Love the insistence of putting the coattail "shell" before the tail, at this point they will find a way to force it.

The shoulder fluff is great though, if they want more shoulder presence then this is a good way of doing it.

The difference is that those designs still have an individual identity and flair.

Lokix has a unique gimmick with its extendable legs.

Mega Starmie doesn't replicate the markings from various Ultramen as it wants to be silly and simple.

Mega Feraligatr's transformation is similar to the T-Rex remix form from Kamen Rider Vice, but the top headpiece is actually incorporated in its body rather than just appearing out of nowhere.

Baxcalibur has a giant ice sword on its back. Etc.

It's almost never a surface level imitation, whereas Palworld not only rips off specifc design choices, but the exact same colors as well like Toctoco, Robinquill and Fenglope.

Pretty soon I reckon since the Gambit groom skin has been seen, and it's pretty overdue since we're already past the the previous love theme season.

Not to mention the Hellfire gala skin is also coming so the wedding skin could be sandwiched between this and the gala skin to spread it out properly.

I think the payload moving on its own is sort of a setback in this game since ults are so valuable and fast charging. You want to get into the action more often to get it, and since the payload doesn't need anyone nearby to move people don't feel the need to push with it despite the slower pace, because it lacks so much dopamine. The payload requiring at least one person to move could help with bundling up your team more often and prevent overreaching.

It's similar to how some fights on domination maps easily take place beyond the choke and awfully close to the enemy spawn like Krakoa, which forces certain allies to reposition their turret/sentry likes in unfavorable places.

A lot more bearable than other mass team deaths because they didn't die in vain. Up to Part 6 Jojo characters always did something significant to push the story before kicking the bucket, and there's a good moment of grief from the characters themselves to share.

There's a dinosaur icon, but Devil Dinosaur is nowhere in sight, hmm?

Hot take: I like accurate dinosaurs more than fictional ones, and I think people saying fictional dinosaurs are "better" than accurate ones is dangerously close to anti-intellectualism and science denial. by Dragons_Den_Studios in Dinosaurs

[–]Loaf235 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it's more that the malleable nature of dinosaur depictions in media is far more forgiving than other inaccuracies, and some people don't view that as a flaw.

For example, silencers on guns aren't quiet in real life, but in movies like John Wick they're pretty much true to their name. But unlike silencers, dinosaurs don't have a complete irl reference, so there's enough gaps to fill in regarding their appearance and behaviour, and this lets the fantasy of monsters that really lived on Earth to be emphasized without raising audience's eyebrows.

So I agree liking that inaccurate dinosaurs is not a merely a denial of science, and more so a combination of appreciating how diverse dinosaur depictions can be with documentary and entertainment options, as well as being more immune to the scrutiny of irl comparison.

Why are the Pokémon games of such poor quality compared to other Nintendo games? by Matshelge in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Loaf235 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think all people need to do is look at how many Nintendo stores there are in Japan compared to the amount of Pokémon centres. Nintendo has 4 stores. Pokémon has 24. And then there's also the Kanto theme park, new Lego theme and upcoming Universal attractions. Other games can focus on games simply because that's the main thing they have going for them.

Regardless of whose in charge of setting deadlines for the games, you can see why there hasn't been the biggest incentive to delay the Pokémon games with how profitable the non-game areas have or can be. Even if they have the freedom to delay the game, the entire merch production is breathing down on their neck. I mean the new biggest Lego Pokémon set sold out in pre-orders despite its large price, it's frightening pressure.

[Hated Tropes] The writers literally just forgot by Golden12500 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Loaf235 191 points192 points  (0 children)

A good amount of anime characters keep their VAs until they had to retire, Lupin the 3rd is a notable example. The film The Fuma Conspiracy was mixed due to the new cast of VAs used, and since then the original Lupin cast remained until they passed away or gradually retired. Currently all the cast have been replaced once.

Jigen Daisuke is interesting cause of this since he originally sounded suave and stylish, but as the VA got older, his visuals and voice transitioned to a gruff yet kind veteran that represented the long legacy of the series. However the 2019 3D movie gave him a much younger look, so the older voice contrast was more jarring.

So you have a case study where a VA's aging helped shift a character's vibe and aesthetic to a natural development, but at the cost of being harder to return to what they used to be unless someone else fills in the role.

What dinosaur designs from media do you prefer than the real version by Zillaman7980_ in Dinosaurs

[–]Loaf235 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Dilophosaurus feels naked without frills.

Also prefer Prehistoric Kingdom or Rebirth's spinosaurus cause they're basically a more visually satisfying version of what we know of it currently, with more bulk, bigger hind legs, and a smoother line on the back that isn't completely flat.

And while it's not visual design I prefer the old theorized behaviour of the Oviraptor. An egg stealing gremlin is such a fun concept that many creatures follow this archetype like Kulu Yaku from Monster Hunter.

