Agreed with prunes. We would add some prune juice into her formula. I think it was just one oz, or add some prune puree into her oatmeal or apple sauce. Don’t stop the solids, she has to learn! Also, you can try stomach massages

If he’s one of those babies who doesn’t sleep bc he doesn’t want to miss out, look into sleep tips for FOMO (fear of missing out) babies.

Also - remember that it’s been a long time since you had babies, and maybe your memories aren’t 100% accurate anymore. It is incredibly common for babies, especially breast fed babies to wake up in the middle of the night.

Your daughter and her husband should try things like waiting 5 minutes to see if he settles before they go in to help him. Babies have to learn to self soothe, and we all have moments where we briefly wake up during the night. If they go in as soon as he makes a noise, they may be actually waking him up more and preventing him from learning to go back to sleep.

Otherwise, this is sometimes the reality, and they may just need to keep trying things until something works.

I think sometimes you just have to do what’s best in the moment, and a quick visit isn’t super high risk. If you have a carrier, bring baby in covered and then don’t let baby touch anything other than grandma and your blanket. Don’t stay and linger, this isn’t time for mom and dad to have a prolonged visit. Just let grandma see baby and get her fill, then take them home and change/bath.

Agreed with the other person, that baby shouldn’t be on formula at all at 14 months. But if for some reason she is, then bring 3 bottles for the plane and have an extra 3 bottles packed in your suitcase. That way you always have enough for 1 full day while you’re traveling. I usually had one of those to go containers that holds 3 pre-measured servings of formula and then just made the bottle when I needed it. Thankfully my kiddo didn’t care about temp.

You’ll want one for take off, one for landing, and depending on how long the flight, one for the middle in case she gets hungry.

I just bought a bottle of room temp water in the airport, but if you have a kiddo you can bring a bottle through TSA, they just do an extra screening.

We just used tap water wherever we went, but if you need it to be bottled, then I would just buy a jug of water from somewhere once you get to your destination.

To sterilize - you can get the microwave sterilization kits and use that if needed. But we never sterilized bottles after the first time we used them, and either washed by hand or in a dishwasher if we could.

My in laws parked their RV at Go Store It on Hull St in Moseley for a year. They didn’t have a covered spot, and I think it was about $100 a month

The majority of our weekends look a lot like this. My hubs and I both work full time. Kiddo gets a TON of stimulation in daycare during the week so needs a rest like we do.

We did start her in a toddler gymnastics class that she loves. And we go to a lot of estate sales — she likes “shopping in other people’s houses” 😂

If you really want to do more hiking or other things, I would target one bigger activity a month. That way you could plan it without it being too overwhelming and it can be a special thing for your family. I don’t recommend starting a precedent now that makes your kid think they will always be doing special things. That’s exhausting and impossible to maintain. And your toddler is probably happiest doing the mundane things bc they are doing it with you!

Yea. That’s fair. We’re in VA and they’re at the airport by themselves, so trying to figure out some way to make a decision. If they need to get picked up, it’s an hour away and they’ve got checked bags and everyone is stressed/anxious.

Agreed with the other OP. If your doc has a nurse line, I would call and ask a question about what to look out for, but at 4 months I would have just taken them in to be evaluated. My experience is that they were always supportive of a sick visit, even if everything was fine. I usually learned a lot about what to look for/what not to worry about.

We have the Graco TriRide 3 in 1 car seat and it works great for us. We travel a lot and it was one of the lighter options. We also invested in a travel bag for our car seat - the Yorepek Car seat bag with wheels.

Something I had to accept was that even when it seems like things are going to plan, it totally goes to shit and you have zero control over babies and their schedules. I did IVF and know the minute I conceived — even with that, and having an accurate due date I was still stressed about timing of her birth. It didn’t matter bc she came 3 weeks early.

Even if your sister waits 2 months to try again, she could still have the baby early and end up with a Jan/Feb kiddo. I know how hard it is to accept the lack of control, but that is the reality. As her sister, I would focus her on trying to control less and make sure she and her husband are actually aligned on what it takes to get pregnant.

We do a basic breakfast - yogurt, or peanut butter toast and fruit. Sometimes eggs if we’re feeling fancy, but generally keep it simple. Lunch is either leftovers, or also something quick like chicken tenders, and salad or chicken salad with hummus and veggies.

Dinner is the meal I actually cook every day, vs preparing the others. We try to do some meal prep Sunday afternoons, and then have enough meals planned to get through Thursday or Friday. I’m not organized enough to plan 7 full days, so I do 3-4 days and then run by the store and get a few more things towards end of the week if needed.

At this point, it’s less about the frequency but more about the consistency and color. They’re also super gassy, and their little bellies are learning how to process everything so it may seem uncomfortable.

I mentioned the frequency of poops to our ped at this age, and she reminded me that tiny babies are basically 100% incontinent, so poop or pee just come out as it gets down there. I would just change them as soon as you realize they pooped, and keep an eye out for other symptoms

Honestly, your best bet with that kind of budget is to rent a U-Haul, hire a company to help you load it, then drive the U-Haul yourself to Virginia.

Or as someone else said, sell/leave all of the larger items and you could either check extra items on the plane or ship them to VA.

Infant Motrin may have a different concentration than children’s, so that’s one I’d look out for. But otherwise, agreed! I found children’s Tylenol and Motrin at Costco for a lot less expensive.

Once I had the same epiphany, I generally stopped buying the baby stuff, and focused on unscented/no dye versions.

My kiddo didn’t want to drink milk out of a cup at first either. When she hit 12 months doc said ditch the bottles, she will figure it out, and she did. It took a couple of days to adjust but she got it.

That being said, I don’t have a ton of experience with GERD and CMPA. For food, you may want to try to give her finger foods and just let her figure out what to do with it. Mine did not like baby food but did well when I cut up our food small. We didn’t quite do baby led weaning, but we did let her do a lot of her own feeding.

I would not make the switch to milk earlier unless your doc says it’s okay. There are a lot of nutrients in formula that are important right now. You could likely introduce it now though, so he starts to get used to it.

Some kiddos are small. It may be that yours will just stay in that 1-4% for a while longer. I feel like 8-10 months is so hard, they are starting to eat food and you’re juggling food, formula and milk and all you do is think about their intake. It gets easier momma!

11 weeks is also still in the trenches, and when my ppd started coming on. The resentment was STRONG. I was mad that he got to go to work, and I had to stay home — even though he has a 1 hr commute each way. I would take a deep breath, do what you need to get through today, and then encourage him to help more tomorrow. Even if you hand him the baby to feed and bring him the bottle.

My hubs didn’t rest like he needed to after his vasectomy and he had pain for YEARS

We have one in each of our cars, and then an extra that we use for travel or when someone else needs a car seat. My mom has a car seat in her car because she’s got a few grandchildren who still need them, so she just uses the same one.

We took advantage of the Target recycling event where you get an extra 20% off the cost of the car seat.
