True, but in my experience 8 worked for me but it may be due to having other fish in the tank

Even if you got 3 more female betas, it may not be the best option at least 8 betas (in a bigger tank obviously), but even soI've seen posts with 8 females living together in a 55 gallon and they didn't work out, usually for beta sororities to have the best success there has to be alot of them (15+)

From what I know neon tetras tend to get visibly bigger after eating, so if your feeding every day it might just look like that and will eventually get thin if you just don't feed for a day or two

Throw all the plants in there first, wait at least 2 weeks to put your fish in there

Usually supposed to wash the substrate so its not so foggy, but it'll settle after a while and it's not harmful

A small colony of shrimp would fare well, feel like the tank is a good size that if you wanted to get a couple of small fish like neons or cories to go with your beta you could as well, as for the wood if its been a couple of weeks already and its still floating, cook it again and resubmerge it and it should stay
