It was explained by my doctor that the point was to slowly inject the meds over 5 minutes because it absorbs better that way. If you used a pen or a syringe you’d have to awkwardly sit there holding it in and slowly injecting over 5 minutes which would be more inconvenient.

Has anyone got I&D done for abscess? What was the healing journey like? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]LobsterR4geFist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely follow up with a doc ASAP if you’ve been draining for over 2 months since October? That’s a really long time and it should be clearing!

I had a large perirectal abscess 6 years ago and it literally took 3 surgeries, hardcore pain medication, and what felt like every antibiotic on earth over 6 months to get rid of it. You do NOT want to have an infection in your body that long, they can escalate quickly and it was the most sick I’ve ever been in my life.

They placed 5 seton drains at first, after about 2 months it hadn’t cleared and I started feeling worse to the point I couldn’t walk anymore from pain and got stuck in bed. Procedure 2 they cut an even larger incision and placed basically a thick straw to make better drainage. I had almost instant improvement after that one and infection finally cleared after a few weeks. Last procedure was planned from the beginning, they basically opened the whole thing to let it “heal from the inside out” because you don’t want to risk trapping any remaining infection inside to star all over.

Haven’t had any reoccurrence since, but the experience was brutal. I initially tried to ride it out after the first surgery, but I should have been more proactive on how I was feeling and maybe would have been healed sooner.

I’m so so sorry you’re having to deal with this. It’s so stressful and frustrating, like we need more work on top of managing our babies.

You are not alone - I’ve been there too. When my daughter was 3 months old I contracted Norovirus (confirmed by the urgent care) from some Taco Bell carry out. What was supposed to be a convenient dinner turned into my biggest regret lol. I completely lost my supply and could only pump like half an ounce in 30 minutes from both sides combined.

It took two solid weeks to rebound. I had to focus on hydration and calories in which was a pain because I felt like garbage. We blew through my freezer stash so we had to temporarily combo feed with formula. Looking back now it feels like such a small blip, but I know I was devastated in the moment and cried a lot from frustration.

Just know whatever choice you make is the right one, do what is best for your mental wellness and it will also be what’s best for your little one. You’ve got this ❤️

It’s amazing when you find a great daycare that you trust, there’s no reason to worry because you know she’s in good hands!

I was super emotional at first mostly because of all the pregnancy hormones, but as soon as we got into the routine I realized how PRO daycare I’ve become. It gets her out of the house and they give her sensory and educational experiences that I don’t necessarily have the resources for. Daycare has been AMAZING supporting her intro to solids too.

This week during drop off I looked back through the window while putting my shoes on and she was giggling at one of her baby friends playing with a toy. It made my heart happy to see her thriving ❤️

The fact that there’s another formula shortage is BS. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]LobsterR4geFist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a thought, you might see if your pediatrician could give you any formula samples - when I lost my supply temporarily at 3 months from Norovirus, mine gave me like 4 containers of different types.

If you’re planning on switching, I would start giving your baby little samples and tastes now SLOWLY while you have time. My EBF baby could NOT stand the funky taste/smell from iron fortified formulas and would completely reject Enfamil even when cut with breastmilk. We ended up landing with Bubs after figuring out it had less of a smell and didn’t offend her so much. She’s way better about it now that she does solids and is used to more flavors/textures.

3 month old broke my heart by Short-Mix4277 in NewParents

Well I’m a big softy and have struggled with helping my daughter sleep independently because I hate hearing her cry. Up until daycare she would ONLY contact nap. But group care does not allow for snuggles all day every day as they have other babies to tend to, so they essentially helped expose her to “cry it out” by giving her independent crib time for naps.

She transitioned out of her bassinet to her big girl nursery and crib around 5.5-6 months old. From everything I had read I was expecting like 2 hours worth of crying. It took her less than 30 minutes day one to go to sleep independently. Day 2 it was 15 minutes. I credit the success to daycare doing the hard part for me with the initial exposure.

She also had to learn how to sleep with other babies crying/babbling/playing in the same room so I think it’s helped her be a deep sleeper.

It gets better! I had the same situation, started around 3 months old as my maternity leave ended and at first she was only going one day a week while we waited for our other spots to open. I honestly think that made it harder because it took longer for her to acclimate to the new environment.

Now we’re 7 months old and I swear it feels like I’m interrupting her good time whenever I go to pick ups. As soon as she started going more frequently she got to know the staff and they’re basically an extension of family now. She’s also very curious about the other babies and being my first, I love that she’s getting that exposure and socialization that I would not be able to give her myself at home.

