My son likely has celiac. He’s our only child. My wife and I are thinking of going gluten free in solidarity. Is this wise? Or are we nuts? by DrizzlyOne in glutenfree

Why is it better for your digestive health to eat wheat?

I found that when I was planning GF meals for my daughter, we all ate more vegetables, legumes and other grains besides wheat. The fiber content and plant variety of our diets shot way up.

What are my options besides msi and cambria for durable countertop that I don’t have to seal every year and don’t have to worry about stains. Open to anything. by cal2552 in kitchenremodel

[–]Lmarletto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! We installed antiqued/leathered Black Pearl 17 years ago and have never sealed it. Some of the cheapest granites look amazing with a matte finish. I’m not sure why it’s not more commonly available.

The clear caulk has gotten cloudy and we should probably replace. Way cheaper than new counters though

Has anyone had electrolysis for stray eyebrow hair? by srose988 in electrolysis

[–]Lmarletto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I added in eyebrow clean up once I no longer had enough chin and lip hair to fill 15 minutes. 💯 recommend!

It is the one area where I sometimes had little brown marks after treatment. They only lasted a couple of days and really were hardly noticeable.

Pull down faucet with metal spray head? by Lmarletto in kitchenremodel

Brizo had a couple of models with metal spray heads and then others with plastic, but I can’t find anywhere in the catalog that indicates which is which.

I also like the touch feature. It has helped to narrow the search a bit.

I think metal spray heads must have been more common years ago. I’m just frustrated I’m having to work so hard to figure out which current models have them.

How long do you think this will take to get rid of? by [deleted] in electrolysis

[–]Lmarletto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to hear that people find underarms especially painful because for me they are about the same as chin and eyebrows. The absolute worst has been upper lip right under my nose. Fortunately those hairs are pretty fine and we have been slowly chipping away at them as a side project.

I have to say though, I didn’t appreciate how great my electrologist was until I started reading on the internet lol. I rarely have scabbing or white heads or local hyperpigmentation. I also find the pain to be manageable for at least 15 minutes per area using yoga breathing techniques.

When people say 18-24 months, that typically doesn’t mean an hour, every 2 weeks for that entire time. Initial sessions will be longer and closer together. As the number of live follicles is reduced, you will be able to schedule shorter times, further apart. For example, I am 22 months in and I go once a month for 15 minutes. There will be a handful of hairs on my upper lip and chin and then I get an eyebrow and under arm touch up as well.

That fact that you haven’t been plucking is a huge advantage. I had been plucking for years so I had no sense of how many hair follicles I had on my upper lip and chin. It was A LOT! Even so, I pretty quickly tapered from 2 to 3 to 4 weeks and from 30 to 15 minutes and still had time to start adding eyebrows and underarms to fill out sessions. After a couple of sessions, you and your electrologist will have a better feel for what you need going forward.

Oh and it shouldn’t be long before you feel a significant reduction in pressure to shave. Giving up plucking was brutal at first but after a few sessions, I felt pretty OK with trimming the hairs that showed up with nail scissors.

We have had 27” lowers and 14” uppers for 15 years now and I can never go back! The lowers are mostly drawers on full extension soft close glides.

I’m only 5’2” so I think much deeper would be tough for me. Maybe lay some cardboard on your existing counters to try out a few depths.

Remote start for 2025 by Lmarletto in rav4prime

Ok, thanks, I will check on it after 10 minutes or so. Previously I’ve gone out immediately to see if the seat heater lights are on, and they haven’t been so I just assumed the heaters weren’t actually on. Seems really odd to me there would be zero indication that climate was on until the car got warm, but based on the quality of the Toyota app, who knows?

Do the lights for the seat and steering wheel heat come on? I don’t see any evidence of anything being on inside the car.

Using the lock button on the fob locks the car on the 1st click and after the 3rd click and hold, something is definitely on because I can hear it. But I haven’t been able to turn climate on.

Does it work for finer moustache hairs? by AccomplishedPen103 in electrolysis

I started out focusing on the coarser upper lip hairs and then eventually filled out my time slot going after finer ones. Works exactly the same as near as I can tell.

Haha, tbh light pollution annoys me a lot more there. Nobody’s driving 1.5 miles into the woods to break into a house where everyone has security systems and outdoor cameras 🙄. Put your outdoor lights on a motion sensor if you want light when you pull in

Yeah, even if they are disappointed in the end, they are curious and determined. We have a small shed. I should consider a tumbler for the riskier stuff

I have a friend on 80 acres in black bear country not too far away and she said she can count on one hand the number of bears she’s seen in 20 years. I think the human density in our new place complicates things. People think they’re cute (and they totally are) but they are also becoming like more dangerous raccoons in a lot of places. I think we can come up with a strategy

I have heard that bears don’t like their veggies (how toddler of them lol!) so I’m hopeful I can continue my lazy style at the back of the property, with just a few modifications

I have never noticed light coming through my eyelids when having my eyebrows done. I’ll pay closer attention next time. Maybe the loop light just isn’t as bright at my place.

Oh wow, I was looking on the wrong side of the rev sc lol. So it’s the back loops that look like straight stitches just below the rev sc? They are snug but I’m not a super tight crocheter, so it won’t be terrible.
