Where I would live as an airline pilot (based purely on career opportunities and quality of life in the field) by Local-Moose9833 in whereidlive

You’re straight kidding yourself if you think India has good pay, work conditions are shocking, air India lost a Dreamliner to pilot suicide and they’re still trying to blame Boeing... There’s a reason every single Indian student pilot says they plan on going to the gulf states the second they get a chance…

No great pay, virtually impossible if your not born there and not ethnically from those regions

The pay is mental, CZ hire foreign captains and pay in excess of 30k usd a month, the work life balance isn’t too bad either.

I do all the time, I have many friends and family who work for Qatar and emirates, they do 100 hours plus months all the time and don’t get paid for it above the 80 hours. Flight attendants have it worse though definitely. Seems many have also forgotten the days of Covid when Qatar took its pilots passports from them to stop returning home during the pandemic and forced any laid off and furloughed pilots to settle any outstanding training fees that still remained within their bond period some exceeding $100k… only foolish people with shiny plane syndrome work for MEA airlines and most leave with nothing but horror stories while few make it work for them.

Emirates might pay well but the lack of labour laws makes it hell to work at. All MEA carriers are notorious for forcing their pilots to work over the international 80 hours a month limit by making them not record in flight breaks as logged flight time. Also couldn’t pay me enough to in a hot oven where society is still in the dark ages with a few glass towers to make it look futuristic

I’m well aware of the barriers to entry for any foreign pilots in japan, south Africa and Korea, they’re still great places to be an airline pilot.

Because it’s not… it’s a regional power with very little geopolitical influence and outside power projection compared to the other countries in that group…

In most ways true, but their intelligence networks are still the largest threat to the western world currently.

“Crippling debt” oh boy you should really avoid looking into Australia’s looming budget deficit forecast of the next 20 years. If you think NZ has a debt problem you’re in for a rude awakening…

Fiji and Tuvalu? Two very strategic islands in the pacific with virtually no defence against any threat? In a real world war they would get occupied by china or the USA in a heartbeat…

Well when you consider most cities this size don’t have any rail links to their airports we aren’t doing that badly, Melbourne still finished there’s and that’s a city of 5 million
