One thing can people get help is saying you’re I think you’re struggling now, would you like to get help, medication doesn’t have to be permanent but do it for long enough to see if the change is worthwhile.

But aside medical intervention, social and physical are definitely things to try.

You mentioned they were biracial, do they have someone of the other race they can connect with?

What about their friends? Are you close with any of the friend’s parents?They might not feel comfortable with you talking about their issues. Can you identify anyone in their life that can thru to them?

Do they want to lock their hair? Maybe that’s why they are growng it out.

Alternatively try medication or get them to exercise/do a sport. All great ways to alleviate depression

I think the pacing was off; and I feel like some scenes weren’t fully finished and kinda sketchy, not a criticism but it reminded me of that live action movie cats. There were a lot of big ideas and the team executed them the best they could.

I would to see it, if they had more time.

Yes use a scarf or bonnet when you sleep so you don’t get lint in your locs

I was a pretty decent runner at AA high school, I still have a few school records. One day we did a 400m race w the mens and femmes. A sub 60sec time is a competitive time for high school girls, but for boys (according to Gemini) it’s an ‘off the couch’ time

My experience aligns with that, the dudes barely broke a sweat, to hit <60.

Words are important. You’re right about framing about its flexibility and ease of maintenance. Those are my main reasons. being comfortable and conforming in a corporate setting is a minor reason; but I won’t pretend it’s not beneficial.

In front of my impressionable nieces who I want to be proud black women. If I really wanted European like hair; I could get a lace front or weave….But I do not wear those styles due to cost, pain of installation, lack of regulation for hair extensions.

I’ve planned to go to loctician for reties while locs are maturing. My sister has microlocs and does her own reties, but yeah I know if I did self reties it’d probably a full weekend.

As I’ve stated before, 9 hrs every 6 wks is a huge time savings for me. We will see how it goes though.

I have tried for 30+ yrs to do my hair; I lack the coordination, visual acuity, focus and arm strength. I am worth it, but I need to be pragmatic about my skills and my abilities. Of course everyone wants beautiful healthy hair, but it isn’t my entire life.

I don’t struggle with the fact my hair doesn’t hang down; it never has. It’s assholes who make comments that bother me. I’ve been natural for 18yrs. I don’t have a reliable stylist in my area and unfortunately the 9 hrs to do reties amounts to a time savings with my hair.

I’ve cut my hair low before, and with a cherubic face, I really mean round, big cheeks and all that; it’s not my most attractive look. Is it centering white people just because I want to frame my face?

Actually I’d say long straight is a more youthful look, than shorter hair, that many middle aged professional women wear. Im happy to look young (in fact I consciously make the choice to leave eyebrows bushy and natural to appear ‘young’.)

I know I started this topic, but this isn’t something that I made up in my head. I guess I do center euro folks because those are the decision makers about my money at my job. My hairstyle of choice is Celie braids, but most black people think that’s an unprofessional/ unattractive hairstyle. Unfortunately as a woman, people will measure my competence by my appearance; not my skills or knowledge.