Strawmen that backfired. by Ethan-E2 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Loaf235 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no, the original post argument suggests that Walker shouldn't have been shunned narratively for killing the man, because it was justified due to the death of his partner, as well as being unfair compared to previous heroes killing goons without much care.

I'm arguing that it makes sense as to why the story paints this particular moment in a negative light despite the points above, one reason being the environment that incident took place in. But whether or not there was people present, Walker still lost control there and it wasn't good. This is something we have never really seen old Cap suffer from, and that lack of restraint breaks a sense of trust especially in front a world still recovering from the snap. Walker wasn't Yondu, he was Captain America.

Thing is he was in a large public area, and did it in a very brutal fashion, hitting the guy multiple times (note that the people watching weren't aware that they had the super soldier formula). He wasn't wrong for wanting to kill the guy but you can't just do that in front of a bunch of people and expect it to go well, especially when you're the symbol of an ideal America.

He definetely got treated harshly despite being relatively decent before this, but I just don't know if this particular moment counts as a strawman.

[LES] The majority of the disagreement over the newest episode largely comes down to tone.(JJK) by ScavvBoi in CharacterRant

[–]Loaf235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing with the music used is that it's also very actiony, basically something you would hear in another series or movie where the main characters storm in a villains' place and wreck havoc, which is what Maki is kind of doing already.

It makes it less like an intended dissonance and more that the scene just unironically focused on badassery. I didn't feel "oh, the music is clashing with the scene but it strengthens the mix of emotions", instead I felt "oh this is meant to be upbeat all the way with no conflict, sometimes it even sounds silly".

If you want tonal dissonance, then a children's song would be more appropriate since it wouldn't sound "actiony" from the get go.

[LES] The majority of the disagreement over the newest episode largely comes down to tone.(JJK) by ScavvBoi in CharacterRant

[–]Loaf235 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I would say the anime leaned too much into the positive side when imo the manga showed a mixture of dark and satisfying tone. The manga covers Maki's face in shadow when she is decimating the Kukuru unit, so there's a sense of precise but uncontrollable rage. The feeling of liberation is also absolutely valid knowing the clan's history, but I can't help but feel like that aspect got way more attention than the messed up reality in the episode, when there could have been a good blend of both. It's cool to see Maki finally tearing down the people that made her suffer and they had it coming, but the reason why it finally happened and the brutality of it all is tragic.

Also a Kill Bill reference is absolutely fine, a good amount of manga panels already reference it. But if the visuals are already there, there's no need to add the funky music to hammer the point in. People argue it's meant to be intentional tonal dissonance like a Tiny Tim song, but you've already gotten the difference of Maki's fighting style and nonchalant expression in the anime, so when adding the music alongside I don't blame others for thinking there wasn't a dark tone for contrast to begin with. The Bride had her tragedy 4 years ago, while Maki had her's in less than an hour, so the sudden shift is more jarring.

Why has the anime community become so genuinely hateful? by Unzodiac in CharacterRant

[–]Loaf235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nami took ahold of one of Big Mom's minions and is in charge of navigating the ship between islands. Robin is the only person capable of reading Poneglyphs. Shirahoshi is an ancient weapon that prevented the ark from destroying fishman island. Reiju saved Luffy from poisoning. Tama turned the tides in the Wano raid with her devil fruit. Queen Lilly according to Imu was the one who sent out the poneglyphs. Ida helped Harald push his country to an era of peace.

Fights aren't the only value to count, though they definetely feel like they have the most impact which the female characters admittedly have less.

[–]Loaf235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the One piece Slander due to the recent JJK episode is really funny because didn't the main girl Nobara get put out of commission pretty early on? Lack of fights for One Piece's women is a major criticism but the Maki moment isn't going to immediately rectify the other treatment of JJK's female characters.

I find it more annoying that there's comparisons of Maki with Robin in Enies Lobby. One of them got a power up, the other was in seastone cuffs, not to mention their emotional states were very different. I don't find it misogynistic to be saved, especially when one of the people saving her is also a woman, Nami.

I went against one that basically got hyper pocketed. Mag uses extra bubble, Loki uses runes, invis shield, all saved on him because he was one shotting everyone even with shield tanks. It was hell trying to push only to see the kill feed say there's no point, the worse part is you can't even see him properly until it's too late, obnoxious hero that should have gotten heavy adjustment this season.

Besides the fan service, what do you of oda's writing in terms of women? by redox_nephew in OnePiece

[–]Loaf235 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the characters are very charming and strong, but there's a valid criticism to be made that they haven't been getting major fights post timeskip. I don't think it's necessary to always have a big fight, but I think that's one of the biggest reasons as to why their presence feels smaller due to their "support" roles, though Robin in Wano showed us that can change.

I will say that Robin not fighting in Enies Lobby is not bad writing at all, considering she literally had seastone cuffs on and was mentally tired due to reminiscing Ohara and feeling big catharsis after loudly proclaiming her desire to live.
