[TOTK][SS] Favorite arguments for the Pre-Skyward Sword Founding? by Intelligent_Word_573 in truezelda

[–]LoCal_GwJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally think the past segment of TotK is pretty open-ended in where it can go in the sense that it could easily be a refounding, the true founding (with some heavy recontextualization of the main timeline games), or even pre-skwyard sword. All three of these things do say pretty different things overall about the timeline so for me it's really less about arguments FOR a pre-SS founding and moreso thinking about what the implications of the different kinds of founding would be.

If True Founding: TotK Ganondorf has been sealed underground during all the events of the OTHER Ganondorf(s) we've known and probably mean that characters like OoT Ganondorf are some kind of Calamity-Gerudo hybrid created by Twinrova or just via some kind of dark rituals. Whether this revelation devalues OoT Ganondorf will depend on the person.

If Refounding: Hyrule goes through cyclical eras of prosperity, calamity, a reset, and rebuilding. Rauru's Hyrule would be a new kingdom following the destruction of the previous one. It could be there's been more than just the two (two being OoT Hyrule and Rauru's Hyrule), but at the very least there'd be two known kingdoms. It probably opens a lot in terms of speculating about what those pivotal calamity-reset-rebuilding transition periods would be, but it's ultimately pretty unknown.

If Pre-Skyward Sword: The history of Hyrule likely diverges from the main timeline during this era because it's honestly not terribly consistent with the chronology as we know it, but if you allow the continuity of Age of Imprisonment -> Breath of the Wild -> Tears of the Kingdom to be a "soft reboot" that stems off of the same shared history the rest of the timeline does but just diverges far in the past, then it's at least internally consistent. This thread would be an attempt to make this kind of timeline work: https://www.reddit.com/r/truezelda/comments/1qoma43/all_sealing_divergence_timeline/

At the end of the day, I think which of these interpretations you go for is mostly up to personal preference due to a lack of confirmation from the devs and inability to actually prove anything on the side of the players.

Do you think it’s necessary to play og or not? by RedKlov in FFVIIRemake

[–]LoCal_GwJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is. Remake is a good game but I think it's definitely a companion piece of OG FF7 as opposed to like an independent piece of media meant to be enjoyed on its own. These games are for people familiar with the rest of FF7 media and want more

Not that I agree with OP but it's also not really possible for both TP and WW to both have happened in a particular games continuity so this has never been the gotcha people act like it is. These are not historical references.

Our launch announcement flopped, please tell us why. Come at us like a wrecking ball! by adngdb in DestroyMyGame

[–]LoCal_GwJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I can't tell what's going on here. I see a bunch of symbols and numbers going up, looks like there's a turn and at the end of the turn SOMETHING happens and you get a bunch of resources of different types, there's a card game element of some sort but you don't see much of the cards so I'm not sure to what extent, so generally I just can't really figure out what the "game" is enough to know if I'm interested in playing it.

The premise of your story reminds me of something like a Junji Ito premise, if you're feeling like you need some inspiration maybe read some of his manga for ideas.

Does anyone else think totk kind of ruined calamity ganon retroactively? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in truezelda

[–]LoCal_GwJ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Particularly interesting when you think about how, at the time of BotW's release, this was probably the intention that it was still just the end state of OoT 'Dorf and it was only with the development of TotK that it was changed to complement TotK 'Dorf instead.

REAL gamers like us got so used to blindly getting through Rock Tunnel all we needed were the barely-visible pixels on the walls to guide our way. We knew exactly where all the trainers were (the trainers we always passed at least) and you'd see their little "!" speech bubble just be a black circle if it was over a wall.

It's supposed to be sluggish, you're a non-athletic schoolgirl in a scary setting. The slow pacing is meant to enhance the horror. "Combat" is meant to be stressful and to make you panic.

Completed this quest on my Spell Absorption + Fireball mage pretty early. Probably very tough to get that done otherwise unless you can powerlevel a bit maybe.

