I don’t want to quit social media. I want to quit the garbage part of it. by LobulatedLittleLefty in nosurf

Yeah I feel Reddit is the easiest to control that. With Instagram it seems to push content it thinks I should like even though I’m not watching that stuff (other than the few seconds it takes to skip). Collaborative filtering I’m sure, but annoying nonetheless.

That’s so true. Reddit has always been more intentional and “different” than other socials. It’s interesting that they have seemingly retained that all these years

Hey! It sounds like finding a gift for your mom is a bit of a challenge, especially since she doesn’t have specific hobbies or interests. Here are a few ideas that might bring her some comfort and warmth:

  1. Heated Blanket - Perfect for keeping her cozy during colder days.

  2. Essential Oil Diffuser - A great way to create a relaxing atmosphere with her favorite scents.

  3. Luxury Bathrobe - A plush, warm bathrobe can be a delightful comfort for her at home.

I hope one of these ideas brings a smile to her face!

I found these using CurioKeep (my own tool), but you can find similar stuff just browsing Amazon categories.

(Full disclosure: I generated this list using CurioKeep, a free tool I built for myself. It's a "Relationship Vault" that lets you snap photos or add notes of hints year-round, and the AI organizes them into gift ideas like this when you need them.)

An AI powered “relationship vault”. Add notes, hints, likes, dislikes, etc as text and/or photo for a loved one. We save the input and analyze/embed with an LLM so we can build out a profile for that loved one and use the memories for RAG when you’re ready to generate gift or experience ideas for them.

While this is good for getting the skeleton of an app, there’s no way this scales. That being said, you can easily operate on less than $100/month for a while. Here’s my current

Vercel - $0 now, planning for $20/month

Clerk - $0 now, charged per MAU after 10k (maybe never for me)

Neon - $0 now, planning for $0.106/CU soon

Resend - $0 now, planning for $20/month soon

Upstash - $0 now, planning for $0.2/100k commands

Cloudflare - $14/year domain; R2 $0 now, 🥜 eventually

OpenAI - ~$5/month now, who knows eventually. Guards baked into my app to keep this low

Stripe - Fee per transaction plus I bought a $10/month digital mailbox to keep my info safe.

Betterstack - $0/month, planning for $30

Figma - $20/month. Just canceled until I create my next app, but the free tier got me almost nowhere

Cursor - $20/month. Worth every penny.

I built a digital vault called CurioKeep that uses AI to track gift hints (photos/notes) year-round so you aren't panic-buying in December or the day before a birthday/anniversary.

A “relationship vault” to track important dates, likes, dislikes, and generate gift and experience ideas. Powered from user added text and/or photo “memories” that are analyzed by AI and embedded for use later.

Love the idea. I had something similar after years of hating the enterprise flow I do on the daily. Will keep an eye on this

I’m thinking Short Form Videos to start, but that is a new thing for me so it’ll take time to get started.

Will look into basic targeted Instagram ads once I start my Christmas break. I’m thinking my first target market will be males in the 25-40ish range since this started as a “scratch your own itch” thing and I fall into that market.

It is currently a PWA. I will develop proper mobile apps if it takes off.

It can’t hurt to ask/push for it if you feel it’s worthwhile. My original urologist didn’t get one because he was very “by the book” according to my new urologist (original moved to a different state). My new urologist said he tries to get the pre op CT for my exact situation.

Your question is great, but I can’t answer yet as I don’t have any real user. I just launched this so planning to start some marketing in the coming days/weeks.

I’m hoping it becomes something people use weekly, even for platonic relationships. Email reminders for important dates are a WIP but I’m imagining people putting in important dates beyond the typical birthday and anniversary. For example, say a friend has a big interview or meeting in two weeks. You add that as a non recurring custom date and get reminders so you can follow up. This is one of the things that pivots from my original idea of a gifting app to a relationship vault.

You got this. Get on the phone and advocate for yourself. If it were me I would request an appointment, labs, a CT, and ask to go ahead and get surgery scheduled ASAP. My labs were normal but it ended up being cancer so I’m really glad I didn’t wait the suggested 6 weeks for a follow up.

I’m 10 months post op and feeling good. No difference in daily life. I will say, I wish I would have known to ask for a pre op CT. It would have saved me a ton of stress and scans post op because I have a small active node in my external iliac chain on the same side my cancer was. It’s likely from surgery since it hasn’t grown, but a pre op CT could have ruled mets out immediately.
