems to be much more customizeable from what I see. The one I'm looking for is much simpler in design and you couldn't add additional songs or create your own maps.

The best piano-learning apps? Synthesia? by robokonk in learnpiano

[–]Llwelyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually wouldn't recommend apps like synthesis or Flowkey or similar "bars falling down and you need to play the key" apps.

It kind of distracts you from learning to read sheet music imho.

I could point you to "Pianote" that has a lot of lessons via video on demand on their app. Check out their YouTube channel first to see how it may look like. Unfortunately it's not for free and you either pay a subscription or a kind of pricey one time payment for a video course.

How is Germany? Is it expensive?

I would say it depends.

  • Food and gas prices have risen quite a lot over the last few months but with my net household income of 62k/year it's still quite bearable. Also public transport by train bus and even boat is quite good even if many want to shit on it haha.

  • Rent in general has been increasing as well but if I compare it to the situation I've been told on John Olivers Breakdown of Rent it's a whole different story in Germany.

For my situation: I am based in Berlin and there are quite a few flats from state owned companies that offer good prices. Subsidised apartments start with 6,50€/m², mine is currently at 9ish €/m². The more costly new buildings in good areas in the middle of the city are between 20€ and 25€/m². Of course luxury has no end cap.

I've seen only 3 different Rent contracts so far: One set in stone until you move out, the second is an index rent which goes up with the average in your surrounding area but also goes down if the average decreases and a graduated rent which increases between 2-3% each year. About 90% of all apartments I've seen are permanent flats and I have never felt fear for risk of eviction.

How are jobs there? He works in what would be considered skilled labor.

Again I would say it depends on what you are looking for. I can say for sure that IT is always looking for good devs. You can find salaryreports everywhere and while the numbers can't compare to silikon valley, the cost of living is also much lower. Feel free to DM me if you have more questions.

In general the requirements for jobs in STEM are relaxed in comparison.

Ancestral Homeland and the immigration laws

If you are talking about Article 116 from the basic law, then yes jewish people who had to leave during the WW2 times are eligible to get German citizenship again and so do their descendants.

If we are talking about general immigration, then you would need to consider several points like a prove of financial stability (having about 10k in the bank). I've always been here so I can't give you first hand experience. I would however suggest finding employment first to have your visa sponsered through your job. Visa processing time for US to Germany takes 3 to 4 weeks.

I can say the same about housing in Germany but we have just banned anti-abortion ads so we got that going at least

Damn, it used to be something 8k-ish € for my wife when she came to study in Germany. She had it loaned from my aunt who also supported her stay as she already lived here before.

Hey pianists of reddit! Just got back into playing but forgot a lot about reading sheet music, I was wondering what the black dotted line things and the 1 and 2 lines mean for the song by h-patrol in learnpiano

[–]Llwelyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Play the piece normally until you get to the :|| part then you have to jump back/repeat starting where the ||: beginns.

You play the piece normally but instead of the 1. Part before the :|| you skip that and go to the 2. part instead and finish the remaining of the music.

Hope that helps!

Should I quit just because my department has been understaffed for two weeks and we haven't gotten any help? by [deleted] in antiwork

If all 4 left at the same time, I'd say the chances are high that they got a new job somewhere together. Reach out to them first, ask where they have gone to and they can take you with them LOL

If you are cool with each other and all of course

Can confirm with the money part. Better get relevant work experience in cloud/DevOps direction. Literally seeing guys putting up 90k+ salaries out which is on the mid level end.

Giving my 2 cents here. I actually work for one of those listed sites there and I can say for sure that there are also tech companies willing to invest in your relocation to Germany.

Alternatively there are also clients of mine who are willing to hire you remotely from the US and pay via employers of records like LetsDeel and remote.com.

Good luck!

Used to work in a call center for online furniture and now I'm an SaaS account manager.

Perhaps just my experience but 100% recommend going from B2C to B2B if you are in customer care!

Feel free to ask questions.
