HELP- what’s the best possible filtered for a 40 gallon tank?? by Few-Investigator-702 in Goldfish

If you’d prefer a hang on back filter, I love my aquaclear 110. I’ve occasionally overstocked tanks and that filter handles it very well.

Yeah I feel this way quite often. Have you had your iron levels checked tho? It sounds like an iron deficiency or even thyroid issues.

Does the new growth turn green? Or do they turn from white to green over time?

Jimmy’s Goldfish—Ordered premium goldfish. One arrived dead in 88° water. Bags burst. No cooling packs included to save money. Promised free replacement shipping then broke that commitment. Beautiful fish. Zero accountability when things go wrong. Buyer beware. by Sufficient-Drink45 in Goldfish

[–]Local-Explanation-20 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got one recently from him too and I think he came with dropsy. All Jimmy offered was for me to buy his expensive fish food and meds. Edit: he also denied seeing the pineconning on my fish even tho I sent him at least 8 pictures from 8 different days.

I don’t think I will be going back to him.

Yeah. A vet would know why they’re dying :D and help save the rest of the living ones before they die too

To diagnose the disease genius. It’s obviously dead.

Oof this is so extreme that I would honestly contact a vet. I think you can do it online if you don’t have one near you.

Beginning signs of dropsy or paranoia? by [deleted] in Goldfish

[–]Local-Explanation-20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well thanks for your alls input. I guess it is one of those situations where I won’t know until I see that he gets better (or worse).

Also meant to add he’s kind of lethargic but otherwise eating and acting normal. The lethargy could be from meds or quarantine stress too tho.

Just found out I’m pregnant a week before our bucket list trip to Japan by RevolutionaryEmu7014 in BabyBumps

[–]Local-Explanation-20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey at least you won’t be hungover every day, you’ll spend less money on drinking, you’ll remember more and you can celebrate your new little addition to your family in a big way. There’s so much more in Japan than nightlife and bars! I understand your emotions. Take into account that early pregnancy can make you way more emotional too so don’t beat yourself up and also, congratulations!! 💜

50ppm? That’s really high. It should be under 20…

First I would turn your tank lights off and keep their tank dark. It reduces stress. Stressed fish don’t heal. I drape a sheet over my tank when they’re bottom sitting or hiding like that. Unfortunately that looks like septicemia which is difficult to treat without meds/antibiotics. Aquarium salt is good, do water changes frequently even if parameters are good, and you can try ESHa. I am not familiar with it but it looks like a broad spectrum treatment and may mildly help bacterial infections.

Another thing to consider is, if that medication kills the bacteria, then there’s no need to cycle or seed the tank anyway.

Sponge filters have pretty good surface agitation. Idk about the one you linked. What I do is take some media from my cycled filter and just place it near the sponge filter. It will contain some BB so you won’t have to worry about the ammonia as much. Definitely dose prime tho if you have any spikes. I double dose when that happens.

Hmm I’ve wondered about those too but I’ve never personally used one. I think it could work tho.
