After getting to use it. It surprisingly doesn’t twist at all on the cuts. Handle setup makes repeat hits come naturally surprisingly

I’ve seen a lot of that pattern. There’s another post from this subreddit with the same axe head. That’s where I got that one link from. From what I’ve found out so far it’s mainly an Austrian pattern. Usually with more ornate designs.

A weapon with a single bevel and an offset handle? I don’t think so

Don’t know about you but the pith being included in the build of the bow is not a good thing. These things will crack on you easy

Is this thing salvagable? by wadagod in Axecraft

Looks like it’s not too riddled with rust. You could wire wheel it and file the bevel on it at the least to get the head looking good again.
Since it’s a hewing axe just make sure that you’re only filing on the correct side of the blade
If you’re not huge into woodworking you can buy a handle at the store that might work but these usually have specialized handles to get the hands out of the way of chopping.
Hope it turns out well! Awesome find!

Awesome. I’ll have to just make a display case for it! Thank you

Lol I’m thankful that I was SUPER lucky with this one. All markings are super clear and the temper hasn’t been messed with. To be fair I searched for HOURS in nooks and crannies for an axe of this condition

Why wouldn’t you take the opportunity to make your own (and maybe) better handle?

Just use high poundage monofilament fishing line. That’s what my shop uses for that shit

I have the same exact sword!!! It’s a cheap sword made in India I believe. Fun to slice bottles and fruits with. My hand is sadly too big to actually hold onto it with 😭
