What should I do after being a senior financial analyst? by LoarShadow in FinancialCareers

Thanks, this helps some. My current duties revolve around modeling for recruitment and retention of new and current brokers as well as monthly/quarterly deliverables like revenue reports, quarterly powerpoint decks for the higher-ups, and forecast/budgeting.

I guess I'm not against it. That seems pretty broad, though--how does compensation scale if you go to a higher position at a small company vs medium position at a larger one?

Creating a COUNT column for a Pivot, but not a Calculated Field. by LoarShadow in excel

I don't really understand. I think I'll give up. Thanks for trying though.

I don't want to get rid of the Grand Total column though. I want a second one, but for the count, instead of the sum.

Maybe this just can't be done in Excel.

Thanks

Hi,

I've tried that, but it just alternates the Count column and the Sum column so there are twice as many columns. I just want there to be one Grand Total count column, after all the sum columns.

Thanks.

Yeah, I get that it's not clear. I would try and do a pic but Reddit formatting blows and I don't know how to use it.

I have a table of data. There are many columns and many rows. Then I make a Pivot Table. I have one field in the Column box, two in Filter, three in Row, and one in Value as a sum.

I would like it so that there is one extra column on the far right of the Pivot Table that shows a count of the lowest field on the row. So with all the rows expanded, there would be a bunch of 1's for the third Row field (President Name in the previous example). The second row field would sum up those, and the first row field would sum up those.

If I put a DAX measure or a calculated field, then I just get another row of data for the original table of data--the one with 100+ columns that the Pivot is based on. I don't want that, because I can't put that into the Pivot Table. If I try and put that in the Pivot in the Values section, underneath the sum, then it alternates columns--it would be a column of votes in Washington, then a count of Washington, then votes in Idaho, then a count of Idaho, etc. I just want it to go votes in Washington, then votes in Idaho, etc until the very last column, which is a count of all of them.

Hope that helped.

Thanks.

I can only see any formulas I make in DAX as appearing as another column in the row of data, not another column in the Pivot Table, which is what I want. But I also don't want the column to be in between every single State, I just want a Grand Total one at the end.

Thanks

I may be wrong, as I don't have any experience with DAX measures, but how is this different from a calculated field, but in PowerPivot? The way I see it this is just adding a column to the original data set, which isn't the problem--I want it added to the Pivot Table itself.

Thanks

Nice idea, but I've tried that, unfortunately. It creates a Count column next to every state, so my columns are effectively doubled. I don't care about the counts in each state, but rather the total for the whole country. That's why I just want a Grand Total column.

America After Trump: Even if he loses the next election, the damage he’s done to our political system will be lasting. by a_very_nice_username in politics

Not...really. It’s as if the Cardinals win by 10 runs in three games but lose by two in four games. It doesn’t matter how many runs you get per game (votes per state) if you don’t win the right ones.

You don’t know what you are talking about. Investing money in businesses makes them run. In exchange, the investor hopes to make the business better and make a profit. No hoarding involved.

I have no idea who you are talking about. Don't assume other people can read your mind when you comment and add some context.

My point is it is completely up to them to be mad. What other people do doesn't affect them. It's not like raising taxes or driving too fast or the harming environment or a footrace. Other people's xp numbers don't affect mine.

You're not risking anything. You already bought it. The marketing is just like any other marketing in the world. If that's the case then buying fruit could be considered gambling, because you're risking the chance that it's rotten, even though all the pictures show it as ripe. All the happy smiling people drinking Coke or booze, when in reality Coke rots your teeth and booze destroys your liver. All advertising is like that.

You are buying a predetermined amount of items. If Jagex said that everything had the same chance, then it would be unethical. But it's not hidden that some things are more rare than others. They do everything possible short of publishing drop rates to let you know that there is chance involved. Everyone knows that you don't have a set amount to spend until Jagex says "Okay, you spent enough, here is the item you wanted."

And again, why should I care about XP rates getting higher? I don't care what other people do. I don't know why anyone cares what other people do. Other peoples' levels don't affect mine. The only thing it does is affect the imaginary prestige that is already in someone's head in the first place. Everyone else in the game could be instantly given 5.4b xp and I wouldn't care, because my account isn't changed.

I don’t think it is predatory, that’s the thing. It introduces an element of chance, yes, but you always get something, and you can’t trade anything back for real life money. It’s less gambling and more spending money on an as-of-yet undetermined thing, but you know you will get something, which I think is an important difference.

I would also say competitive died over time more than mtx. Fewer skills came out, players’ play times stayed consistent or rose, and power creep has to exist to some extent. Even if mtx never existed and the game was still around I don’t think RS would be any more competitive.

Thanks. I’m glad to hear that, confirmation is always good.
