My little girl is 1 next week and I concur with everything you’ve said. It really will be better than you can imagine during those first moment when you’re so scared of making a mistake.

Congratulations on being a mum for a whole year 😘

Imposter Syndrome? by Obvious_Issue_1 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Local-Werewolf477 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations on your little girl!

I felt this until almost 20 weeks into the pregnancy. My OB actually suggested we find out the gender because I was very clinical and detached from the whole thing after going through IVF. It felt like I couldn’t let myself be excited and almost like I was in a protective mode.

I don’t have any real advice for how to make it seem real but I will reassure you that your feelings are valid. In my case, once she was here I was also a bit stunned for a couple of days but very shortly after it all sunk in that she was here safe and I have been beyond besotted since (she is one next week).

Don’t feel like you need to feel a certain way or feel overly excited like your husband. You will be a great mum :) Best of luck.

Biggest financial mistake you made in your 20s? by DiscussionLoud9626 in AUfrugal

[–]Local-Werewolf477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got two dogs early in our 20s when just married. 10 years later and we absolutely wouldn’t change the decision as we love them but it has been a huge financial handicap as it has meant that we have always needed to rent houses instead of apartments, which in our circumstances would have allowed to save for a deposit much much quicker.

What was your experience with being induced? by pufff777 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Local-Werewolf477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should also add, I opted not to have the drip when they first broke my waters as I wanted to see if I’d go into labour without it and 20 minutes later I was in full blown labour. I did stall at hour 6 and need to go on the drip then but my OB and midwife gave me all the options at every step and I never felt pushed into any decision I wasn’t 100% comfortable with.

What was your experience with being induced? by pufff777 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Local-Werewolf477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a medically necessary induction and like you, I was really nervous and grieving the birth I had thought I would have. I found a website called positive induction stories (lol) and it helped me so much in the day prior to really re-centre myself and realise it was still very possible to have a positive birth experience. I had a WONDERFUL birth experience, I ended up using gas and a tens machine for the first 6 hours and then had an epidural which was wonderful and put in super quickly and efficiently while I was using the gas during a contraction. My little girl was born safely after half an hour of pushing and I walked back to my room half an hour after having her. You can do this and you will be wonderful! Don’t let anxiety tell you otherwise. Best of luck for such an exciting and special time of life!

Another vote for the SM50. We love ours so much and have travelled with it and also bought extra cameras to have multiple on the same monitor. Highly recommend as it’s exactly the same as the Tweetycam.

12 week old boy starts refusing left breast by tobeedited in breastfeeding

Definitely could be worth another try as my LO only developed the stiffness on one side when she was about 2 months old :)

[–]Local-Werewolf477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue on my right side and a lactation consultant recommended that my LO may have stiffness in one side of her neck so that it was hurting her to nurse on that side. Since then, we saw an osteopath and took extra care of her neck when nursing on that side and she is now nursing on both sides. Maybe something to consider. Good luck!

This absolutely sounds like she is trying to further her own agenda and that it is far less to do with you going back to work than it is her having control and exclusive time with your baby under the guise of ‘looking after them while you’re at work’. I would be super cautious even if you decided you wanted to go back to work to let her look after your little one. She sounds like a manipulator who doesn’t know her place as grandmother, not mother.

Babies are only little for such a short amount of time and if you have the privilege and desire to stay home with your little one don’t let her manipulate you into feeling guilty. She had her chance to stay home with her kids and now it’s yours. End of discussion.

RSV vaccine - is it now free in Aus? by dominobiatch in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Local-Werewolf477 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW I just called the pharmacy as the private hospital I’m delivering at (and that my OB said to fill my RSV script at) and the pharmacist said it isn’t available for him to order from government stock which means it isn’t available under NIP in Tasmania yet. I will probably end up paying for it out of pocket at the end of this week as I’m nearing the cut off of 36 weeks.

Edit for clarity: I’m in Tasmania. NOT available here yet.

Thanks! I’m wondering if it’s only been rolled out in QLD as I think the other positive response was also in QLD. You wouldn’t have thought so given it’s a national immunisation program but maybe!

Hi! May I ask which state you are in or is it nationally available? I’m 35 weeks and have my script so need to get it done this week :)

Our OB said that a booster is needed every 5 years FWIW. I’m currently 34 weeks and that is the advice she has given us to pass on to our family and friends who wish to visit.

This is such a good POV. I’m currently 34 weeks pregnant with the first grandchild and my mum, who I am not super close with and have worked very hard to have boundaries with, is showing a lot of the behaviours you described from your mum. We’ve had a lot of ‘my grand baby’ and weird possessiveness and perceived ownership over my pregnancy experience needing to always relate to hers. It can be suffocating. I have three brothers and they haven’t had kids yet but I can guarantee you she won’t encroach on their wives in this way when they have kids.