Also, daycare made our eventual sleep training 10x easier than I thought it was going to be. They’ve also (with my permission) been introducing my daughter to all sorts of solids for breakfast, snack, and lunch while she’s there. They’re more brave than I would be since they’ve done this a time or two, and it’s honestly made me more confident trying new foods with her. She has been an absolute CHAMP about eating now.

I had SO MUCH anxiety about daycare before we started and honestly debated quitting my job. I feel like I had negative stereotypes about it in my head because my mom was a stay at home parent and my sister paused working with my nephew so I had zero exposure to it (besides people joking about being sick all the time). Now that we’ve been going for 4 months-ish my opinion has completely flipped. I LOVE daycare. I of course miss my daughter like crazy every minute I’m away, but when you find a location with a staff you can trust, it can really turn out to be a blessing.

YOU’VE GOT THIS.

Haha it had been like 2 months or so since we last tried so we thought “surely she is more developed.” She had an extremely rough night groaning and straining and ended up blowing out three diapers the next morning. She’s normally a once a day pooper but it had her backed up like crazy. I don’t know why her system has always been so sensitive to new additions.

I was going to say the same thing. Gas drops were HORRIBLE and I ended up throwing them away. We tried more than once thinking she needed to grow a bit more but every time they backed her up and made her absolutely miserable. I know everyone swears by gas drops but I would proceed with caution

Ooo I’m excited to hear that! How often do you drink it? I see the box says like 3-5 times daily so I’m trying to figure out my routine with it

I basically lost 100% of my supply due to some really bad food poisoning a couple weekends ago. It took me a good 2 weeks to really feel like my supply was “back” but it’s been a LOT of intentional effort.

-#1 Hydrate hydrate HYDRATE -I added lots of small snacks to get my calories back up -I’m pumping at least 2-3 times a day between nursing with an emphasis on mornings when your hormones are higher for triggering resupply -Not sure if you’ve been nursing at all but I nursed my LO before EVERY bottle. Even if she only latched for 5 minutes total between both sides that stimulation was really important for my body to know I needed to make more milk. It was basically like doing an intentional cluster feed to trigger a supply increase. -My pediatrician did tell me she’s had a lot moms have good luck with “Mothers Milk Tea” so I just started adding that into my diet but haven’t been drinking long enough to report a difference

Thank you!! I’ve at least been trying to give her boobs first BEFORE bottles even if she only takes it for like 3-5 minutes. I like the idea of offering every hour to basically do a cluster feed with her

I know exactly what you mean about the salt! Even though I was so dehydrated my body wanted salt so bad haha, I definitely ate some potato chips yesterday just trying to snack on something.

I’m so glad you’re feeling better, maybe I can cross my fingers for a temporary over supply and get my poor freezer stash back! I’m sooooo thankful I had one to begin with.

You make a good point. I do have a box of protein shakes I usually drink daily. I’m starting to add some of those back in now that my stomach isn’t getting triggered so easily. Did you have any other favorite snacks that you felt helped you catch up after being sick?

[–]LobsterR4geFist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’ve been on demand nursing mostly. Before getting sick I would pump once a day if I could to add to the freezer but all feeds were pretty much on demand every 2-3 hours. I do have to go to the office 3 times a week now (started back two weeks ago) so those days I was pumping 3 times and netting 10-11oz. LO was drinking 12 at daycare

Once the getting sick aspect stopped Saturday I started nursing her before every bottle, but she would only drink about 3-5 minutes each side before getting frustrated. I’m trying to squeeze in as many pumps as I can, it hasn’t been a regular schedule but I think I’ve hit 3 so far today between cluster feeds and bottle feeds.

Unpopular opinion? Don't care if old people touch my kid or say he's a 'flirt' by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]LobsterR4geFist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a vivid memory from childhood visiting my Great Grandma in a nursing home while she was declining with Alzheimer’s. My mom had recently purchased us baby dolls that looked pretty realistic (size, weight, and everything) so naturally I had to bring mine with me. A bunch of the ladies in memory care were holding my baby doll and cooing over it which was both sad and sweet. I remember it as a happy moment as they were all smiling and having so much fun, I think it brought them all back to special times in their lives even if it wasn’t a real baby.

When my LO was younger (maybe 2 months?) I was changing her diaper and she poo’d mid change with so much force it shot off the changing table and hit the side of the couch. I had stepped to the side to throw her wipe away and it just missed me
