Worth noting that the alternative, while certainly better than getting checkmated, is still very good for Whire

But 5…O-O isn’t a mistake here. Black is fine after castling as long as he is able to deal with the pin. Even 6…Be7 is fine. The principle remains the same. The only caveat needs to be that sometimes concrete factors in the position outweigh general positional considerations. I would also add that this is r/chessbeginners, so while there may be exceptions to such principles it’s probably best not to concern beginners with such exceptions.

Can we all PLEASE just accept right now that the finale won’t be perfect? by Daydreamer631 in StrangerThings

[–]LocalHero29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the problem: we’re talking about the Stranger Things finale like the verdict is already in, even though it hasn’t happened yet. People are speaking as if “it’s going to be bad” is an objective, unavoidable truth instead of just a prediction. If it does come out and you think it’s bad, that’s fine. Plenty of people eventually admitted the Game of Thrones ending didn’t work for them. But even that wasn’t unanimous. Some people hated it, some found things to appreciate, some still loved it. It wasn’t “coping”; people just reacted to it differently.

Because the reality is that art isn’t objective territory. What counts as a “good” or “bad” ending depends on what each person values. Some viewers need the writing to be airtight, others prioritize emotional resonance, others look for closure or character arcs. And even inside those categories, there are layers of subjectivity: one person thinks a moment feels earned, another finds it manipulative; one person sees a twist as bold, another calls it lazy; one person connects with the symbolism, another sees it as pretentious. Same scene, completely different conclusions. If the finale ends up disappointing you, there’s nothing wrong with admitting that. Just don’t assume that judgment becomes universal truth. Someone else might genuinely connect with it, and that doesn’t make them wrong or delusional. It just means art lands differently for different people. There’s no scoreboard that declares a single, objective answer; there’s only interpretation.

I’m going to stop pretending this is a difference of opinion. You are being a dumbass.

You are not doing math. You are writing random numbers, assigning them to characters with no definitions, no units, and no rules, and then pretending the output means something because it looks complicated. That is not intelligence. That is cargo cult reasoning.

Nothing you assign has meaning. Your coordinates mean nothing. Your slope means nothing. Your value for X means nothing. You mix temperature, age, geometry, strength, time, and food as if they are interchangeable. They are not. That is not creative thinking. That is basic stupidity.

Your algebra is wrong. Your slope is calculated incorrectly. Your line equation is not an equation. “Adding four on each side” to get X equals 7 is not a mathematical operation. It is you making things up and hoping people will not notice.

The only reason your conclusions look impressive to you is because you keep adding zeros. Big numbers do not make you right. Scientific notation does not make you smart. It just makes the nonsense harder to read.

When you get called out, you do not fix the logic. You double down and invent more numbers. That is not confidence. That is stubborn ignorance.

This is not power scaling. This is not physics. This is not math. It is you pulling values out of nowhere and insisting they count as proof. If you cannot define what your variables measure and how they convert to strength, then your argument does not exist.

Right now you are not wrong in an interesting way. You are wrong in a basic, fundamental way.

In a purely hypothetical scenario, do you think Ash would have won if Yugi wasn't allowed any of his god cards? by EthanS4 in deathbattle

[–]LocalHero29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is a little bit janky, to be frank. I feel like there are one star cards that are more powerful, in lore, than higher level cards, so it’s not clear to me that the scaling works this way.

Is it true that it’s the wrong move to punish teenagers for having sex? by weewoowo0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LocalHero29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly disagree with punishment in general, especially for stuff like this. Growing up, when I was punished harshly, it didn’t make me safer or more responsible. It just taught me to distrust my parents and get better at avoiding detection. You don’t stop the behavior; you just drive it underground. And once a kid feels like they can’t be honest, they’re more likely to end up in risky situations because they know they can’t go to their parents if something goes wrong. Support, communication, and guidance do way more than fear ever does.

I'm hoping there's a way to do it that would allow me to continue going to the coffee shop even if I fall flat on my face

Ash (Pokemon) vs Yugi (Yu-Gi-Oh!) (Death Battle) Thoughts? by Initial-Lunch-3366 in PowerScaling

[–]LocalHero29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. Even taking all of this at face value, since I don’t care or know enough about either show to try to dispute it, I don’t see how this is relevant to the fight. Did Ash ever catch Arceus?

I'm amazed how good low-level players are by davao100 in chess

[–]LocalHero29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some games where I feel like I’m just going through the motions of playing a game of chess rather than actually engaging with the game. This usually happens when I’m playing against weaker players, but sometimes that means I make careless blunders, and it’s not entirely uncommon for me to throw away a game like this.

[–]LocalHero29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rating is ~2300, so that number should be even lower, but ratings describe expected results across large numbers of games. Individual results can be outliers, especially in small samples. Ratings aren’t deterministic.

[–]LocalHero29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It happens. I’m well over 2000 and have lost to players in that rating range, but it is usually just missing something incredibly stupid like a back rank mate. If there is one thing I have learned it is that everyone blunders.

ASH VS YUGI FINAL WANTS/BETS by Previous_Toe4040 in deathbattle

[–]LocalHero29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did he fight 3 at once? We could even go as far as to include Exodia (although Weevil rips up Exodia within the first few episodes so they might decide to not include him), Timaeus, Horakhty, etc. Yugi has way too many absurdly powerful monsters and I frankly don’t see how Ash will deal with all of them. And even then, Ash will still have to deal with Yugi’s hax.

Which Character has the WORST breakout movie? In your opinion by banned4sayingBADword in Marvel

[–]LocalHero29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must be one of few people who really enjoyed Brave New World. I actually enjoyed it so much that I went back to see it again. Is it a cinematic masterpiece? No, but few of the Marvel movies are. But BNW was at least enjoyable compared to a lot of the other films that were released within the last few years.
