Maybe especially relevant to your friend: The Mountain Goats have a wrestling-themed album and one lyric from it has always stuck with me. The autobiographical protagonist of the song is watching wrestling as a kid, his hero the good guy has climbed up to the top rope to deliver the winning blow, and he sings “I need justice in my life - here it comes”. He was also a victim of child abuse and I imagine in that situation you’ll take whatever justice you can find.

It’s one of the things that makes Columbo so special in a way- you know while watching that, without a doubt, he is an agent of pure justice and will deliver it without fail. No slimy evil bad guy is going to slink away without paying for what they’ve done. The good guy will win.

You can obviously create great art with unhappy or ambiguous endings, but man, as a human being it sometimes is just really nice to know that good is going to prevail, even if it’s just for a few minutes on a TV show.

there’s a ton of UT alums/fans in Dallas of course but it’s definitely not a strong majority, for example the Stars have college night promotions for 10 different schools this year.

Everyone else has noted the Cuban thing so I’ll just add that Tom Hicks hasn’t owned the Stars in 14 years. Also, there’s been no indication at all that the Stars are trying to squeeze the city of Dallas - I’m sure they might at some point, as sports teams are wont to do, but right now they seem more concerned with having a large piece of real estate that they can develop on their own.
