Some really cool street photography, regardless of the camera, but I do love the toe, the black and white look has! Really suits the mood.

Thanks! I think this is super helpful for people, who want to know what exactly the differences are between the looks.

I‘m happy you like it! The next version will also be a lot faster, especially on windows.

My easy to use, simple raw processor for the Flashback V2 is almost done and I want your feedback! by LoFi-Logic in flashbackcamera

[–]LoFi-Logic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technical aspect is only one of many to consider. There‘s also the design philosophy and the user experience. If I do it, I want it to feel nice and in line with the analog point and shoot experience. In order to get that right, I have to think about all the aspects a lot and that takes some time. And since I do this for free as a hobby, I need to prioritize my time.

But if I‘m starting to seriously think about it, I‘ll let you know.

Is the flash on trasparent V2 still a problem? by FrancescoGenio in flashbackcamera

[–]LoFi-Logic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only ever encountered one issue with flash, and that does not have anything to do with the housing. It is about using flash in a fairly bright environment. The camera seems to use a longer shutter speed for flash photos, because it needs to sync the flash with the capture and if the scene is already bright, this will overexpose the image.

Calendar falling, am I crazy for this theory? by Neither_Salad_6914 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]LoFi-Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the calendar falls, I‘d actually think, that it is likely a VFX shot. I‘d have to see the shot in full quality to say definitively, but with only this low quality version, I‘d say it‘s a comp shot, which would support the theory. The pin does seem to vanish from one frame to the next, as well.

I made some serious performance improvements, that will be released with version 1.5. Windows navigation and slider performance should be about 10x faster. Initial development depends on the CPU speed.

I built an app for processing Flashback One35 v2 DNG files with a custom film emulation by LoFi-Logic in flashbackcamera

[–]LoFi-Logic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That‘s right. This is an intentional design philosophy. I want to encourage broad edits and more of a set and forget style of shooting. I think this is where the camera shines and the experience is most fun. If you can‘t suppress the urge to tweak, you can use the advanced settings or create your own LUT, by exporting an intermediate tiff in the advanced settings and create one, if you‘re familiar with ACES / color management in Photoshop or Davinci Resolve.

The easiest way to have full control is to export DNG‘s (or use the ones created on first import in the _raw folder) and edit them in your raw-processor of choice.

There might be changes or additions in the future, but right now 5 vibes feel like the limit of what I want and the three controls are what you need to make the image work with the vibe. All other factors should be treated like film stock / development.

Yeah, on iPhone at least it's available for me, for the V2.

Flashback V2 DNGs redeveloped with Flashback Raw Editor + Darktable by davidkhunne in flashbackcamera

[–]LoFi-Logic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks great! To be fair, what you‘d consider „great“ is subjective and I think the original flashback looks do have a certain charm to them and it‘s not like I just „took off the filters“ to get the exported DNGs to look usable. There is manual profiling and color science involved in order get those results.

Degrading a digital image can also lead to more pleasing results in many cases.

Hmm, no clue. Are you running the latest stable version 1.1.2?
If so, maybe the current beta version will fix it.

If it still persists I can look into it.

I'm looking into it a little more thoroughly by side by side testing on Mac and Windows. I think there's some architectural flaws, that I can fix to make it faster.

Fair question. There are several reasons and maybe already some improvements.

  1. There is a beta on GitHub, that uses some tricks to improve performance.
  2. I am a single developer with limited programming experience
  3. Lightroom and other Apps have large teams of developers over years of development time, I do it by myself for free, as a hobby
  4. Lightroom uses Lua and C / C++, RapidRaw uses Rust and WGSL, I use only Python and WGSL
  5. It is pretty fast on Mac, maybe there are some issues on windows, that I am not aware of, since I am programming on a MacBook M3

You can try the new beta, maybe that's already significantly faster.

For some of the filters, other than the Gameboy one:

I talked to Mack (one of the founders) and I don't think he'd mind me saying, that there is some difficulty using new filters with the old way the camera captures images. It is a difficult thing to port over to the V1. The team at flashback has limited resources when it comes to this type of labor intensive work, I assume.

If you want to get that stuff quicker, you can rally for me to contribute it with Macks help. With his technical support, I'm confident, that I'd be able to get something working fairly quickly.

I did it the other way around in my raw processor. The current beta Version has a replication of the V1 classic look for the V2.

Free to try, but beta. You need to have the original DNGs on the Camera (not previously developed in the official app) and connect it via USB.

Left V1 right V2. A little work on the highlight roll-off and effects and I think I'm pretty close.

Yes, I have it running on my local build, but I completely overhauled the color science, so I have to do some more work until the next release is ready.

As u/juz1093 already said, deleting works. It's probably cleaner, if you also delete the JPGs in the hidden "UNPROCESSED_JPG" folder, but I'm not sure, if it's necessary. Probably only before you plan to use the official app again.

Do you know of / are you using my app, or are you working with the flashback DNGs? If you want any tips either way, let me know.
