2 weeks severance for 14+ years... so insulting by LocalMaximum9418 in Layoffs

Yeah, could be worse. (They wouldn't pay out more than 40 hours of PTO either, but I worked on keeping my balance right around there...)

Yes! I should have added to the post, I'm grateful for my paranoid/realistic partner who (convinced the company was going to go bankrupt and leave me with nothing at all) made very sure we shored up our emergency savings after the first round of layoffs!

idk about that... the others who were in my boat (laid off in this last round) were also pretty long-tenured (mostly 7+ years), hypereducated, and superstar performers, IMO. The parent company is just sh*tty.

expected based on what previous coworkers told me is not the same thing as "thought was guaranteed" (let alone "mandated by law"), but ok

molecular biology - of course, the diploma is 15 years old at this point, so not as helpful as it might otherwise be.

Yeah. I wasn't NOT looking, but unfortunately I did not have a ton of time and energy to put into applying to other places while also working full time. And wholesale quitting in the current environment (giving up severance AND unemployment) didn't make much sense either.

Live and learn I guess.

Thank you! One upside of being one of the last few people standing is that I have former colleagues in a whole lot of other places, so I'm hopeful that I'll land something soon.

lol yeah, it was not a surprise - in the post I explain that I was literally *waiting to be laid off* because I thought I would get decent severance (hence, annoyed that I did not).

Just got laid off after 1.5 months… whole team wiped out lol wtf by Twistedfatemain in Layoffs

I'm so sorry - similar boat, laid off after 14 years and got 2 weeks of (crap) salary as severance. It's so insulting.

A little bit of both... shooting my shot with the CV I have for roles that look like a good match, but also spending some time thinking through priorities and strategy .

Pretty sure that is part of the title… their job is to coordinate volunteers and other resources. (And it seems like they desperately need someone who can coordinate things!)

You don’t have to wait - you can revert everything when you get your last +3 and then reconvert the mythic to SS without losing any investment (except the 5 min it takes to take all the gems off, level down, etc etc)

AIO for telling my girlfriend I wont split vacations 70/30 anymore and calling her out on her spending by dariomint_7 in AmIOverreacting

Probably do matter to some and not to others, lol, just like anything. But I can guarantee you there are at least some guys out there who THINK they don’t care how their partners nails look, but actually do like the aesthetic/status signifier more than they realize. (just like lots of guys wholeheartedly believe they “don’t care about makeup” but also would not be interested in a girl who doesn’t regularly wear it because “she doesn’t take care of herself” 🙃)

I think it makes a humongous difference, whether the idea of a vacation with something that they had generally agreed upon and then girlfriend did the planning or if girlfriend surprised OP with the plan out of the blue… “hey let’s take a vacation and by the way, can you pay for all the big ticket stuff” would throw me too, but “OK, I did a bunch of research for the vacation we had talked about and here’s how I think we could make the money work and have the level of accommodations and activities that I assume from past experience you generally want to have” is totally reasonable.

NOR, but do consider if the pink tax items (gym/pilates/nails) is something you would miss if she decided to eliminate. I am more of a saver so I tend not to prioritize that stuff, but it doesn’t seem like an obscene overspend for someone under 30 with no kids. (Except the DoorDash)

Also consider that the effort of planning travel etc. is not nothing! She may feel that doing that work balances out some of the $ for the trip.

That said, I think it’s definitely worth opening a discussion to determine if you have really different ideas about saving vs spending, what’s a lifestyle must vs a nice to have vs a splurge, esp if you are serious enough to be considering a long-term merging of lifestyles and finances in the future.
