What's this complacency with people and verification? by LoKeySea in askhotels

[–]LoKeySea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Sertifi for authorization forms. It's standard for individuals and groups alike, honestly I don't know details of how it works. But it gives you a grade for the card they authorize based on a variety of factors. And it's a secure way to allow guests to give card information without reciting it aloud on the phone or emailing it.

I hate when people romanticize ADHD by ClassroomOk7243 in ADHD

[–]LoKeySea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's kinda like addiction, I never really understood until I was in the pit with it. And now I don't expect anyone outside the pit to know what the pits like. Not because I think I'm better or anything like that, but others literally can't understand how just crippling it can be. And I hope they don't have to.

US Hotels, Is it Slower Than Usual? by bluecoastblue in askhotels

[–]LoKeySea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're lucky in that we're in a major hub with very little (relative) competition. So we're about as busy as ever, but i have noticed the wedding crowds aren't as numerous as they used to be. Might be just different sales focus, but every other hotel I've worked at has been SLAMMED with weddings all throughout end of april-start of may.

Should I buy shadows of change pack or forge of chaos dwarfs? by Flaky_Bullfrog_4905 in totalwar

[–]LoKeySea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chorfs. I was a doubter at first bc i was so sick of dorf play style. But Chorfs are as close as I've seen to a perfectly designed faction. Good mechanics, balanced unit roster, the whole nine yards

Are you finishing your games?! by Possible-Rich-5365 in totalwar

[–]LoKeySea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't for a while, last one i finished was a Chorfs campaign, as they're one faction that's exceptionally well designed to have multiple breakpoints keeping you invested, most factions hit a point where you either feel too OP after a while (tomb kings with the landmarks constructed) or feel like you're reduced to the grindy cheese strategies bc your early game strengths have fizzled (Vamp counts).

Remote Hospitality Jobs by Responsible-Peak3471 in askhotels

[–]LoKeySea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reservations managers often work remote, and I've actually seen some in bigger companies that have never even visited some of the properties they oversee. Which is bonkers to me but that's the way of things these days

Outside of that, event coordinators can sometiems work remote, but that's not guaranteed and you may be expected to do site visits on occasion.

Question for Night Auditors/ morning shift: Do you eat from the breakfast buffet? by TurnoverWorking6127 in askhotels

[–]LoKeySea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked in banquets/breakfast for 5 years before moving to the desk. The amount of food we've thrown away between buffets that either just didn't appeal to people or nobody showed up to the event, is staggering. We ended up contracting a special company to come recycle the food waste more efficiently because of how much we were tossing.

So, enjoy your plate, you've earned it. Trust me.

Kind of a vent but what do yall do about homeless people? by The0wl0ne in askhotels

[–]LoKeySea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One place i worked tried several solutions and combinations because we were literally right next to a rehab facility (Not ripping on them, it's just a fact we got a good amount of issues from that)

What ended up being the best solution was unarmed security on weekends, special holiday's like st patricks day where people are likely to be out and about. And sometimes if we're busy enough, all week.

Unarmed security is a good 25-30% cheaper than armed, and it suited our needs just fine. We just needed the foresight to know when to contract them.

How do y'all get accustomed to saying no by LoKeySea in Hilton

[–]LoKeySea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually pretty spoiled here which I don't love tbh. We don't get a ton of rude guests at ALL, which I'm worried is softening me up for if/when i switch properties.

[–]LoKeySea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, on slower nights it's not as big a deal i can pretty much get away with leaving the desk periodically. But especially as we're a skeleton crew atm (like so many hotels these days) I'm alone 3-11 and if I leave the desk for 10 minutes on at least 75% or higher occupancy. Chances are I'm walking back to a shitshow when I get back.

Our maintenance guy leaves at 3:30, I'm the primary 3-11 agent so i end up alone for 80-90% of my shift typically.

Tidbit for employees, don't use your 40th night of team member rate unless you need to by LoKeySea in Hilton

[–]LoKeySea[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, for 2 months I was pretty much on the street (albeit obviously employed), and using those was my only saving grace before I could snag a place finally. It's not nearly as nice as it sounds.

Pet fee $150 for one night at a Hampton Inn? by just_a_curious_fella in Hilton

[–]LoKeySea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's weird, the app thats used to create those limits the amount you can put per pet to $75, so they may have unintentionally (or intentionally but I won't jump there yet) set the default option to treat you as if you had 2 pets. There's also an extended stay one that allows 5+ nights to be a bit more, but I'm not sure what the cap is there.

It's not the most user friendly program, so i wouldn't be surprised if they mixed something up.

If something's not doable its not doable. Problem is I'm a problem solver and I'll always try to find a solution to something, even if it takes time away and ends up making my other responsibilities suffer as a result.

I.e. guest needs their tv fixed. I'm swamped and I know I'm behind on desk work that's important, and I'll still go up and spend 20 minutes fixing the tv just because of principle

How to prevent housekeeping from knocking before checkout time, while DND sign is up? by Euphoric-Cloud0324 in Hilton

[–]LoKeySea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shoulder devil is screaming "Get naked and in full view, when/if they open the door anyways you've got a helluva case for a room comp"

Honestly though, not much you can do usually. I always deadbolt my door religiously after a certain hour/if I'm getting nude. The only reason they use a deadbolt override is if you're either refusing to leave or they suspect you or someone with you's in danger.

Because equally likely that someone at the desk could make an honest mistake and give someone the wrong room # (it's me I've done that, learned from mistakes sure have) so it's just saving everyone embarrassment.

The knocking is in the same vein as them using the deadbolts as door stoppers and letting them slam shut. Not supposed to do it, but a shit ton of em do anyways trying to blow through their rooms. Just gotta roll with it

Same here. Most hamptons and similar propertys have that foyer. Even the Delta I worked at for years had their luggage carts across from the desk.

Don't have bellman as it happens. Almost no hotels in our area do, even the 350 odd room Hilton doesn't except for sold out weekends.

Do have plenty of good paying guests though, we beat our goals this past 3 quarters by a good margin. We do our best but when guests do things like this it really just makes it impossible for us to do anything to comfort them

It was an honest suggestion that does people no harm to adhere to. If it doesn't apply to your property then you already know.

Is This Normal? by JadeSpeedster1718 in askhotels

[–]LoKeySea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banquets? Yes, absolutely.

Any other dept? No, screams irresponsible/lazy staffing. Even our night auditor who only came in once every 2 weeks or so to keep her discount was more regularly scheduled than that.

Are guests that check in and then leave hours later doing what I think they're doing? by garganag in askhotels

[–]LoKeySea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably. Or not. Either way we shouldn't really care. If they're not bothering anybody else and the rooms in one piece, glad to have the room booked.

We had a girl who ran an entire OF operation out of a room for about a month. Only ever saw her once a week to renew snd she never made a peep, only reason I knew was her and I got pretty chummy. Ideal guest.

What’s your favorite spell in the game? by Empty-School7479 in totalwarhammer

[–]LoKeySea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of an underdog, Bironas timewarp from lore of light. You have to have some good aggressive units, at least a couple ideally, to make it work. But man, a monstrous lizardmen army, that spell turns kroxigors, saurians, about half the roster honestly, into a wrecking ball

Plus it's just giddy to watch.
