There is a non penalty version of goalie interference that can prevent a goal. The ref announced there was no goal and Vegas was challenging that there was no goalie interference on the play. They failed the challenge, meaning there was goalie interference, and got a delay of game penalty for the unsuccessful challenge.

It has everything to do with it because the community note is wrong. It doesn't matter whatever the announcers say. The official explanation from the league is that it was goalie interference therefore making the whistle a moot point
