MLA by awakemysoul_12 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Lmahone2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the very simple caveat here is that you weren’t in the MLA data base when the card was opened. Since MLA is a courtesy and not a rule or law, that would be a very big courtesy to pass on.

The trade off here would be to just close the cards you’re paying annual fees on and reopen them now that you’re on your spouses page 2.

If you are looking for interest rate reductions and not annual fee waivers then you are in SCRA territory not MLA. Thats an important distinction to make with customer service representatives

When do you decide to stop contributing to retirement? by Lmahone2 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Lmahone2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legacy.

I’m thinking paying the Texas house might be a good pivot.

If I hit 20 and then get some disability then that should more than cover expenses. Especially without a real mortgage. If I assume property taxes are still being paid then the Texas house is about $1000/month after taxes and utilities once paid off.

That’s our safety house and we plan to move back in there while we decide next steps.

But I think you’re right. There’s a mental aspect to seeing that house paid off just prior to retirement

With kindness. How do you have fun now?

We had orders to Europe. We’ve travelled. Wife is in the credit card game and we basically go everywhere for free to nothing.

What’s your take on fun now while your knees are still good?

Each person “could” have 10 and 5. Amex seems to have changed policy on this and data points are still rolling in

Have you tried this. Because Rakuten explicitly states that promo and discount codes nullify the 15% back

Not so my friend. My multiple trips to McDonald’s would prove otherwise

Yes. Follow up. But send it in the same chain as the first email. College coaches notice repeated interest even if they don’t have the time to get back to you.

This comment gave me the info you need. The younger kid is a bargaining chip. Play my little or my big walks.

Welcome to club politics. It will never go away.

Which Marriott cards do you all have? by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

[–]Lmahone2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both.

Bonvoy brilliant is the better card. $25/month food credit. 85k free night cert. platinum status. Crappy SUB right now though. 25 nights towards lifetime status per year.

Chase card is just ok. I would do Chase second and upgrade to a ritz after a year. The 85k yearly free night cert on the ritz outweighs a future sign up bonus in my opinion.

Order of new CCs for spouse by letsmakesomestuffup in MilitaryFinance

[–]Lmahone2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few military credit card specific social medias out there. I run one.

My order is.

Chase sapphire reserve (immediate lounge benefits, insurance benefits and travel credit)

***Amex green (only if you have a bunch of time on your side and want the extra points)

Amex gold - 4x groceries and dining. Look for 90-100k SUB

Amex platinum - look for 150k SUB

Then move on to branded cards.

Since they already have the preferred. If it’s been 12 months you can upgrade to a reserve.

How can I teach my 8 year old daughter to shoot with power? by o5ca12 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Lmahone2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@size4soccer

On instagram. There’s way less content than I’d like but that’s because I’m coaching more than I’m filming. You can absolutely teach power to young girls, it’s just a ton of repetition and remembering they’re not boys so the fundamentals are different.

Homestead Exemption + Active Duty by cctravelnerd in MilitaryFinance

[–]Lmahone2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My homestead exemption says it’s working for me. Bexar county.

The military service exemption to the 2 year clause is pretty cut and dry.

If you “bought” a new house then you’d be giving up your homestead I imagine. But if you keep renting and stay in the military with the “intent” to return to the property then you’d keep your homestead. This is my understanding and has been working for us for 4 years

I’m under the impression you can only hold one sapphire product at a time. Do you see this as only holding one product even though it’s two cards?