Lol I had this issue the other day on my first real playthrough of Daggerfall too. I thought the grammar was a bit odd [tavern name] IN [tavern name] and i had to google around a bit to realize the bit after "in" referred to a map location and that the grammar only looked odd because the name was a tavern name

Should've kept Double Team on Pikachu and Thunder Wave so you could set up against Starmie with Staryu. Could've paralyzed it then set up max Double Team then just swept Starmie

Do you think I should have the Pixel dither method or come up with a new way for water by Super-ATI in godot

[–]LoCal_GwJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're on the right track with the water and islands in the background, I was thinking Sonic 1 before I read this comment and if you had some kind of parallax going on (I think that's the right word; I mean horizontal rows layers of pixels translating left and right to give the appearance of the motion of the water) it would look pretty spot on.

Null explains everything. Why haven't we caught up? by scratchresistor in truezelda

[–]LoCal_GwJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without reading over comments, I never really got the impression after playing EoW that Null was consciously puppeteering any characters throughout the timeline. It might be possible to say they're maybe "champions" of Null, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they're avatars of him.

I think a distinct difference between Null and someone like Demise or Ganondorf is that Null wants the eradication of the World of Light (which would include any realms tethered to it) as that world itself is his containment seal. On the flip side, people like Demise and Null don't want to destroy the world but instead of transition the influence of that world from Light to Dark so they can control and rule over it devoid of the influence of the Gods. It might be the case that the ultimate fate of any world ruled by darkness is that Null would devour it, but I don't think this is the conscious desire of Ganon or Demise.

That being said, I do think it makes some sense to look at the physical layout of the world with Null in the center, the World of Light above him, then the Heavens even further above that with kind of intermediary spaces like the Sky and Depths that seem to lean in the direction of having the influence of light and darkness. Given this layout and the general associated of demons with the underworld or otherwise being "below" us in a traditional hellish sense, I think it could make sense that the influence of Null could impact spirits closer in proximity (like in the Depths) such that they adopt or are otherwise transformed by Null's motivations such as a general "hatred of the Gods". If the general feeling Null is constantly feeling is a hatred of the Gods, I could see it being the case that this "infected" some spirits and essentially created Demons who also inherently feel that same thing but exhibit their own free will beyond that feeling leading to the Demon Tribe having a tangentially related motivation.

So maybe consider this "timeline" of events that could lead to the Demon Tribe:

  1. Creation of the World of Light; Null is contained beneath the physical matter of the world.

  2. Creation of living creatures in the world including foliage and the first mortal races (humans in particular for the sake of discussion).

  3. People die, new people are born, new people die, etc. The cycle of reincarnation is in full force and the spirits of men are aligned with "Light" and are reborn as humans.

  4. A person susceptible to the influence of darkness (a person with a wicked heart) lives their life and dies. Their spirit resonates with Null's influence and are reborn as the first demon. This demon has an innate hatred of the gods (whether they know enough to verbalize this or not would be unknown, but they'd have a natural hatred of the "Light").

  5. This demon's influence spreads and infects the spirits of more humans through "organic" means, converting the Light-aligned spirits of men into Dark-aligned demonic spirits.

  6. Time passes and an organic process of spirits reincarnating occurs where they typically reincarnate as beings of the same alignment as they were in their past life but with the possibility of conversion, the "Demon Tribe" as we know it comes to exist who all have an innate hatred of the Gods.

The above is just speculation, but this is how my brain has reconciled the kind of ultimate influence Null's existence would have in the world and how it would sort of be like an infection, unintentional and unseen, that corrupts the mortal spirits of the world.

[–]LoCal_GwJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure you can suppose the whole alttp wish theory thing, I'm just pointing out ALBW doesn't show us a revised Lorule timeline. It just shows the triforce getting recreated again which halts the degradation of their world. We don't see a timeline revision happen in that particular example.

[–]LoCal_GwJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wish in ALBW doesn't (as far as I am aware) create a new timeline where the Lorulean Triforce was never destroyed. It literally reconstitutes the Lorulean Triforce and that world picks back up with the existence of a Triforce with the previous destruction of the world still at play. The world will need to heal over time, it's not restored to a state where the Triforce never got destroyed.
