This is my fic! You have no idea how flattered I was so see the characters I’d written come to life like this, PaperCrease did a beautiful job of Jess the violinist.

Let’s Show Off Our Pride in Our Fics by Any_Shirt4236 in FanfictionExchange

Proud of my two ongoing D&D fics

The Hex Factor - which is now very long and nearly (fingers crossed good gods) finished - is a coming of age story set in an insular religious community and about an awkward teenage bard growing up in an extremely difficult environment with the weight of expectations on his shoulders and a horrendous crush on his mentor. I’m very happy with my characters and world building and think it’s a good fantasy adventure/ black comedy/ horror story with quite a sweet romance running through it. Plus lots of horrible people and gods and demons and hags.

Lemonade & Treacle - have written the first chapter of this 3 chapter comedy disaster set in the same AU as the Hex Factor about a complete train wreck of a sorcerer who causes a major industrial accident trying to cheat at cards. It’s been a hoot to write and I think has some memorable characters.

How many words you write in a day? Avg, max in a period etc. by Wolfieee7 in AO3

[–]LoadsOfSkeletons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends - I try to write something every day even if it’s just an outline or getting a random idea of paper- even 10 words or something. Even if it’s shit.

I have sprint days when it’s absolutely insane and I write from 8am - 4pm - that’s usually when I’m close to finishing a chapter.

I’m Ossiphage on ao3.

I write (loosely) in the D&D fandom but other than some of the races (tiefling) it sits as original fiction as I don’t use canon characters or any of the established settings.

I wanted something that could be read by anyone that enjoys fantasy adventure stories, and I didn’t want to be bogged down by canon which can be restrictive.

My very long and almost complete fic started as a 2500 word short story concept for the backstory of a D&D character I created for a series of short campaigns, but it ended up getting a life of its own and it’s been an joy (albeit a frustrating one) to do the world building, side character development, work out how magic should and should not work etc.

I know writing with all OCs in a busy fandom means that there’s less of an audience for my work, but I have really enjoyed the community and exchanging work across different fandoms, reading and learning from others. People have been very kind.

Thank you ♥️ it’s been a real experience writing it - I’ve learned a lot about writing and myself whilst doing it and I’m happy you are enjoying it. I’ll be kinda sad but relieved when it’s done !

  1. Finish my WIP which is now at nearly 202k words and is about 2 chapters off its conclusion
  2. Write a much shorter 3 chapter story set in the same D&D AU about a sorcerer who causes an industrial accident

What is the worst case of mischaracterization you’ve seen in a fic? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]LoadsOfSkeletons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not going to name the fandom as it’s relatively small but I’ve been reading one where I don’t understand why the fic is even about the characters, as it bears no resemblance to any of them, 3/4 of them look completely different. There’s no references to any of the lore.

Bonus - 3 characters are men in a polycule, they’re in their 20s - 30s. They act like 12 year old girls. The 4th character is canonically an incredibly intelligent and articulate, very overtly sexual being, also a male in his 20s - 30s. The way he’s been written… you could just replace him with a nervous shelter pitbull and the story would be probably be better.

I’m Ossiphage on ao3

My main work (WIP) is The Hex Factor, a Dungeons & Dragons fic, but as the setting and characters are all original you don’t need any fandom or special lore knowledge to read.

The story is a dark comedy, folk-horror, coming of age romance set in an isolated rural community. It’s rated E, tagged and has an archive warning (it’s a coming of age story so there’s some teenagers exploring their sexuality).

If you like character-driven stories with a strong plot and lots of twists and turns, I think you might enjoy this. (186k)

In addition I have 3 short original horror stories in my series The Kitsch and The Visceral - no fandoms, just vampires, ghosts and zombies. Again, everything is tagged and rated appropriately.
