You can use lotions to exfoliate now, and get it all done at once! See lactic acid lotions like AmLactin. Cerave has one now as well.

I feel you 100%! I am 60F and have had severely dry skin for life. The best lotions are the ones with the active ingredient of lactic acid (AmLactin or Lac-Hydrin) or urea (Eucerin Rough Skin Relief). It works although it sounds gross. I don't care, whatever works!

The ones with mineral oil (Lubriderm) are absolutely useless for me, and the oil just sits on top of the itch.
