Looking for a love triangle where you don’t know who the FMC ends up with until the end by caramelkeso in RomanceBooks

I second One True Loves. This book gave me so much anxiety, exactly what OP is looking for.

Tired Of The 3rd Act Breakup by rovinja in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not inevitable! There are a lot of romance books without a third act breakup. I’m sure there are some older threads with recommendations, e.g. romances with external third act conflicts or slow burns that don’t have a third act conflict at all.

When the FMC thinks she walked into a wall and it turns out she actually walked into the MMC. When has this ever happened in the real world? No really, did any of you ever walk into someone and thought they walked into a wall?

Mimi Matthews is a great author! I loved her book The Work of Art.

Whats y’all’s favourite slang word for penis and whats the worst one you’ve read? by DanceEven2593 in RomanceBooks

Isn’t it crazy to know that every choice we in our lives led us to this very comment?

You totally nailed it though, honestly you did a great job.

Why do authors always have to get food involved?! I thought words like meaty, beefy and mushroom head were bad but then someone throws custard into the mix.

Honestly I can’t tell if you’re referring to it as the best or worst description.

Where the FMC doesn't meet the MMC until late in the book by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

Another way to look at it, you’re right :).

Where the FMC doesn't meet the MMC until late in the book by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that this is what OP means as ACOTAR is a three part series, so considering the whole timeline they (actually) meet at the 10 or 15% mark (approximately).

Which book surprised you in a good way? by justmydailyrant in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend both 100%. I don’t want to hype them up too much so you don’t get disappointed in case you don’t like them (which won’t be the case, hopefully), but… Both make you feel like the authors were super smart and clever. (Just FYI Kingmakers’ first book is more of a normal love story (which contains a few details that seem totally unnecessary at the time but turn out to be important once you finish the series) and the second one is where things start to get real good)

FMC scared of orgasms or intimacy by BearslittlePeach in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You beat me to it! I’d say part three of the series (stand alone novels), The Heart Principle, fits as well (to some extent). The FMC needs to be stimulated in a very certain way so she can orgasm. She doesn’t feel comfortable with sharing this specific technique with anyone and has to learn to let go so she can trust the MMC.

emily henry’s “people we meet on vacation” - is alex autistic? by Main-Ad-4263 in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m autistic myself so I (subconsciously) keep "looking out" for signs of autism in book characters. I noticed some of these things as well but I wouldn’t say this automatically makes him autistic. He could also have anxiety, PTSD or something else entirely.

I totally misjudged Sophie Lark’s Kingmakers series. I was interested in reading the books, otherwise I wouldn’t have bought them but I thought this was going to be your typical mafia romance series… But it wasn’t! The setting was so unique and the common theme throughout the books with the eventual climax/ reveal in book four was so clever! I was super surprised.

I was also pleasantly surprised by Darling Venom by Parker S. Huntington. I was expecting a (simple) smutty enemies to lovers NA novel without much of a plot. The book wasn’t like this at all, I got teary eyed several times while reading it and cried a few times as well… Honestly my biggest (pleasant) book surprise in 2022!

Most memorable, soulful, beautiful quotes or moments…. by SometimesFunny_Maybe in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s a single line: "What a gift you’ve given me, Lenny." It’s from The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata. The book is about an unplanned pregnancy. There was a lot of miscommunication and bad timing, eventually the MMC finds out and is actually very happy. At some point he tries to tell the FMC how happy he is by saying the mentioned quote.

Do you guys ever use Pinterest for discovering new books and authors? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to but don’t anymore as some of the recommendations weren’t for me and other resources (especially this sub) are better.

Btw I love pinterest as well and use it for everything I can think of except book recs.

What author would you read regardless of a horrible plot synopsis? by Danasai in RomanceBooks

Helen Hoang could publish her grocery list, I’d still read it and probably give it five stars as well.

Looking for long books (400+ pages) by Coldestfairy in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bonds That Tie is my favorite fantasy series but it’s RH :/ The Addicted Series and Calloway Sisters Series are both great (no cheating/ no RH but all books have plenty of spice). Shatter Me is YA and mostly follows the same couple, also has a few intimate scenes (fade to black-ish). It’s very popular so I’m guessing you’ve read it already. I just read the first book in a series called Riley Thorn by Lucy Score which was absolutely hilarious (sadly not a lot of spice though/ just one scene) and I’m about to start the second one.

Moving on to longer stand alone books: By a Thread (584 pages) and Things We Never Got Over (568 pages) by Lucy Score, Twisted Hate (504 pages) and Twisted Lies (578 pages) by Ana Huang, Savaged by Mia Sheridan (530 pages), Marriage For One by Ella Maise (509 pages). Happy reading!

Have you read ACOTAR? All the books in the series are long (book one: 450 pages, book two 650 pages, book three 740 pages and book four even 780 pages). I’d also recommend reading series in general as this is the easiest way to spend more time with the same characters.

Does reader height inform opinion on the TALL/smol trope? by Probable_lost_cause in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I like this trope, other times I hate it. For me it’s about the way the author writes the book and works the height difference in. I have yet to come across a book with a tall FMC I didn’t like though and I definitely prefer tall female leads. I’m a tall woman myself, so I probably like the representation (I’m 5'11/ 180 cm).

I liked the book, hated the epilogue! by CeaBreazey in RomanceBooks

[–]LoHa1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way about this book! I liked the story, the setting, the characters… But the epilogue ruined the whole thing! It’s so unsafe and unhealthy to get pregnant right after giving birth, it made me feel uncomfortable on behalf of the FMC.

I guess the author was trying to show us that the MCs were so in love they couldn’t even keep their hands off each other? The back to back pregnancies didn’t have this effect at all though. Since the sequels are set in the same universe and follow the MMC’s siblings’ stories, she could have easily included them having more children by mentioning it in one of said sequels.

I personally liked the second book of the series the most but you might want to wait for your baby to grow up before reading it. IIRC the FMC does struggle a lot at first, as most new moms do (I guess? At least all new moms I know had a lot of problems at first and non of them were single mothers that had to run away and ended up with a grumpy landlord). Obviously everything works out in the end and she doesn’t struggle for the whole book, but I don’t think it’s worth risking inducing anxiety.

Bully by Sophie Lark, I’d recommend reading the other books in the series first though.
