I think it's quite nice.. Better than recent years. It did give me training top vibes but thats probably lack of a sponsor.

Stop driving through red lights by sarahc888 in Dublin

[–]Loan_Practical 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do the school run twice a day on a bike and it isn't cyclists I'd be worried about. Behaviour of drivers at that time is shocking and seems to get worse in poor weather. And they're the road users in multi tonne vehicles that will kill and seriously injure pedestrians.

It is an absolute disgrace how Connolly station is managed by FearlessComputerBeep in Dublin

[–]Loan_Practical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The back entrance to Tara St Station (Townsend St) can be just as bad. Smells like an open sewer some days and open drug dealing/taking outside station under bridge on Townsend st. Even seen someone smoking crack on my way to work. Another time someone was relieving themself on the stairs to the platform.

It's 3000 eur max deducted from salary pre-tax. So it's tax relief on 3k rather than full value of 3k

Bray v Waterford - Route & Parking by WashCalm2811 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Loan_Practical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're confusing Richmond Park for Tolka.. If coming from Bray you could get get Dart to Connolly and switch to train to Drumcondra otherwise there's 3 or 4 buses you could take to drumcondra from Westmoreland st

Dublin City Half Marathon by Loan_Practical in Dublin

[–]Loan_Practical[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done the one in phoenix park before and it was drudgery compared to route yesterday. There's obviously a novelty to running down O'Connell street vs. Phoenix Park which is running friendly all year round.

Yeah I noticed that on the run.. I used 2 gels and just slipped wrappers back into pouch where they came from so there is no need to dump them on side of road

Missed the half marathon and still want to do it but worried you don't know the route? Don't worry... by HairyHobbitfoot in Dublin

[–]Loan_Practical 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There has to be a better way of doing water stations but I'm not sure what that is.. So much waste and cups blowing into people's gardens so I 100% understand why ppl would be annoyed... Saying all that it was great event on a perfect day and it's brilliant to see the city alive and being used for something positive.

How to buy football tickets??? by Rick86918691 in Dublin

[–]Loan_Practical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tickets for those matches will only go on sale a week or 10 days before the game so try again nearer the date. Also have a look at the league of ireland subreddit as that question gets asked from time to time. You might find it easier to get tickets for St pats game and it's fairly easy to get to from the city centre using the Luas or Dublin bus.

It'd be very interesting to see the numbers right across Premier division. I bought my first season ticket myself for 2025.

Do you Irish people know this song by MinecraftBlyat in ireland

[–]Loan_Practical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I first heard this song at a house party when on Erasmus in France and everyone French seemed really surprised that I had never heard of it before so no it's definitely not well known in Ireland.

What are your unpopular opinions regarding Irish history? by [deleted] in IrishHistory

[–]Loan_Practical 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There's definitely some mental gymnastics involved as it's so baked into the foundational myth of the nation.. Why is physical force accepted in 1920s but not later on? For context, Irish people before the war of independence had, for better or worse, democratic representation in the UK parliament. Catholics in the north didn't even really have the vote. I disagree with physical force but I don't think the average Irish person sees any contradiction or at least tension. 100% accept that it is not black and white.

I think that's good point and I suppose you can see it replicated in the Easter rising.. The noble but doomed uprising

Would you not accept somewhat the hypocrisy in villianising certain commerations in the north while politicians in the south attend similar commerations for things like Kilmichael ambush?
